Vintage 1974 Ampeg V4-B Bass Amp Head. I just pulled this amp out of storage where it’s been for nearly 2 decades. I don’t have a bass so I tested it out with an electric guitar just to make sure everything is functioning properly. I played it for about a half hour but didn’t take the volume above 4. It’s been idle for a long time and I think it should get the once over by a tech before really pushing it. The good: All the controls worked properly. Every knob and switch seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. Additionally, when it was last retubed when 7027As were still available, (no longer the case) so it has a nice set of Magnavox branded 7027 output tubes. The bad: The lamp for the power indicator is burned out (the standby light works fine) The amp has normal scuffs and scrapes you’d expect from a heavy amp head and one big spot where the vinyl is missing. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and loaded with a compliment of modern valves. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. This amp is one of few to retain the original AA165 guts! The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to early 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. Both the preamp and power amp have been thoroughly maintained, with new Sprague Atom main filter caps and smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Utah 12 speakers. These speakers are detailed, clear, and quite punchy, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. Tested against vintage pairs of Oxfords and Jensens, these Utahs were a surprise favorite, and the original black frames are quite clean, retaining the blue foil Fender labels on the magnets. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logos. The original faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of patina on the hardware, and some expected scuffs and minor wear around the edges of the enclosures, but as the photos show, this Bassman presents very well and wound look great in a studio collection. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Why should you care about the Peavey VTM 120? Simple, this is one of the best heads I’ve ever owned. The thing you will hear about the head is that it is essentially a “hot-rodded JCM800″, let me be the first to tell you, that is absolutely nonsense. This amp sounds nothing like a JCM800, it is entirely its own beast. It is one of the final heads in a long series of chains that leads to 5150, however I will argue that Peavey got it right at VTM and the quality only went downhill after. The most unique aspect of the head are the dip switches. There are eight switches in all, including: two extra stages of gain, compression circuit, two low end modifications, mid range modification and finally two high end modification switches. Here is a Fender Vibro Champ guitar amplifier. This is a silverface era amp, from the 1970′s. Overall in great shape. Everything is in working order. Original face-plate was replaced with a blackface style reproduction. Furthermore, the amp was placed in a pine wood aftermarket head cabinet, about 10 years ago. Some of the tolex is lifting, and coming detached from cabinet. Also, two of the control knobs are later reproductions. Original 2 prong ac power plug was switched to a 3 prong grounded style. Also, amp comes with rca-to-quarter inch input jack cabinet cable. The original face-plate is not included in this listing. Furthermore, no foot-switch is included. For sale is a Mesa Boogie Bass 400 amp (not the Bass 400+). This amp cranks and is the one of the loudest best sounding amps Ive ever heard. You can really dial in some amazing tones with this amp with the push pull knobs and EQ. This amp was produced from 1985-August 1989 according to Mesas website. The amp was recently serviced by Accutech Audio and is sounding mint. This has been kept in my home studio in a flight case for most of its life. All the tubes are included…. 1 12AX7 1 12AU7 (I substituted a 5814). The speaker case and grill cover are in really nice condition. The tolex has no rips or tears and only has very minor age related wear. The handles are also in great shape and work perfectly. The case unlatches and detaches from each other and work as they should and are in very good condition. The Amplifier features an On/Off Toggle Power Switch, a single 6BQ5, a 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes, A Volume and Tone control, a fuse holder, 1/4″ input plug for guitar and a 1/4″ speaker output plug that the speaker plugs into. All of the knobs work and turn freely as they should and the power light comes on. The fuse is still good too but the tubes do not light up and it does not produce any sound. So this amp is a great candidate for a rebuild and need some tubes or work to bring it back to its full potential. The chassis is in good cosmetic condition for its age (please see photos). It measures approximately 13 3/4″ x 9 1/4″ x 9 1/4 including the handle and weighs about 18 lbs. For parts or restoration. I bring tube amplifiers up to power slowly on a variac with a full load to avoid damage and properly reform the capacitors and although I test them to the best of my ability, I’m not an expert by any means! I may not be able to test all functions, some may have been repaired or worked on by others and some functions may or may not work as there may be damaged components that we are unable to determine that need additional repairs. Some items may just be plugged in and powered on without further testing so don’t assume the item works because it powers on. When purchasing 50+ year old items you should expect that some work may need done to bring them back up to their full potential… Our items decades ago. Huge Ampeg tube head in good vintage shape. Needs nothing, ready to rock. A Les Paul with humbuckers sounds monstrous through this Ampeg! You can really dial in some punishing and gritty 1971-type tone. Run it into a 4×12 if you have one. Some people use V4s for bass guitar too, although I feel it is perfectly voiced for 6-string guitar. All EQ knobs and switches work as designed. Most components visible have 1974 date codes. The newest I see is the Northlake output transformer, dating to the 6th week of 1975. Caveats: The back panel is gone. The standby light doesnt seem to illuminate at all. The red power lights shows only the faintest of glimmers. Of course both switches function as intended. Master volume control added (black knob). I believe this is a simple conversion, and thus, simply reverse. The original printed schematic (Revision “F” I believe) is still intact on the top of the inner chassis, though somewhat torn and grimy. Interestingly theres a Bugera 12AX7 tube in the 6CG7 slot. It was there when I acquired the amp. I dont know if this has any bearing on the V-4s sound, but I left it (and all tubes) unmolested. A nearly new, matched quad of JJ 7027A sits in the output section. Other miniature tubes are a mix of Bugera, Electro-Harmonix, and JJ. I’m of the mind to leave a good thing untouched – this is the type of amplifier tone guitarists spend years searching for. This head weighs well over 50 pounds and measures about 11 x 26.5 x 10. You are looking at a Vintage’70s Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master 40 Watt All Tube Amp Head. Very similar to a Fender Bassman Blackface head. And just like a Bassman, the Bass Master is a much better guitar amp head than a bass head. The Bass Master has a very rich warm tube tone. Although originally designed as a bass head, the Traynor YBA-1 rapidly became the voice of guitar players looking for massive tone and drive from their amp throughout the 60s and 70s. The four separate inputs have been designed with varying input sensitivities allowing for radically different tones from each. By design, Channel One inputs deliver higher gain and drive than the darker and warmer Channel Two inputs. Each pair of inputs have their own highly responsive volume controls, and inputs can be stacked to allow both inputs to be blended simultaneously for that massive vintage drive tone. Four master tone controls (Treble, Bass, High and Low Range Expanders) make it easy to dial in the perfect sound. While’Treble’ and’Bass’ act as traditional tone controls, the Range Expanders function more as’Mid’ and’Presence’ Controls. Our Amp Tech serviced this amp. All pots, jacks and tube sockets were cleaned. A couple of caps were replaced. Replaced Fuse holder and fuse. You won’t have to spend any additional monies on this amp. Gig Ready on Arrival.
