Up for sale, a 1964 Vox AC50/4 Mk III vintage tube amp head in excellent condition and in perfect working order, freshly serviced with an extremely original circuit. This UK-made JMI AC50 is a real powerhouse, and the dual EL34 design has plenty of British sizzle and chime, with big, bold overdrive when diming it out, and tight, punchy low end thanks to the diode rectification. The amp pairs exceedingly well with all manner of guitars for iconic British Invasion-worthy tonalities. The circuit is extremely original and freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. All of the original transformers are intact, along with all of the original pots, and a preamp that retains virtually all of the original signal caps and resistors with Mullard mustard caps that date to the 3rd quarter of’64. There are two larger capacitors in the power supply to ensure optimal functionality, and the power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong variety. The tube complement includes a pair of Ruby EL34 power tubes, with a few original UK-made Mullards in the preamp. The head cabinet retains the original black basketweave tolex paired with the original lattice diamond grillcloth and white piping. The pack panel features dual multi-pin jacks and 8/16 ohm functionality, and adaptor cabling is included to convert the outputs to conventional 1/4 jacks. The blue/gray faceplate retains all of the original chicken head knobs, and other small yet meaningful original parts include the original plastic handle, raised Vox logo, one-pin corners, and model/serial number badge on the back.

The tube complement includes a pair of Golden Dragon EL34 power tubes as well as vintage valves in the preamp from Amperex and JAN Phillips. The head cabinet retains the original black basketweave tolex paired with the original lattice diamond grillcloth and white piping. The pack panel features dual multi-pin jacks and 8/16 ohm functionality, and adaptor cabling is included to convert the outputs to conventional 1/4 jacks. Here we have a vintage 1965 Vox AC50 MK III tube amplifier head! This one is in very good condition overall and good functioning order. The amp is serial number 2220, and is the solid state rectified spec manufactured in England by JMI. It is the tall or big box version which has the chassis mounted to a slider board for easy servicing. The grille cloth has some tears, but the tolex and handle are in fairly good shape. This gray panel amp has two channels with two inputs per channel, along with volume, treble and bass controls. It also has a voltage selector knob. There is an xlr power port and the amp includes a modern cable with a US 3 prong plug. The speaker out section has been replaced with a metal grill and there is a simple hard-wired female 1/4 jack in place. The amp has seen service over the years as you’d expect.

An uncommon transitional amp only offered briefly in’64, this UK made JMI AC50 still retains the GZ34 rectifier of the earlier small box versions, as well as sporting the combination of the early brown lattice grillcloth paired with a (new for’64) gray faceplate. Essentially the same as the Mk I AC50 circuit with a second set of inputs and second channel, the big box version for’64 is a real powerhouse. The dual EL34 design has plenty of British sizzle and chime, with big, bold overdrive when you dime it out. And yes, this amp pairs exceedingly well with your favorite Rickenbacker or Gretsch Tennessean if you want the iconic British Invasion sounds of you know who. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced and left original in all the ways that count, with stock output and power transformers and a recap of the power supply to ensure that everything is operating within original factory spec. The pots have been replaced with new Alphas that turn smoothly and work reliably. A new Hammond choke is also present inside the chassis. The head cabinet retains the original black basketweave tolex paired with the original brown lattice diamond grillcloth and gold piping. The jacks on the stock back panel have been converted from the original three-pin variety to a more conventional 1/4 configuration.
