Overall excellent condition especially for being a 60-Year-old amp. One of the finest ones out there. Includes Original Cover, Power Cable, and Footswitch’s. Looks, Works, and Sounds Amazing. The tone is warm and it kicks when pushed, add the lush vibrato and you’ll be in a dream state. The Magnatone Estey M10 “suitcase amp” is a mid-1960s vintage tube amplifier known for its signature pitch-shifting vibrato effect, driven by a varistor circuit, a big round clean tone, and a thick overdrive when pushed. Part of Magnatone’s “Suitcase” series, these amps featured a portable design and a two-channel configuration with a spring reverb and controls for volume, tone, and vibrato speed. Up for sale, a 1957 Magnatone Custom 213 Troubadour in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original wooden “doorstop” footswitch and full vintage tube set from the likes of Amperex and RCA. An early example of this Troubadour model, the Custom 213 is fresh back from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with a clean bill of health. One of the cooler and less common mid-size Magna Electric-era Magnatone amps, the 213 boasts a single 12 alnico Oxford speaker, delivering 18 all tube watts. Whether you seek round, sparkling cleans or surprisingly thick overdrive, this Magnatone easily supplies a range of dynamic tube-driven textures. Of course one of the main draws of any Magnatone is the true pitch vibrato, and with a width and warble unequalled in tube amp design, this vibrato circuit is in a word lush. The point-to-point circuit boasts the original transformers (Thordarson power transformer, no definitive markings on the presumably Triad or Schumacher-made riveted-mounted output transformer), and the preamp retains many of the original signal caps with a few high quality tubular Jupiter “dynamite” caps used where needed. The original CTS pots are all intact, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. There is a small silver plug central to the faceplate (renaming the “Troubadour” to the Troubado) from a removed aftermarket mod. Tubes include Amperex and Thomas-branded valves in the preamp, with a pair of well-matched 6V6 power tubes and a coke bottle 5V4 rectifier. The original Oxford 12KR alnico magnet speaker has a very clean frame, with a bold date stamp from the 25th week of’57. The original model sticker is intact in the cabinet too. The original smooth brown leatherette covering is intact and incredibly clean, along with the wheat grillcloth and unique back panel, also with original grillcloth. The faceplate is in wonderful shape, complete with all of the original knobs. The leather handle is a modern replacement. This amp is fully serviced and ready to be played, complete with the original large wooden “doorstop” footswitch to engage the vibrato.

Just in at Tone Chasers Music is this 1964 Magnatone M14. This amplifier is in very good condition with the pictured slight snags in the grill and scuffs in the plastic being the most significant signs of wear.

Virtually identical to the 260 model, this Estey-era Magnatone was rebranded as the 262 Jupiter for the accordion market who were a large part of Magnatone’s client base in their heyday. The amp features an ostensibly original set of all vintage tubes, with a matched 6L6 General Electric power tube pair, as well as a 2×12 speaker configuration with original Oxfords and lush pitch shifting vibrato. This Magnatone features two channels with individual Volume and EQ controls as well as two-way Tone toggles for each channel. Driven by the aforementioned GE 6L6 power tube pair, the amp has a rich, lush sound capable of delivering both articulate cleans and overdriven roar when pushed hard. Of course at the heart of any Magnatone is their varistor-based true pitch shifting vibrato circuit, which is thick and watery, with a Leslie-esque swirl and unequalled dimension. As a top of the line Magnatone amplifier, the 262 Jupiter has a complex true point-to-point hand-wired circuit which is 100% original save for a couple new resistors and a single capacitor, fully vetted by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. The circuit retains all of the original blue Ajax molded caps in the preamp and CTS pots that date to the 21st week of 1962. The original Schumacher transformers are intact, dating between late 1961 and early 1962. The GE 6L6 power tubes are properly biased and sound exquisite, paired with a Sylvania rectifier and preamp tubes from the likes of Telefunken and GE, all with nigh flawless silkscreen text on the glass. The amp retains its original pair of alnico magnet Oxford 12K5 12 drivers with very clean frames and original cones. The date stamps on the frames are from the 22nd week of 1962, matching closely with the pots and transformers. The original brown bindery cloth covering is exceedingly clean, especially notable on a Magnatone given the fragility of this material when compared to Fender’s tolex. There is very light edge wear, mostly relegated to the bottom 20% of the enclosure, and the original grillcloth is intact too with gold sparkle thread and the original Estey badge in the lower right corner of the baffle. The faceplate is quite well kept, with clean silkscreened graphics and all of the original barrel knobs. The amp comes complete with its original wooden wedge footswitch to engage the vibrato, as well as the original two-sided large Magnatone hangtag. The amp is fully functional, the only issue is the water stain you see pictured. I found it stuffed away in a closet at an estate sale years ago and have played and enjoyed it but the music room is simply getting a bit crowded these days. Here we have a very, very rare and wanted Amp. I think this one is an early one maybe 1957? Not totally sure of the year. This 213 Model was made between 57 and 62. Its in very very nice conditon. Tolex is in nice shape with some spots that look like maybe they almost caught the cigarette in time, lol. NO rips in either grill cloth. This amp was just gone through professionally. Replaced three tubes and these items were done Full cap job, Special order rare cap, Undate filters, bias cap, node resistors, plate load resistors. Like I said one hundred percent and ready to go. This amp is sixty years old and a piece of working history. But due to it being vintage, still a final sale. Again working 100 percent, sounds great and I had my professional do EVERYTHING he felt it needed. I would love to keep it. But have to pass it on. I would put it up against anything in that era, and it is rarer as well! I will make every attempt at pointing everything out that I can. NO renegociation of price will occur after the sale.
