Up for sale, a 1960 Gibson GA-80T Vari-Tone tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early example of one of Gibson’s rarest amps with date codes spanning late 1959 and very early’60, the GA-80T was produced only from 1959-61 and only roughly 600 were produced total across all three years. A true tonal powerhouse with a preamp that boasts a pair of the revered 5879 pentode tubes, this amp is particularly rich, detailed, and dynamic sounding. Essentially the 5879 is a more stable and less microphonic version of the EF86, and paired with a 6L6 output section and Jensen P15P alnico speaker, the tone can be glassy or gritty, chiming or guttural with the twist of a knob. Of course at the heart of the circuit is the six position push-button Vari-Tone circuit, which lifts the same sweet, scooped, and distinct tones found in the ES-345 and 355 of the era. Activating a Varitone setting disengages the pedestrian Tone knob and the way this tone circuit shapes the sound of the guitar is truly astounding. Many of these settings really highlight Chicken Pickin’, with a musical twang and quack, and the often robust and unique nature of these tones really makes the Varitone settings stand out in a mix. The Tremolo is also one of the most pronounced and throbbing circuits we’ve ever heard on a vintage tube amp. The pulse of the trem is strong without being too choppy, and for an effect that essentially is just volume modulation, it really has a three-dimensional quality. The circuit has just been throughly serviced and recapped, and both original transformers are intact. A three-prong power cord has been installed, and the amp has in short been meticulously gone through to retain the integrity and power of this circuit. The original CentraLab pots date to the 20th week of 1960, while the date stamp on the speaker frame is from the 52nd week of 1959. The speaker has as particularly clean frame and original foil label on the magnet bell, and the speaker has just been professionally reconed. Cosmetically, the original tweed and oxblood grillcloth are both intact, with a minty and stock raised “Gibson” logo on the face of the amp. The tweed does show some modest staining and its fair share of scuffs, but overall is remarkably intact (always a rarer feat the larger the tweed amp). All of the stock knobs are present, including the chicken head knobs for Volume and Tone and the dark burgundy caps for the Vari-Tone push-button controls. Some of the original black silkscreen lettering is present on the faceplate as well which has plenty of sheen on the chrome plating. Other original features the original brown rubber feet and the original luggage-style handle with matching “Gibson” logo and tweed material in a lucite frame. The original wooden wedge footswitch is included to activate the Tremolo. Cool old Gibson Discoverer Tremolo GA-8T amplifier. I had my amp tech go through and replace the caps. Otherwise all all original – has the original 1961 Jensen speaker in it. Also some of the tubes may not be original as this is an older amp. Has the original built in footswitch. Power cable appears to be the original one. Working well, Great sounding amp. Tremolo working well, footswitch working – the only issue noticed is that when you use the footswtich to. Turn off the tremolo it does not go all the way off, it just lowers the tremolo effect. This 1959 Gibson GA-18 Exploer AMp is trulyin museum mint condition. It works exactly as it should and comes with all original parts. The tweed is still in excellent condition and the soft laquer is all intact showing very little signs of fading or dis-coloration. The chrome is shiny and devoid of rust or pitting. Gibson GA-18 Explorer 1959 Vintage Tweed Tube Amp Guitar Amplifier Original. This was a 80 year old friend of mines amp he bought it new when he passed away it was given to me its got the period correct guitar cord with it and the 1 button foot peddle, only thing with this is the cord to the peddle is brittle needs to be replaced the power cord is fine not sure if it was ever replaced its black and the foot peddle cord is brown. All the emblems are nice and handel for carrying is perfect no damage at all the tweed is in great shape and outer box is as well has a couple scrapes on bottom corner right and left has all 4 little chrom feet it sits on its got the original components the top where the knobs are is a little worn but you can still make out the name EXPLORER AND VOL AND SUCH ARE WORN FROM TURNING thats the only thing i can see thats used looking. 1965 or 66 GA5T Gibson. If you look up GA5t amps you will be amazed at how many models they made with this same model name. This is my favorite of the three different models I’ve had. It has treble and bass controls as well as speed and depth of the tremolo. The front and sides are in good shape, the back and bottom not so much. Everything works, and it has a (non original) footswitch and a good tremolo. It has the original handle in decent condition (not in danger of breaking as far as I can tell). Super Rare Vintage late 60′s all tube 50 watt Gibson Ranger amplifier. Amplifier was originally a combo amp with four 10 speakers. Previous owner had it customized in to a head & 2X12 speaker cabinet. Was then wrapped in a vintage style western brown tolex. Matching cabinet was loaded with two brand new 12 Celestion Rocket 50 speakers to keep with the vintage, clean tone. Amplifier was completely gone over, and some tubes were replaced by a local electronics shop. Still has the original 2 prong power cord, no buzzes, and no hum. This is a two channel amp, channel 2 is the tremolo & reverb channel, reverb has been completely removed, so now channel 2 is the tremolo channel only.
