Tweed Deluxe 5e3 Oxblood Electric Guitar Amplifier Combo 20W with 4 and 8 ohm Connected. Oxblood Deluxe is a tribute to the original Tweed Deluxe 5E3. It is a simple MEDIUM POWERED LOUD AMP to let guitarists hold their own in a small group. As blues, western swing, Western, and rockabilly bands began getting louder, the overdriven tone of a cranked-up Deluxe found its way onto many live and recorded performances. It is relatively small in size, having one twelve inch speaker, four inputs (5E3) and two channels. Each channel has a volume control. Both channels share a tone control. The inputs and controls are mounted at the top of the amplifier. It is often referred to as the “Tweed Deluxe” because of its covering-a light brown material which is actually a cotton twill that is often lacquered. The output valves are driven by a cathodyne phase splitter. These aspects of the circuit make a key contribution to the complex, wild and ragged sound of an overdriven 5E3 Deluxe, especially in comparison to other clean style amplifiers. VOX AC30 HEAD CLONE PROJECT. I PICKED THIS UP FROM A GUITAR STORE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO BUILT IT. IT WAS IN NON-WORKING CONDITION WHEN I BOUGHT IT, SO I BROUGHT IT HOME, FIXED SOME BROKEN SOLDER JOINTS, REPLACED THE FUSE, REPLACED THE WEBER COPPER CAP RECTIFIER (THOSE SUCKERS NEVER WORK RIGHT ANYWAY) WITH A RUSSIAN GENALEX GZ34 AND GOT IT TO FIRE UP. THIS AMP SOUNDS REALLY GOOD, VERY SIMILAR TO MY 62 AC30, BUT A BIT BRIGHTER (WHICH ISN’T NECESSARILY A BAD THING). PLENTY OF VOLUME AND IT BREAKS UP BEAUTIFULLY. THIS WOULD BE A PERFECT AMP TO GIG WITH SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAUL YOUR PERSNICKETY VINTAGE VOX AC30 AROUND TO GIGS. THE REASON I’M LISTING IT AS A PROJECT IS BECAUSE IT IS OVERHEATING AFTER 5 – 10 MINUTES OF USE. WITH WORK, FAMILY AND OTHER PROJECTS, I JUST DON’T HAVE TIME TO GO THROUGH THE CIRCUIT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE OR ISSUES ARE. I SUSPECT THAT THE ISSUE IS NOT A VERY DIFFICULT ISSUE TO FIX. THERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL SOLDER JOINTS THAT COULD BE CLEANED UP, BUT OVERALL THE PERSON WHO WIRED THIS AMP DID A PRETTY SOLID JOB ON A FAIRLY COMPLEX BUILD. THE CABINET AND PARTS ARE GOOD QUALITY AND THE FITMENT ISN’T BAD. NICE LEATHER HANDLES AND BRASS VENT COVERS. IT HAS AN INTERNAL SELECTOR FOR 4 OR 8 OHM OUTPUTS, WHICH IS NICE. THE POWER AND PREAMP TUBES APPEAR TO BE ALL JJ TUBES. THE REPRODUCTIONS ARE BUILT IN CHINA WITH PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIX WHEN THEY BREAK. IT’S A MUCH BETTER INVESTMENT THAN ANY CHINESE REPRODUCTION! NO SPEAKER OR SPEAKER CABINET IS INCLUDED, JUST THE HEAD. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. OTHER LOCATIONS WILL BE MORE.
