1962 Fender Bassman 6G6B Blonde Brownface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Bassman in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early iteration of the “Piggyback” version of this amplifier with rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth, this Brownface Bassman drives two vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge range and after around 5 on the volume dial the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and sounds great. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat the Bassman for a tone that bridges the gap between the warmth and nuance of the Brownface circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Blackface line! The circuit is very original and has been well maintained and recently serviced with fresh filter caps and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, with stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth wire. All of the Schumacher transformers are original with mid 1962 date codes. The output transformer dates to the 17th week of’62, while the power transformer dates to the 20th week of that year. The tube chart is mostly intact too. The tube compliment includes a pair of vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes are mostly vintage valves as well from the likes of RCA and General Electric. The speaker cabinet is a rare transitional small box design that has the same dimensions as the 1×12 Tone Ring cab that preceded it, along with the internal “fins” on the back panel and a partial central divider on the original baffle. Fitted with a pair of vintage Jensen C12N speakers, these drivers are an optimal pairing for the 6G6B Bassman circuit, and while these speakers aren’t original, they do date to early 1964 and are the same make and model used in many’60s Bassmans. Cosmetically, this is an excellent and well kept example of one of Fender’s most desirable Pre-CBS circuits. Both the head and cabinet retain their original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth. In terms of hardware, the plastic “dogbone” handle on the head is original, while the handle on the cab is a modern replacement. The original faceplate is intact and quite clean, complete with original white barrel knobs. All other hardware is 100% stock, with original tilt-back chrome legs and stops, sphinx glides (feet), flat metal Fender logos, nickel corners and piggyback clip bars. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. 1973 Fender Musicmaster Bass tube amp modified with a vintage 15 Jensen speaker, and modern grounded plug. 1/28/2018, just had this amp recapped and new photos show the new parts and a plastic bag with the old parts. It sounds absolutely amazing. The baffle was replaced before I aquired the amp and is particle board, painted black. The speaker is a tight fit and the amp is rather light for its components. It sounds amazing and that speaker provides a marvelous thump and growl with P90′s, and intense warm lows with single coil pickups. There is a sweet spot between 6 and 8 with beautiful breakup. It sounds cool dimed, but too fuzzy and brown for my taste. It has a baby deluxe vibe before it starts to really overdrive. Great amp, great size. 1962 Fender Super Vintage Tube Amp Pre-CBS Brownface 2x10 Jensen P10Q, 6G4-A

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Super in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Brownface Pre-CBS tube amp was produced early in’62 with original transformers, a very original and freshly serviced circuit, a full compliment of vintage tubes, and a pair of stock teal frame Jensen P10Q speakers with original cones. A direct descendant of the Tweed era Super amp, this early Brownface example sports the same transformers and speakers as its close predecessor, delivering hi-fi clarity and sparkling, robust clean tones. Turning the amp up past 5 on the volume dial yields thick, chewy overdrive with great touch-sensitive responsiveness and EQ controls that have an incredibly wide sweep. And of course this is the most compact Brownface-era amp to feature the “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit. A true pitch shifting vibrato (not the tremolo found on most Fender amps), the Harmonic Vibrato sound has a thick, Leslie-esque throb and warble, with a three-dimensional quality and depth that is perfectly suited to the speaker compliment and cabinet size. Whether you want a slow, undulating swampy sound or faster, pulsating vibrato, this Super delivers the goods. The circuit has just been thoroughly tested by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and the original blue Ajax and yellow Astronn capacitors in the preamp are all intact. Aside from replacing the two bias caps as well as the smaller bypass caps with modern, high quality Spragues, the preamp is untouched. The original CTS pots are all intact too. The power amp has been recapped with new Sprague Atoms to guarantee reliable, trouble-free use for years to come. The speakers are the original pair of Jensen P10Qs. Both speakers have clean frames with only light speckles of rust, original bell covers, and clean Jensen labels. The rough brown tolex is intact along with the original wheat grillcloth. As the photos show, the tolex and grill are particularly clean, and both back panels are present too. There is a bit of rippling in the tolex on the sides where the original glue has come loose, yet all pieces of tolex are still adhered to the cab. All hardware is stock and accounted for including the brown plastic “dogbone” handle, corners, sphinx glides (feet), and flat “Fender” logo on the amp’s face. This Super is extremely original, freshly tested and serviced, and ready for stage and studio use. