This is a General Electric “Stereo Classic” Model RG-1000 Remote Control Unit, made in Auburn, NY in the early days of home stereo. It’s a passive accessory with ganged volume and balance potentiometers on a 30-foot cord, so you can adjust both from your chair. GE built it for its Stereo Classic tube amplifiers. Per the instructions, it also works with other amps that have a tape or preamp output, or with a pair of mono amps such as the GE PA-20. The unit has a textured aluminum faceplate with chrome trim, ebony knobs and base, and the GE Hi-Fi branding. The cord has its original L/R marker tags, and the yellow factory twist ties are still in place. Tested: Both potentiometers check out with a multimeter, showing smooth, continuous resistance sweep across volume and balance with no open spots. It has not been tested in a live audio system. Condition: Unit is clean, with bright chrome and good faceplate graphics Cord is supple, with no cracks or splits noted Original box shows edge wear, corner tears, and a detached end flap (included) Instruction sheet is complete, with fold wear and light toning, and a small paper loss on the illustration. Supremely Rare in this condition!
