EXTREMELY RARE, one of the coolest 1960s Vintage UNIVERSAL/VERSATONE by Audio Guild Corp. TUBE COMBO PROFESSIONAL AMPLIFIER in excellent for this year Physical and Working condition. Has 2-way speakers system with 3 separate chambers – for 12 UTAH L. WOOFER, 8 JENSEN SOUND LABORATORIES HIGH FIDELITY LOUDSPEAKER and one of the Chambers is EMPTY (see pics). ALL SPEAKERS AND ALL ANOTHER PARTS ORIGINAL, INCLUDING REVERBERATOR SYSTEM, NOTHING CHANGED. EVERYTHING IN EXCELLENT PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITION. JUST SMALL DENT ON THE FRONT LOGO PANEL AND SOME WEARS ON THE CORNERS OF THE CABINET (see pics), BUT IT DOESNT AFFECT ON THE AMAZING SOUND. THIS IS THE PROFESSIONAL MODEL as compared to the student model, Bonham or Lyric that are usually for sale. Similar ones were used for recording 1960′s Surf Tunes and other clean Hi-Fi sounds. Audio Guild was established by Magnatone designer, Donald Bonham. Audio Guild amps were designed by Don Bonham, post Magnatone, and exist under a few different brand names. Amps manufactured in Van Nuys, California in 1960/70s. After leaving Magnatone in the 1960s, chief engineer Don Bonham went on to form the Audio Guild Corporation. Since Bonham owned the patent, the amps featured the same pitch-shifting vibrato circuit that made Magnatone amps famous. Bonham was an engineer with the Hammond Organ Co before he started building amps, so it was only natural he would be interested in the vibrato effect. Bonham believed in the highest quality sound and innovation. The Audio Guild amps he produced in the late 60s were used by pros in the studio where the highest fidelity was much more important than brute power. Carol Kay, the most popular studio bass player in Hollywood, used his amp, also how the Beach Boys used it. Bonham was a big fan of Acoustic Suspension speakers. Unheard of in instrument amps, A. Speakers could not mounted in open cabinets, the large, unrestrained cone travel would destroy the speaker. But Bonham didnt want to use the usual cabinet design of a box filled with foam to dampen the boxs resonate frequency, the foam also lowered efficiency. So Bonham designed a cabinet with a small chamber next to the speaker chamber, with a small hole between the chambers that acted as a valve. It allowed the speaker to function at max efficiency while eliminating any resonating frequencies. A technology Bonham borrowed from the HiFi world was bi-amping. The input was split into high and low frequencies and amplified separately, for a cleaner sound. Donnald Bonham didnt make the loudest or the most, he just made the best. 1958 Guild Masteramp 66-J Vintage 1x12 Tube Amplifier Tweed Jensen P12Q 6V6

Up for sale, a 1958 Guild Masteramp model 66-J, recently serviced and in perfect working order. One of the earliest tube amps produced by Guild, this tweed wonder shares many similarities with the narrow panel Fender Deluxe, with a dual 6V6 output stage and 5Y3 rectifier, dual triode preamp tubes, four input design, and alnico Jensen 12 speaker. The tone is warm, dynamic, and clear, with a surprising amount of headroom and just enough overdrive to deliver ideal bite and smooth saturation when you dime it out. The bias-based tremolo circuit has a nice strong pulse as well, and the original wedge footswitch for activating the effect is included too! Produced for only a few short years when the Guild guitar company first came into existence, the Masteramp 66-J is quite rare and was made in-house at their factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. While there is some credence to reports that Ampeg supplied Guild with certain elements of their amp builds, the tonal response is more analogous to Fender amps of the era. The circuit is very original, with stock transformers, and a complete recap of the main power supply as well as a few caps in the preamp to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The stock Centralab pots are all intact and date to the first weeks of 1958. The power tubes are a fresh pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6s, along with a vintage USA-made 5Y3 rectifier and combination of modern and vintage preamp tubes. The speaker is an era-correct Jensen P12Q that has ideal headroom and a near mint blueish green speaker frame with the original Jensen foil sticker on the magnet bell. The original two-tone tweed and brown leatherette covering is intact, with wear along the edges of the enclosure and on the bottom of the cab in particular. The original oxblood grillcloth is intact too, with distinctive “spaghetti” swirls, and a modern leather handle has been installed. The chrome chassis retains the majority of the white silkscreen lettering, the chrome still has plenty of shine with minimal pitting, and the stock Dakaware knobs are present. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Audio Guild Corp (Magnatone) Vintage Tube Amp Amplifier, 1970 Imperial. For most of the years since it has been idle at my parents home. Obviously, the desired guitar career didnt pan out. The condition is used and operational. I can provide additional pictures as needed. The black vinyl covering has been worn off or curled in some areas, mostly the corners. There is surface rust on some parts including the jacks and the handle brackets. The electrical power cord appears to be original and is twisted and melted in some areas. I assume the melting was due to contact with the hot tubes before I owned it. The interior circuitry portion of the amp has not been disassembled for inspection. The Imperial model nameplate is missing. The amp has a clean Dick Dale surfer sound when vibrato and reverb are used. Technical: Online sources suggest the amp is an Audio Guild Corp Imperial Model. Online sources suggest the amp is a 1970 production model. Utah 12 Speaker Codes: V12PXC2 328045 Power Transformer Codes: 1007 682 041 Output Transformer Codes: 1006 682 045 Serial Number: 4388.
