The MC240 has on one chassis two 40 watt power amplifiers. In addition to use as a stereo amplifier, the flexibility of the MC240 permits it to be used as a monophonic amplifier that delivers 80 watts, or as two separate 40 watt amplifiers with each channel amplifying completely separate programs, or as two amplifiers for use with an electronic crossover network. VINTAGE FISHER 800-C TUBE STEREO INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER. Working – Fully Serviced (Read Below for Service Report). Excellent Condition – See Pictures. Disassemble unit and inspect ALL solder connections under magnification. Reflow connections as necessary. Remove all tubes, treat all tube socket connections with DeOxit D-100 preservative. Check all tube connections for tension / tightness. Clean all switches and controls with DeOxit preservative. Check all power supply capacitors for integrity and AC ripple.. Replace any that do not test perfect. Check bias voltage and bias supply filter capacitor. Modify power resistor value in bias circuit to compensate for new type rectifiers higher voltage. Output tube bias now exactly on spec. Replace original output tube coupling caps with Jupiter audiophile Polypropylene types. Wow what an improvement! Replace all original smaller electrolytic capacitors with newer Elna and Nichicon types. Select phase inverter and audio (ECC83) types for best performance. This concludes audio section restoration. Now to FM & Multiplex. Remove tuning condenser cover. Lubricare condenser mechanics and dial string mechanism. Clean tuning condenser axle ground wipers and treat with DeOxit D100. This is absolutely necessary for best FM performance. _Perform full Dual Sweep alignment of FM RF, IF, and discriminator alignment using Sound Technology 1000A generator. Replace original 1uf 350v electrolytic with Nichicon polypropylene type. Also modify multiplex triggering circuit for more positive multiplex switching. Fisher 500C’s are known to have multiplex switching issues. This one is working perfectly and has wonderful separation. Select ECC83′s for best FM stereo performance and sound. Install LED lamps to illuminate dial glass. Install new foam behind front panel for proper light diffusion. Complete cosmetic clean up of dial glass, (it’s perfect), front panel (gorgeous) knobs and cosmetics. Oil Walnut case (it’s a beauty, not mint, but very, very nice) clean case aluminum tube cover, also beautiful, no heat stains.. Full bench test followed by a protracted use and listening test. FM, multiplex, phono performance is wonderful. Tech Comments: I have been servicing all brands of audio units, tubed and solid state, as a vocation, not a hobby, for nearly 60 years. I can honestly say that I have worked on hundreds of these receivers. This one has to be one of the nicest in recent memory. It appears to have been little used also. So we decided to “pull out all the stops” in servicing it. Wonderful FM, multiplex working as nicely as you will find, audio performance to die for. This one is a total winner, the front. Panel is near mint (most would describe it AS mint) it’s really stunning. You just don’t find them like this… What a great example of vintage tube audio! Tuning range: FM, MW. Power output: 30 watts per channel into 8? Frequency response: 25Hz to 25kHz. Total harmonic distortion: 0.7%. Input sensitivity: 3.3mV (MM), 230mV (line). Signal to noise ratio: 80dB (line). This is quality American made hardware made before Lafayette went Japanese sourced. It features high-end audio design cues including output transformers heavy on the iron, four EL86 power output tubes rated 50 Watts from two channels, two 7199 tube gain stages and phase splitter, 12AX7 pre-amplifier stages, and a hum-free DC filament supply. This particular’Made In USA tube stereo amplifier was found unmodified from from its original design but badly in need of repair. An experienced electronic engineer repaired and corrected the electrical faults and replaced the defective circuit elements. This included replacing all electrolytic capacitors and critical high voltage coupling tone capacitors plus other out of tolerance components. All tubes were tested and the weak and defective ones were replaced. The balance and quiescent plate current for each of the push-pull outputs was then adjusted according to factory specs. All switches were cleaned with Deoxit D5 and pots cleaned and lubricated with Deoxit F5. Some panel knobs were replaced. A new power cord was installed with a polarized plug. The chassis, case and cover were dusted and cleaned to remove years of dirt and grime as best as possible and the front panel is amazingly crisp and markings brilliant considering it is nearly 65 years old. All this resulted in a Stereo amplifier that delivers great tube performance. The warm glow of the tube filaments and neon pilot lamp conjure thoughts of nostalgia and the sound is pure sonic joy. And don’t you just love the retro angled feet. It is ready to be your daily listen for hopefully another 65 years. Copy of original Lafayette Electronics User Instructions will be included. Input Selector for Aux, Tuner, Phono (mag or ceramic cartridge), Tape Head (with a Tape output jack on chassis). Bass and treble tone controls for left and right channels. Volume/Balance control with clutch to adjust each channel separately or together. Separation control from full stereo to full mono. Switches for “A Amplifier” and “B Amplifier” allow you to select Normal Stereo, Reverse Stereo, or Mono. Switch for “Loudness”. Switch for “Phase” normal or reverse speaker connections (one channel). A “Bridged Output” jack is on the rear panel that can possibly be used with a powered. Speaker connections can be 4, 8, or 16 OHMS for left and right channel. Tube complement : 4 – EL86 (Lafayette, RCA branded), 2 – 7199 (Amperex, RCA branded), 3 – 12AX7 (RCA, TEN, Knight branded). Rectification: 3 – Silicon Diodes. Chassis mounted power supply fuse. At +/- 0.5 db. 77 db below rated output. Were not measured on this unit so not guarantied. Please review all photos to judge the condition of the amplifier as there is some minor pitting of the chassis and some wear to the cover. You will receive a fully functional Stereo amplifier.
