Up for sale, a 1970 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original trolley and cover. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original 15 Eminence ceramic magnet speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol 6L6GC power tubes. Notable for the addition of Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel not found on earlier iterations, this B-15N has surprising output given its modest power and excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. The original transformers are both present, and the preamp is virtually untouched, with original CTS pots and visible date codes from the 21st week of 1970. Along with the Tung Sol 6L6 power tubs, the amp features a combination of modern and vintage octal preamp tubes as well as a vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier. The stock Eminence speaker has a clean frame and date code from the 13th week of 1970. The cabinet retains the original smooth black tolex, silver sparkle grillcloth, and Ampeg badge. The faceplate retains virtually all of the original blue pinstriping, along with a full compliment of original knobs. Wear on the cabinet is limited to minor scuffs and light edge wear, and all original hardware is included and viable including the shockmounts for the head and original latches. As the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. The original screw-on trolley is included, along with the original cover (not pictured). Up for sale, a 1960 Ampeg Guitaramp 518 Dolphin Special vintage tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Not to be confused with the numerous “Jet” reissues offered by Ampeg over the decades, this is a genuine original model 518 with early and rare “Navy Random Flair” tolex only used on the first few years of production. The tone is extremely dynamic and sensitive to your pick attack, and while the amp can deliver a slightly scooped clean tone at low volumes, this Ampeg has an incredible amount of gain on tap with an abundance of rich, warm, bold tones at hand. At around 4 on the volume dial the amp starts to sizzle and roar with a compressed churn, and the tone control is particularly responsive for thickening or thinning out the sound as necessary. It’s an ideal recording amp with a surprising amount of volume via a vintage alnico Ampro Deluxe 12 speaker. The circuit remains very original, having been freshly serviced in-house here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and recapped as necessary to ensure optimal performance. The original transformers are intact, and the amp has been fitted with a new three-prong power cable. The tube compliment includes a pair of new, freshly biased Tung Sol 5881 (6L6) power tubes, with vintage Sylvania and General Electric-branded valves for the preamp and rectifier. The vintage Ampro Deluxe speaker has a very clean frame with original foil label on the bell cover, and the speaker has been freshly reconed. Visible inside the cabinet, the tube chart is also fully intact with a serial number from 1960. Cosmetically, this amp is clean for an enclosure pushing 60, with original Navy Random Flair tolex (deep blue with silver sparkles), silver sparkle grill cloth, and new leather handle. The tolex is completely intact, with light peeling at the seams, and aging in the grillcloth. On the chrome faceplate, most of the original white silkscreen lettering is intact and the chrome plating shows light patina. The full compliment of original knobs is present too. Up for sale, a 1963 Ampeg B-15N “Flip-Top” Portaflex tube amplifier in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This exceedingly clean B-15N is a very early example with gleaming chrome, blue diamond tolex, the original full set of matched Ampeg-branded tubes, original Jensen EM1501 speaker, rare tilt-back rod, and original trolley. As the amp that defined the Motown bass sound and a must-have for studios worldwide, the B-15N is the undisputed king of vintage bass tone, with a thick, thumpy sound that is round, detailed, and versatile, bringing out the best in your instrument’s natural tonal characteristics. The two channels each have a unique voice, with Channel One being a bit more mellow and smooth, while Channel Two has a touch more grit and bite, also making it an excellent choice for guitar (diming this channel out delivers a particularly nice overdriven roar with a humbucker or P-90 equipped instrument). Just given a checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this B-15N is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit features all of the original capacitors, untouched solder joints, and CTS pots which date to the 18th week of 1962. The stock transformers are present, and the serial number sticker inside the cabinet dates to February of 1963. The original multi-pin connection between the head and cab is intact, as is the original two-prong power cable. This ceramic driver sound clear and powerful, keeping low frequencies rich and focused. The original tit-back rod is secured inside the cabinet, a feature only seen on the B-15N until 1964. Cosmetically, this amp is the nicest early B-15N we’ve ever had in the shop, with flawless silkscreen text on a near mint chrome-plated chassis. The stock latches are still mounted to the original tray, and the head features four new shockmounts between the head and tray. All of the original hardware is present including the light up lucite “Ampeg” logo (with a custom Ampeg-factory inscription ostensibly for the original owner) and all of the original knobs. The trolley is original as well. The blue diamond tolex is original and exceedingly clean with some wear on the trolley tolex but only a few minor scuffs on the speaker enclosure edges. Up for sale, a 1971 Ampeg SVT tube bass amplifier head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Ampeg debuted the Super Vacuum Tube “SVT” amplifier in the summer of 69 at the Chicago N. This amp was a milestone design, utilizing 300 watts of all-tube power specifically geared for larger venues, cementing its place in the live world as the defacto standard backline stage rig. An original Linden, New Jersey made example with blue line cosmetics, this SVT has been serviced and maintained to play its best, with rich, authoritative, articulate low end, ample warmth, and distinctly smooth Ampeg tone. This SVT boasts a new matched sextet of 6550 JJ power tubes and has been serviced as needed, with a full recap of the power supply, as well as a hard-wired three-prong power cable and 1/4 speaker cable. A fan has been mounted too, ensuring the amp doesn’t overheat with the incredible voltage of the six power tubes. The Electrical Windings Company power transformer and filament transformer have matching date codes that read the 12th week of 1971, and the original output transformer is intact as well. The original CTS pot codes date to the 51st week of 1970. Cosmetically, this amp is in great shape with original smooth black tolex and original grill cloth. The grill cloth has aged uniformly, and the tolex is in very good condition overall with some light wear around the edges and on the bottom of the enclosure. The faceplate is very clean, retaining all of the original knobs and the distinct blue line screen print graphics. A padded flight case is included. Hi and thanks for clicking. This is a very nice old Ampeg 1×15 Portaflex Tube Amp USA Made in 1965. It shows cosmetic signs of wear and tear but still sounds fantastic. Everything is original on this amp except for two of the tubes. This amp is loud and sounds great. The speaker is still strong with a nice tight bottom.
