Gibson GA-18 Explorer 1959 Vintage Tweed Tube Amp Guitar Amplifier Original. This was a 80 year old friend of mines amp he bought it new when he passed away it was given to me its got the period correct guitar cord with it and the 1 button foot peddle, only thing with this is the cord to the peddle is brittle needs to be replaced the power cord is fine not sure if it was ever replaced its black and the foot peddle cord is brown. All the emblems are nice and handel for carrying is perfect no damage at all the tweed is in great shape and outer box is as well has a couple scrapes on bottom corner right and left has all 4 little chrom feet it sits on its got the original components the top where the knobs are is a little worn but you can still make out the name EXPLORER AND VOL AND SUCH ARE WORN FROM TURNING thats the only thing i can see thats used looking. ALWAYS KEPT INSIDE AIR CONDITIONED HOME HE WAS NEVER IN A BAND JUST PLAYED AT GATHERINGS SOLO SO NEVER VERY LOUD ALWAYS PLAYED LOW LEVELS. ITS A BARGAIN FIR SOMEONE. I DONT PLAY OR ID KEEP IT. Vintage 50s Gibson Gibsonette Tube Amp. Powers up and plays! Knobs had some scrachy to them when I tested the amp. I personally cleaned them with contact cleaner… They function as they should. At a lower to mid volume the amp sounds amazing. When you exceed the mid mark on volume… It does start surging/poping. This is an awesome piece. And having it seviced for reliability is part of owening one. Great peace for the true colector! Not many good survivors left! Due to the age of this amp…. I leave you to judge the over all pysical condition. So please study the pics. Carfully to note its pysical flaws. It will have tears and worn spots… ITS GOT THE FEW TIPYCAL cigarette Burns To The Top. Also shown in pics. Appears to be pretty much all original. As main part of this items condition / discription. I have owned this amp since the late 1970′s and it was my first guitar amp but I rarely used it. I think it was made in the 1950′s and it is a “Varsity” model. These originally came with matching lap steal guitars for students. It has all the same original parts and tubes that it came with and the same as when I got it. There is some wear and tear on the amp that you can see clearly in the photos. It displays really great and sounds wonderful. When you turn it on, it warms up then runs quiet and sounds fantastic! It has the original 6 speaker in it and the original tubes. Back in the 1980′s I replaced the electrical power cord with a nice flexible and safe one. It is the typical “mother of pearl” finish and this one is a gray and dark maroon color. These sound good and are very cool practice or recording amps! See the photos for the full story. It seems to sound about as loud as a Fender Champ amp? Either way, it is a rare amp and they are harder to find in this condition.
