1962 Fender Tremolux Vintage Blonde Brownface Piggyback Tube Amp with Oxford 10s

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Tremolux in excellent condition, complete with the original 2×10 speaker cabinet and a pair of factory spec Oxford 10K5 speakers. This amp boasts the sweetness, tonal range, and harmonic clarity that characterizes the Fender Brownface amps, and is powered by a pair of freshly biased vintage General Electric 6L6 power tubes. The tone is pure, dynamic Fender clean sparkle until around 4 on the Volume dial where the amp begins to get just a touch of overdrive on the notes before cascading into full tube saturation when you dime it out. The bias based tremolo circuit has an incredibly deep pulse and the EQ controls have a positively huge sweep. The circuit is very original and serviced strictly as necessary to ensure optimal performance. The original Schumacher output transformer and choke are intact with’62 date codes, while the power transformer is a modern premium replacement courtesy of Mercury Magnetics. All of the stock blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, along with the full compliment of Stackpole and CTS pots, with visible date codes from the 7th week of’62. The power supply has been professionally recapped with top notch Sprague Atom filter caps, and Sprague bypass caps have been installed in the preamp as well, keeping everything operating within original factory spec. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tube compliment includes a matched pair of vintage General Electric USA-made 6L6s, along with a Mesa-branded GZ34 rectifier and a combination of new and vintage valves in the preamp. Inside the speaker cabinet, the original tube chart is mostly intact. The cabinet is loaded with a pair of reissue Oxford 10K5 gold frame ceramic magnet speakers which have the correct look and tonal properties, paring very well with the Tremolux circuit and output capability. Both speakers have viable cones and clean frames. While the speaker cabinet retains its original rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth, the head cosmetics have been meticulously restored to match, courtesy of Rodgers Amplification. Larry Rodgers used the correct tolex and grillcloth patterns and application techniques, right down to the correct style staples. The new tolex and grillcloth on the head were then carefully aged (in color, not condition) to match the original grill and tolex on the cabinet. The original wheat grill on the cabinet shows light wear and one notable snag near the center, but no other notable wear. The chassis itself is quite clean, and there are two small silver plugs in the back from previously removed mods. The original faceplate is fitted with a compliment of new cream barren knobs, and the hardware includes original nickel corners, sphinx glides, patent pending tilt-back legs, and chassis straps, with a pair of modern brown “dogbone” handles. 1967 Fender Bassman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp 2x12 AB165 Circuit

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp features a well-maintained and very original circuit, with stock transformers and a fresh recap of the power supply. The AB165 circuit delivers clarity, warmth, and headroom, and this Bassman excels at sweet and articulate Fender clean tones with the distinctive punch of the accompanying 2×12 closed-back cabinet design. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. The AB165 circuit retains all of the original Schumacher transformers which date to late’66. The stock CTS pots date to early 1966 as well, while the chassis stamp puts the amp’s manufacture at early’67. The preamp retains the full compliment of original blue molded Ajax caps, as well as a few new smaller bypass and bias caps to ensure optimal operation. The power amp has also been professionally recapped with top-tier F&T capacitors, and the power cable changed to a modern three-prong. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “QD” date stamp which translates to April of 1967. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Fender-branded 12 drivers including one Oxford and one Utah made speaker with nearly identical black frames and original blue foil Fender labels on the ceramic magnets. The speakers deliver a bold and smooth sound with ideal punch and top end detail without being overly bright. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are some expected small scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, but no serious wear of any kind, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of localized patina and light surface rust on the tilt-back legs and bottom corners of the cabinet, but that’s about the extent of any wear. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with Oxford 12T6 speakers in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is a rare transitional model with a larger cabinet meant to be oriented vertically, yet still smaller than the Silverface cabinets seen by’68. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones, and the increased cabinet size boosts the low end response. The AB165 circuit retains all of the original Schumacher transformers which all date to 1967 along with the chassis stamp, while the CTS pots date back to’66. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the virtually untouched preamp, while the bias cap and main filter caps have been freshly replaced with top tier Spragues to guarantee decades of future, trouble-free performance. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed too. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is clean and intact with a “QF” date stamp which translates to June of 1967. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage, factory-spec Oxford 12T6 speakers which date to’72, and these 12 drivers are a perfect compliment for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well-balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The frames are near mint, the original blue foil Fender labels are present, and both speakers have their original cones. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are only a few small scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. 1964 Fender Bassman 6G6B Blonde Brownface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp Oxford 12M6

Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bassman in near mint, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. The last iteration of the 6G6-B Bassman circuit, this Brownface Bassman features original smooth blonde tolex, gold sparkle grillcloth and a black faceplate with cream barrel knobs (although the circuit is still of the earlier Brownface design). 100% original aside from new main filter caps and grid resistors, the amp is loaded with a full compliment of ostensibly original tubes, with a matched pair of gray plate 6L6GCs with very low hours. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge range and after around 5 on the volume dial the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive with smooth compression that enhances note attack. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat the Bassman for a tone that bridges the gap between the warmth and nuance of the Brownface circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Blackface line. The chassis shines like new and the preamp is virtually untouched, with all of the original blue Ajax tone caps, carbon comp resistors, cloth-covered wire, and Stackpole pots that date to late’63. All of the original Schumacher transformers are intact with very clean bells, dating between late’63 and the first weeks of 1964. New filter caps have been sleeved into the original wrappers, providing a clean, original look and guaranteeing optimal performance. The tube chart is fully intact on crisp, unfaded paper, with a bold “ND” date stamp which translates to April of’64. The speaker cabinet had likely never been opened prior to the photos taken for this listing, with all of the original fiberglass baffling intact, as well as a pair of near mint Oxford 12M6 speakers with early’64 date codes on the black frames. The wiring inside the cab is untouched, and both speakers retain their original cones. Cosmetically, this is the cleanest 6G6-B Bassman we’ve ever had in the shop, and both the head and cabinet retain their original transitional smooth blonde tolex and gold sparkle grillcloth, a combination only seen for a matter of months in early’64. Aside from a few light scuffs on the edges of the speaker cab, there’s virtually no wear to report. All of the original hardware is intact and is positively gleaming, including the tilt-back chrome legs, piggyback clip bars and thumbscrews, logos, and nickel corners. This is a no-excuses, collector-grade 6G6-B Bassman loaded with a full compliment of original tubes, stock speakers, and an extremely original circuit. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 1965 Fender Bassman Blackface Piggyback Vintage Tube Amp Head & 2x12 Cab, AA165

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and loaded with a compliment of modern valves. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. This amp is one of few to retain the original AA165 guts! The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to early 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. Both the preamp and power amp have been thoroughly maintained, with new Sprague Atom main filter caps and smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Utah 12 speakers. These speakers are detailed, clear, and quite punchy, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. Tested against vintage pairs of Oxfords and Jensens, these Utahs were a surprise favorite, and the original black frames are quite clean, retaining the blue foil Fender labels on the magnets. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logos. The original faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of patina on the hardware, and some expected scuffs and minor wear around the edges of the enclosures, but as the photos show, this Bassman presents very well and wound look great in a studio collection. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 1967 Fender Showman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp Tone Ring Cab JBL D140F

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet. The Showman was Fender’s flagship tube amp in’67, and the Blackface circuit delivers incredible clean power and headroom, with a sweet sounding, versatile preamp. This particular Showman boasts a matched quad of Groove Tubes 6L6 power tubes and has just been given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. From full, tight bass to Fender sparkle and chime on the top end, this is an extremely tonally balanced amp, with plenty of mids on tap as well and strong tremolo. One very unique and desirable feature of the Showman is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This large 1×15 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone with a stock JBL D140F speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This elegant design makes the Showman cab work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. Plus it just looks so darn impressive! The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D140F sounds incredible with a professional recone. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced, with new filter caps in the power supply and smaller bypass and bias caps in the preamp. The preamp features new Sprague Orange Drop caps as well, and a three-prong cable has been installed. The original Schumacher output transformer and choke is present and date to 1966, while the power transformer is a genuine vintage Fender replacement that dates to 1972. The tube chart is complete and intact with a clear “QD” date stamp, which translates to April of 1967, while the original CTS pots date back to the 38th week of’66. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex which is in great shape overall, showing only minor scuffs and light wear along the edges of the head enclosure, while the speaker cab is remarkably clean. While the cab retains its original silver sparkle grillcloth, the head has had a vintage piece of genuine Fender grillcloth installed with similar tint to the cloth so that the head and cab are a perfect match. All of the hardware is intact as well including chrome tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. 1965 Fender Tremolux Blackface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp 2x10 AB763, FEIC

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Tremolux in excellent condition and in good working order. This vintage Blackface Tremolux is from production run #2 as noted on the tube chart and has a “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate indicative of the very first “Pre-CBS” Blackface amps. The circuit has been serviced and the amp boasts a pair of vintage 6L6GC power tubes. The tone is stunning and quintessential Blackface Fender, with the perfect amount of clean headroom before the amp gives in to slightly compressed tube overdrive around 5 on the volume dial. The vibrato has a strong pulse to it as well and each channel has a similar voicing, although the Normal channel has just a touch more low end and midrange punch. The circuit retains all of the original Schumacher (Fender’s transformer supplier in the Blackface era) output transformer and choke which date to mid’65. The power transformer is a vintage Schumacher replacement which has a Fender part number and dates to 1967. The preamp features a combination of original blue molded Ajax capacitors and modern, high quality Sprague Orange Drops. The power amp has been professionally recapped as well. The power tubes are a matched pair of vintage 6L6s, and the preamp tubes are a mixture of newer and vintage valves. The stock CTS pots and chassis stamp date to 1965. The tube chart is intact with only light wear and a clean “OI” date stamp, which translates to September of 1965. The speaker cab boasts a pair of vintage correct Oxford 10L6 ceramic speakers. These speakers have black frames, original blue Fender foil labels, and original cones. Cosmetically, the amp retains the original silver sparkle grillcloth and smooth black tolex. The head is particularly clean with a minty faceplate and stock knobs. The nickel hardware shows moderate patina, with the original pat. Pending tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars and chrome thumb screws. The grillcloth on both the head and cab are uniformly aged as well. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with vintage Jensen C12N speakers in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and complete with fresh JJ 6L6 power tubes. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. The majority of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the preamp and the circuit has been thoroughly maintained with new main filter caps and a few smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “OG” date stamp which translates to July of 1965. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Jensen C12N speakers, and these 12 drivers are arguably the most desirable speakers for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The dark greenish blue frames are quite clean, and the speakers date to early 1964. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex. A new solid pine baffle has been installed (superior in both tone and reliability over the stock MDF baffle) and new silver sparkle grillcloth has been installed on both the head and cab and appropriately aged. Most of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, and sphinx glides (feet). Both Fender logos are modern replacements.
