Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Pro in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. A true Pre-CBS example, this Pro pushes 40 watts of power via a pair of 6L6 power tubes through a single 15 JBL D130F speaker with its original cone. An ideal amp for crystalline Fender cleans and the sparkling, smooth response for which the Blackface era amps are known, this Pro delivers an extremely efficient and powerful sound, perfect for guitar or pedal steel and an ideal candidate for a Rhodes piano too. Tube rectified and notably responsive to your picking dynamics, this JBL D130F-equipped Pro offers a very articulate top end and incredible efficiency and projection, allowing the Pro to easily keep up with a band. The circuit is extremely stock, with a virtually untouched preamp and full recap of the power supply with high quality Sprague Atoms. All of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp too, an essential part of the sweet and musical quality of the Blackface amps. The Schumacher transformers are all original, dating to early 1964, and the original CTS pots and chassis stamp date to’64 as well. The original faceplate is extremely clean, with stock witch hat knobs and the “Fender Electric Instruments” text used in the Pre-CBS era. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is fully intact and only lightly aged, with an “NE” date stamp which translates to May of 1964. The JBL speaker is likely an aftermarket upgrade, but a speaker Fender did offer in this era in their Vibroverb and Showman amps. The speaker has a clean frame and most importantly its original JBL cone with a clean “21057″ cone stamp visible. Cosmetically, the amp is extremely clean, retaining the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The tolex is remarkably well-kept as the photos can attest, with sparingly little aging of the nickel hardware and moderate darkening of the grillcloth over the last 55 years. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and loaded with a compliment of modern valves. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. This amp is one of few to retain the original AA165 guts! The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to early 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. Both the preamp and power amp have been thoroughly maintained, with new Sprague Atom main filter caps and smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Utah 12 speakers. These speakers are detailed, clear, and quite punchy, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. Tested against vintage pairs of Oxfords and Jensens, these Utahs were a surprise favorite, and the original black frames are quite clean, retaining the blue foil Fender labels on the magnets. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logos. The original faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of patina on the hardware, and some expected scuffs and minor wear around the edges of the enclosures, but as the photos show, this Bassman presents very well and wound look great in a studio collection. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Deluxe in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the famed AB763 circuit and Pre-CBS features including the “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and early no-logo cabinet, this amp has an incredible amount of headroom and power, something that instantly sets it apart from its reverb equipped brother. Since the addition of the reverb effect into the Fender circuit essentially adds another gain stage, the non-reverb Deluxe really stands out as Fender’s premier 1×12 Blackface combo amp, with incredible warmth, EQ balance, and clarity. Perfect as a platform for pedals and an ideal amp for studio use, this Deluxe captures the quintessential Fender clean sound, with smooth tube overdrive and a hint of compression at higher volumes. The tremolo has a strong, even pulse as well, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is extremely original, and the stock Schumacher-made transformers date to Spring of’65. The filter caps and smaller bypass caps have been replaced with top-tier Sprague components to keep everything operating within original factory specifications, and the circuit is otherwise untouched, with all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps intact in the preamp. These caps are essential to the rich, musical quality of the Blackface-era circuits. The CTS pots are all stock as well and date to the 12th week of’65. The power tubes are a pair of vintage matched gray plate RCA 6V6s which have been biased to perfection and sound particularly good, along with a vintage 5U4 rectifier. The preamp tubes are a combination of newer and vintage valves, all working as intended. The speaker is a vintage Oxford 12L6 with a clean black frame and original blue foil Fender label on the magnet. The original tube chart is intact and particularly clean, with an “OF” date code that translates to June of 1965. The amp also is from only the 2nd production run of the Blackface Deluxe, making it a notably early example. Cosmetically, this is an extremely clean and well cared for amplifier, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. As the photos show, the tolex is extremely tidy and the faceplate is quite clean as well, with a set of minty witch hat knobs. This Deluxe would look great in a studio and is an example that will satisfy players and collectors alike. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb, very original and freshly serviced. Widely considered to be one of the greatest tube amps of all time, this Deluxe Reverb was produced early in the second full year of production, with a “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate, rare no logo grill, and date codes spanning the last weeks of the Pre-CBS era and subsequent buyout. Stocked with a matched pair of fresh JJ 6V6 power tubes, this Deluxe delivers the shimmering, balanced clean tone that has made these amps a mainstay in studios and on stages for decades. The amp has a sweet, balanced sound that delivers the top end sparkle and clarity characteristic of the best amps from Fender’s Blackface era. This amp is very dynamic, working as a perfect platform for effects pedals and while the treble response can twang with the best, there’s a smoothness to the top end that keeps the amp from ever sounding harsh. Turning it up past 4 on the volume dial, the amp begins to push into overdrive territory with light compression and plenty of sizzle. The Reverb is very lush with long decay and the Tremolo has a strong pulse with an almost three dimensional quality to the effect when you increase the intensity. The circuit is very original and only serviced as strictly necessary to ensure optimal playability. All of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps intact in the preamp (an essential part of the Blackface sound), and all of the original CTS pots are intact as well, dating to late’64. The original Schumacher transformers span late’64 and very early in 1965. The power supply has been professionally recapped, and the smaller bias and bypass caps in the preamp have been replaced as well. A three-prong cable has been installed too. The tube chart is present, with an “OD” date code which translates to April of 1965. The speaker is a vintage, era-correct Oxford 12K5-6 with a clean black frame and the original Fender blue foil label on the magnet. One of Fender’s (and Oxford’s) rarest speakers, the 12K5-6 was only used in the Deluxe Reverb and this speaker retains a very clean, original cone. Cosmetically, the amp is complete with the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The grillcloth has aged moderately since’65 and the Blackface faceplate shows very little wear with all of the black witch hat knobs intact. The tolex shows some wear at the corners corners along with some requisite stray nicks and scuffs and a single cigarette burn on the top, and overall this amp presents well. A logo was added to the grill and subsequently removed, showing a very faint outline of its placement, and an extra set of feet was installed on the bottom of the enclosure. All of the original hardware including the corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet) and logo is present. A modern two-button footswitch is included. Real Deal Blackface 1965 Fender Pro Reverb. This is a wonderful players grade example of this classic 2×12 Tube Amp. 1968/69 Power and Output Transformers. Original Finger Jointed Pine Cabinet and Tolex. Original 2-Prong Power Cord. Recent model Jensen C12K Speakers. Missing Tilt Back Leg Stops, preamp tube shields and Back Panels. First and foremost, this amp sounds amazing. Its everything you would expect a blackface fender amp to be. The reverb is lush. The amp has that legendary clean, with that secret sauce blackface texture that just FEELS good when you’re playing through it. The tremolo is a bit weak however. Most likely needs a new optocoupler. The cabinet has seen better days. It doesn’t rattle or anything, but cosmetically its missing the back panels and the nubs the tilt back legs rest on. It is the original finger jointed pine cabinet however, and the tube chart is more or less in tact. The baffle has been replaced before and newer Jensen speakers have been installed. The power and output transformers have been replaced with units from 1968/1969 (same AA165 circuit). The pots are original. The latest original date code I can find on the amp is the 44th Week of 1965 on one of the potentiometers. I’ve included a picture of this particular one, as well as the date codes of the transformers, choke, serial number, and tube chart. Its been serviced before and the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, including Sprague Atoms in the filter caps. The original 2-Prong power cord remains. Tubes are mostly newer Groove Tubes, and it has a 5U4 in the rectifier position from the previous caretaker. This is a great example of a Blackface Pro Reverb, and the supply of these amps is only decreasing, and their value is only increasing.
