McIntosh MC-225 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier #28 For sale is a rare vintage McIntosh 225 Stereo Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier. It appears to be all original and very well taken care of, but we are sending it off to our pro tech to get it serviced and fully recapped as necessary. Please inspect the photos yourself to determine the condition and components. In excellent shape, and will be fully functional. The special thing to about this unit is it is serial number 128C1, and these started at 100C1 in 1961 making this the 28th one ever produced. Quite rare to find such a clean early example, definitely a collectible and valuable unit for diehard McIntosh fans. The internals photos show the unit unserviced, and any components replaced out will be included. We will provide another photos of internals after servicing is completed. This amplifier has been sitting on an office shelf for several years, it’s time it goes to a good home that will put it to use. Check the pictures to see what type of shape it’s in – very clean and almost no pitting or any damage. It has likely benefited from the low humidity here in Colorado. As it’s an expensive item, if you have questions or have specific ways for me to validate it’s status, message me. I’ve recently been informed that this amp’s serial number 247 is one of the earliest ones made, roughly Oct 1960, and is a real collector’s item. Only blemish to note is the number etched into the chrome on the right rear of the unit. Looks like a social security number, but was put on by a previous owner so hard to tell. Want to make sure it’s pointed out so it’s not a surprise when it arrives. Anyone looking at this probably already knows the specs, but here it goes anyway.. 40 watts per channel into 8 (stereo), 80 watts into 2 (mono). Signal to noise ratio. 1 x 12AX7, 2 x 12AU7, 2 x 12BH7, 2 x 12AX7, 4 x 6L6GC. 17-1/4 x 10-3/4 x 8 inches. Up for sale is an excellent original condition McIntosh MC-275 Stereo Tube Amp. It has been in my collection more than 30 years since I bought it from the original owner in Chicago. I have used it from time to time with many different speakers. It comes with four vintage Sylvania 6550 tubes and Telefunken 12AX7, 12AU7, USA Made 12BH7 miniature tubes. Four Sylvania 6550 tubes are vintage new tubes. Each pair of these is almost matched and strong by Hickok 539C and TV-7 tube tester. There has been no modification done to this amp as seen in the photos. It is in original stock condition. All electrolytic capacitors are measured fine without any leak or dried up. Also it comes with a genuine McIntosh factory tube cage. It still plays and produces an excellent sound, however. This amplifier is a true work of art and must be seen and heard to be appreciated. Sonic performance is perfect condition. Physical condition is near perfect. There is one small chip in the glass in the very top right corner. Invisible at listening distance, but please see photos for zoomed in view of this imperfection. This amp is very conservatively built with miles of headroom across the entire frequency spectrum on the output stage! That is why is amplifier used eight KT88′s on the output.
