I believe it is from the 40s. Needs repair but all parts look to be original. Powers on but produces a loud constant hum. It does produce sound from a plugged in instrument on all 3 inputs. Tubes light up but red power light does not. Leather on handle has come apart. Power cable has electrical tape on it. Various scratches and marks on case. See pictures for details. Vintage Masco MA-25 amplifier tube head harp guitar amp etc PROJECT! This is an old Masco MA-25 MA-25 all-tube amplifier. Originally a PA head, but in recent times many have been converted for guitar or harmonica use. This one has never been converted. UNTESTED and can be presumed to be currently not working properly. I don’t see any obvious replaced parts (I think those Sprague orange drops could be original but that is a guess) so I didn’t plug it in; I’m sure the capacitors will need either replacement or possible reforming and I have not attempted that. Also, it still has the original multi-pin speaker jacks and I don’t have anything to use with those. Also, the inputs are screw-on style except for one RCA input which is for a mono phonograph. I hate to put things IN CAPS but I’m really trying to avoid someone getting this, deciding it’s too much work and then returning it. You can see cosmetically it looks pretty good. Missing two of the six screws that hold the bottom on but the four present do the job. I did test the tubes and all the small tubes (the 7 series preamps) test at 100% or better on my B&K 707 tester (which doesn’t mean that if you use your tester you might not get the same results as testers vary); the 5U4 rectifier also tests strong. One of the 6L6 tubes tests in the questionable range (around 60%) , other a bit better so you should plan on new power tubes anyway. Power cord possibly replaced as it looks newer. There is some finish damage and wear to the chassis and cover but overall it looks pretty good cosmetically and the Masco logo is intact. The maroon knobs are original. Could be a good project for someone with the skills and time but if not you should find someone with experience (Skip Simmons is maybe the top guy in the country for Masco restorations). _gsrx_vers_1233 GS 8.1.1 (1233). This is a Custom made Cabinet with a MC-25 Masco chassis. The amp is driving out of 2 X 12 speakers.. 1 speaker is a vintage Oxford 2ND speaker Rola.. The amp sounds amazing. Has some serious power. Nice bass response and also breaks up really easy… I never even pushed past 3/4 volume…. There are 2 channels, the third channel i believe was for a phono but is not hooked… The 1 and second knobs are marked mic.. The 4th knob is power and treble… Sounds between a thunderbolt the the bass response of a twin… Overall this is a great amp.. The channel 1 had a bit static. But seemed to go away.. 2 ND channel ran strong and quiet.. The amp weighs 53 LBS…. CA, NV, WA, FL, TX. This is a very cool and collectible Masco MA-25N vintage tube amp favored by Harp and Guitar players. It comes with a Photofact sheet. Its all original and unmodified. It comes with the original tubes. It has a Cedar Falls Schools asset tag on it which can probably be taken off, but I left it on because it gave a uniqueness to it. VINTAGE 1960s GUITAR TUBE AMP AMPLIFIER REALISTIC PA-45 VGC MID CENTURY 6L6 DUO, also known as the Fanon Masco FMA35. I believe this one has a Solid State rectifier and will be a little louder and tighter on teh bottom end. Sounds great with excellent tone and power with great tone and gain control. Two 6L6 POWER TUBES. Can power 16, 8 and 4 ohm speaker loads and has outputs for 70 and one other type 25V? Speaker installations, such as the kind used in schools or churches. It’s a real work horse and has some great clean tone, and smooth overdrive characteristics with the same power tubes of the classic fender amps, but actually driving them hard with some real power! It makes my old bassman sound a bit cold! If I don’t sell it, I’ll likely start using it for my guitar rig! It’s the kind of oddball rig that I can really make sing and definitely is one that no one else is using! And that’s a shame, because it’s really a cool amp! It has microphone and phono inputs, which are very sensitive and can get you some GODLY and crunchy overdrive as well as cleaner inputs for getting the most clean out of the amp. It’s more versatile, tonally, than a lot of the guitar amps of the era. A lot of musicians back in the day would use these PA amps for their guitars and plug into the mic inputs… Hendrix and Leslie West to name two HUGE ones, both using the classic Sun Colluseum PA head… It’s made from pretty heavy pressed bent steel plate, and really would have put you years ahead of the competition back in the 60′s if you used this on guitar! 35 real tube watts isn’t a joke and with some good speakers, you will probably get enough drive to fall in love! Easy to mod and can be used for anything you want that tube mojo on with some punch, such as vintage electric pianos, upright bass, harmonica (harp) and of course all manner of guitar. Will do a loud crunchy overdrive, or a sparkly clean but still gainy hi-fi clean tone for acoustic. Get it before I talk myself into keeping it! So no harm in trying! This is the Masco 17N tube amplifier made famous by Little Walter. See photo of him playing through a 17N, although Little Walter played through many different models of Masco PA amps. It was restored to the original specifications. A schematic will be included. A few small changes were made to the circuit. Two audio coupling capacitors off the input jack were increased in value from. 01uf to allow for more bass frequencies. Output jacks were converted to 1/4 inch jacks and a line out was installed. A new power resistor that is period correct was installed in place of the old string resistor. New capacitors were installed in place of the old ones using the same specifications. I used good quality components like paper in oil glass sealed Russian military coupling capacitors, mojotone caps, sprague atoms and orange drops. The amplifier works and I have used it for both practice and gigs. They aren’t making these amps anymore. I enjoyed it while I had it and it is a very cool amp and a collectible.