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. 1967 Fender Twin Reverb Vintage Blackface Tube Amp Blonde Tolex, Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Twin Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the last amps from’67 to retain the Blackface AB763 circuit, this amp has been thoroughly serviced in-house here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and is studio ready. The very original’67 chassis has been matched with a vintage pair of Jensen C12N speakers and a new Mojotone solid pine speaker cabinet with new smooth blonde tolex and gold sparkle grillcloth, reminiscent of Fender’s transitional’64 specs. The tone is full on Blackface power and sparkle with rich cleans that exemplify the kind of clarity and sweetness for which the AB763 circuit is known. The reverb has a particularly lush sound and strong decay, while the tremolo throbs with the best. A perfect platform for pedals and ideal for amplifying everything from a guitar or pedal steel to your favorite Fender Rhodes or vintage combo organ, this Twin Reverb is dialed in to sound its best. The circuit is very original, retaining all of the stock transformers with 1967 date codes, and the CTS pots date to late’67 as well. The preamp has been thoroughly serviced with new Sprague Orange Drop tone caps and smaller bypass caps, and the power amp has been freshly recapped as well to ensure stable, reliable use. The speakers are a matched pair of Jensen C12Ns from early’68. Both of these speakers have been freshly reconed and sound great with tight, focused tone and plenty of power. Cosmetically, this amp is near mint as one would expect, given the brand new tolex and grillcloth on the new Mojotone speaker cab. The faceplate is a new reissue Blackface-style plate paired with all of the original witch hat knobs. The chassis straps are original, while the corners and sphinx glides (feet) are modern. Up for sale, a 1965 Silvertone model 1484 “Twin Twelve” piggyback tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. 100% original with new 6L6 power tubes and a full compliment of stock preamp tubes, this Silvertone amp is a clean and well-kept example. Manufactured by Danelectro in the USA and marketed through Sears via their house brand “Silvertone, ” the 1484 was one of the top-tier department store amps of its day, and also an amp that’s found favor with todays players including Jack White and Beck. The 1484 “Twin Twelve” has an extremely smooth and rich breakup, with warm clean tones at low volumes that give way to a touch of tube overdrive at roughly half volume, and reach full tube saturation with a touch of compression anywhere beyond 7 on the dial. Both channels feature a pair of inputs (high and low) and both channels share the built-in Reverb and Tremolo effects. While the Tremolo has a nice strong pulse that gets quite thick and deep, the Reverb is infamous in its own right for its thin, trashy sound that’s perfect for lo-fi and surf tunes, with a unique gain structure and chimey top end character. The tank is working within factory spec, although the effect is heard mostly on the note decay. The circuit is original, with stock transformers and CTS pots that date to early’65. The speakers are a pair of original Jensen C12Q 12 drivers, with clean green frames, minty Jensen labels on the ceramic magnets, and the original wiring harness. The chassis is quite clean with all of the stock barrel knobs and all the black silkscreen text present on the aluminum faceplate. Of course, one of the coolest features of the 1484 is the ability to store the head in the back of the cabinet, held in by a couple of swiveling nylon tabs. The long speaker cable can be secured in the elastic straps on either side of the head cavity in the cab, and the whole package is surprisingly light and portable. In terms of cosmetic condition, this amp has been well cared for, with grillcloth that has plenty of sparkle in the thread, and only some modest scuffs and dings on the gray thatched exterior of the head and cab. Given the more fragile material used to cover the Silvertone amps (when compared to the tolex and nubtex utilize by Gibson, Fender, Vox and others), it makes the condition of this amp even more impressive, as most 1484s began to show wear even after light use. This amp, in contrast, likely lived at home and has been well preserved as the photos show! Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1964 Silvertone 1483 “piggyback” tube amplifier, recently serviced and in perfect working order. A favorite of guitarists for decades for its smooth breakup, dynamic tube tone, and simple, intuitive control layout, this particular amp was owned by Seattle band Death Cab for Cutie. The circuit has been professionally serviced and recapped as necessary, with a new, properly biased pair of Electro Harmonix 6L6 power tubes and a combination of newer and vintage valves in the preamp. The CTS pots date to the 20th week of 1964, while the original Jensen 15 C15P speaker dates to the 30th week of’64. Cosmetically, this amp shows some wear through the gray thatched covering on the cabinet in particular, while the head is cleaner overall. Both head and cab are structurally sound and complete with original hardware. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 1965 Supro Thunderbolt S6420 Vintage Tube Amp 1x15 Jensen C15N

