15 watts, all tube. Two 6V6 power tubes and two 12AX7′s in the preamp. The first and only Marshall to use 6V6′s. Built-in attenuator: 25 watt, 10 ohm, wire-wound power resistor. The “speaker emulator” [one user's term] is “nice for headphone use or for recording use”. The first and only Marshall amp to include a built-in attenuator. Balanced direct XLR Out – the only guitar amp in the brochure to have this. Headphone jack on the back. The first valve amp that had a headphone jack. To use the attenuator, you unplug the cable of the built-in speaker from the Speaker Out jack, and plug it into the Headphone Out jack instead. (This amp is 1986) Serial: U21963. Controls on the front: From left to right: Input / Gain / Treble / Middle/ Bass / Output Level / Standby / Power. Controls on the back: Left to right: Power cable connector / Fuse / Balanced Direct Out (Floating Ground) / Speaker Out 8 ohm (disconnect speaker jack for muted or headphone use) / Headphone Out / Line Out (unbalanced). 12 Celestion Vintage 30 speaker – the first Marshall amp to use this speaker. DC preamp tube filaments to minimize hum and noise. Vintage 1986 all-tube Marshall combo, Model 4001, known as the’Studio 15′. Uses two 12AX7′s and two 6V6′s (very rare for Marshall). It does not sound like a Fender Amp at all, basically a mini JCM800. A very cool rock machine, that wont kill your eardrums! Has a built-in attenuator, headphone jack, and XLR direct out! Everything is original on the amp, with exception to the tubes. The studio 15 is actually rated 18 watts. Everyone knows Marshall watts are loud watts! The amp has a 12 inch Celestion G12 Vintage 30 speaker. An incredible sounding speaker. The speaker may be disconnected without amy damage to the amplifier section allowing the amp to be used as a valve pre-amplifier via the line out socket. The internal speaker can be connected to the headphone socket, which gives a very low signal through the speaker – allowing the amp to be used at maximum volume and giving full bodied valve distortion. The internal speaker must be disconnected, to allow the headphone socket to be used with headphones. Headphone output: Output for headphones (only operative when speaker is disconnected), alternatively the internal speaker may be connected to this output for attenuated output. All original except tubes. FLAWS: Very minor signs of wear as shown in photos. The Output control knob is loose. I use plumbers tape and the knob is snug and works perfectly. One of the cleanest examples you will come across! This particular amp has a lay down transformer. What this means is that Marshall built it with one of the transformers laying on its side. According to some Marshall collectors, having a transformer lay on its side makes a harmonic difference in the tone which produces a richer distortion and feedback compared to models which have their transformers in an upright layout. The previous owner had the power cable replaced, which is usually a desirable upgrade and makes a nominal difference in the amps “originality” or collectibility. All original except for power cord.