Up for sale, a 1965 Supro Thunderbolt in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This legendary tube amp was made in the USA by Valco and comes complete with a fresh compliment of JJ tubes. Lightly compressed, focused and incredibly rich sounding, the Thunderbolt pushes 35 watts through a pair of 6L6 power tubes and a Jensen C15N speaker. For everything from clean, wooly rhythm tones to saturated tube overdrive further up on the volume dial, the Thunderbolt delivers a pure sound with a simple yet ingenious circuit and only two knobs for Volume and Tone. This is the earlier iteration of the Thunderbolt with a tube rectified circuit that has that quintessential sag. The circuit is thoroughly serviced and extremely clean, with both transformers dating the amp to 1965. The preamp has been fully recapped to ensure the amp responds as per factory spec and two new Alpha pots were also installed. The chassis is notably clean with chrome that shows only light surface patina and original black silkscreen graphics and knobs. The amp has been retolexed in correct “midnight blue vinyl” with silver sparkle grillcloth. There is some wear on one side of the cabinet and one notable spot on top where it appears the texture of the tolex melted. If you’re looking for the essential Valco/Supro tone for recording or live use, look no further than the Thunderbolt! Up for sale, a 1958 Fender Super, complete with its original tweed and a pair of Jensen P10R alnico 10 speakers. One of the most rare, sought after, and collectable Fender Tweed amps ever produced (with good reason), the Tweed Super is the baby brother of the Bassman in many respects, offering the same harmonic rich, dynamic tones in a more studio friendly and portable enclosure. The low end is wooly and thick, the midrange has just the right amount of punch, and the top end is classic’50s Fender with detail and balance that few other amps can match. Clear and present, with incredible low end response even at low volumes, the Super allows you to easily dial in the right amount of bite and a touch of overdrive when you dig in. After around 6-7 on the volume dial, the amp cascades into full tube saturation, with sweet, singing overdrive. Thoroughly maintained, this Fender Super sounds every bit as good as vintage amp lore would suggest, and the original, aged tweed definitely looks the part too! The circuit has just been gone through by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, and the preamp boasts a couple original yellow Astron tone caps as well as a few blue Ajax caps (typically seen in Brownface/Blackface era Fenders). The amp has been fully recapped and the pots are a mix of mid-60s CTS and original Stackpole pots dating to 1957. The power transformer is a modern replacement, while the output transformer is a genuine open bell, black frame Schumacher transformer that dates to 1958. While not original to this amp, this transformer is as virtually identical in every way and sounds like a genuine vintage component should. On the faceplate, the stock chicken head knobs are intact and a modest amount of the original white lettering is present as well. The faceplate does show wear and pitting, although it’s been shined up and looks presentable. The amp is fitted with a pair of modern Jensen P10R green frame speakers with proper bell covers, and these are soldered to the original wiring harness. The stock tube chart is present and quite clean, denoting the 5F4 circuit and also still featuring a lightly stamped “HC” date code which translates to March of 1958. The original lacquered tweed is intact and oh, if this amp could talk! A undisputed road warrior, this tweed is worn and ambered, but remarkably still present. The clean, original “Fender Super” badge is present on the face of the amp and the amp is fitted with a genuine’50s Fender leather handle. Comparable only to the Bassman in terms of Fender’s tweed dual 6L6 offerings, the Super is a standout favorite among collectors and players alike! Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with stock Jensen C12N speakers and complete with a host of vintage RCA and Telefunken tubes. This fully serviced vintage Blackface Fender amp is a true AA165 circuit Bassman with a Pre-CBS “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and early’65 date codes. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB15 that would be seen through 1968. The circuit retains all of the original transformers which all date to the first weeks of 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the preamp and the amp has just been professionally recapped with new filter and bypass caps as necessary to keep the amp operating in tip-top shape. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “OD” date stamp which translates to April of 1965. The amp is fitted with a modern three-prong cable. The tubes consist of a pair of vintage RCA 6L6GC power tubes, along with a trio of RCA 12AX7s and a Telefunken 12AT7 phase inverter tube. The power tubes are properly biased and sound particularly lush and hi-fi, and the Telefunken has a distinct tightness and headroom. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of original Jensen C12N speakers, and these 12 drivers are arguably the most desirable speakers for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The frames are very clean, the original gold Jensen labels are present, and both speakers have their original cones. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are only a few requisite scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of light patina on the hardware as well as faint aging of the grillcloth on the head in particular, but that’s about the extent of any wear! This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures.
