Vintage Early 70′s Ampeg VT22 V4 Tube Amplifier Head POWERS ON PARTS/REPAIR – 3 of the 4 7027′s light up, the 6k11 is missing as shown – I heard a slight hum through the speaker cabinet when I hooked it up but no sound from the guitar – needs repaired. That’s all I know. Front panel is pretty nice after looking at others of similar age. Great project for restoration. These are rare LOUD amps! Up for sale, a 1957 Fender Princeton in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This narrow panel tweed amp has absolutely stunning and virtually un-ambered original tweed, and is one of the more impressive golden-age Fender amps to come through our shop of late, complete with the original Victoria Luggage brown canvas cover. With its narrow panel configuration, this Princeton is considered the “big box” version, with a cab that’s far larger than the single 8 alnico speaker requires, and the resulting sound is deceptively round and rich for the relatively small speaker size. The circuit couldn’t be more simple and pure, with single Volume and Tone knobs and a Class A circuit design, powered by a single 6V6 power tube. The tone is articulate, dynamic and commanding, with the sizzle and churning overdrive of a Champ, but with more tonal range and fuller low end. The top end response is just right, and the amp doesn’t get too trebly, making the tone control quite usable for dialing in exactly as much zing and snap as you desire. The circuit is very original and only serviced as necessary for optimal functionality, retaining the original Triad transformers. The original Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and yellow Astron capacitors are intact, with the pots dating to the 41st week of 1956. The power supply caps and smaller electrolytics have been replaced with high quality modern Spragues. The tubes are all vintage valves with a “coke bottle” Westinghouse 6V6, Phillips 5Y3 rectifier, and UK preamp tube of indeterminate origin. The speaker is an era-correct Oxford 8 driver which has been professionally reconed and dates to’59 with a very clean gray frame and stock wiring harness with RCA end. The tube chart is notable for its well-preserved condition, with perfect corners, handwritten serial number, and “GG” date stamp which translates to July of 1957. There is barely any ambering of the original tweed, with only a few minor scuffs on the bottom corners. The faceplate is extremely clean, with all of the white silkscreened font, shiny chrome, and a pair of original chicken head knobs. This amp is a true rarity given its condition, and this particular example has been carefully tested and inspected to ensure originality and ideal functionality. The original brown canvas Victoria Luggage cover is included. The cover has some loose stitching and isolated spots of missing trim, but still presents well. I’m happy to be listing a Beautiful Pair of Vintage Mcintosh MC60, 60 Watt Mono Block Tube Power Amplifiers that come from a relative who was an avid audiophile. The amplifiers have been in their home for the last 50 years or so. Very nice original condition and still sound amazing! That beautiful Vintage Mcintosh tube sound- warm, bold and clear. Classics among Vintage Hi-Fi Collectors. Units underwent a thorough testing by a highly experienced tech in the NYC area very familiar with Vintage Audiophile Tube Equipment. Voltage was brought up very slowly using a Variac to protect the capacitors. As you can see from the interior photos, both units are very clean, unmolested and contain the original components,’Bumble Bee’, Sprague Black Beauty capacitors etc. Units are in excellent cosmetic and working condition. Serial no’s: 5F405, 5F541. As you can see from the photos, units are very clean. The controls are smooth and noise free; all the terminals are sound. Original screening letters are nearly perfect on both units. McIntosh Logo is perfect on both units. Chrome is very clean with only some minor imperfections. McIntosh side label perfect on both units. A few scratches/chips on transformers and on one side panel – see closeup photos. The blotches/smudges visible on capacitor cans in photos are removable with a bit of cleaning solution. Amps have been cleaned up for photos. A little polish will really make them glow! Light scratches/blemishes on one transformer and a bit on one side panel ; chrome shows slight pitting near transformer and a bit near rectifier tube section. Bottom panel has scratches – see closeup photos. A couple of small scratches on one transformer. Chrome has only a few very small blemishes. Tech replaced part M1 Selenium Rectifier, R35 Resistor on left unit ser. New, Matched/Burned In Quad of Genalex Gold Lion KT88/6550 Tubes. Remaining Tubes are Vintage ca. 60s and 70s – All test Good, most test Strong. RCA Black Plate 5U4 GB (GA) (4). RCA 12Ax7 (3) – 2 date codes show CG, FZ. RCA + GE 12BH7A. Over all, this Pair of Mcintosh MC60 Amplifiers are in very nice original condition, look good together and still sound amazing! As these are vintage power amps, over 50 years old, after your initial testing, I cannot make any other claims as to how long they may continue to function. Once you decide to put units into long term use, a qualified technician should replace any parts that would warrant replacement. And your satisfaction is my top priority. Super 60′s sounding. A tech recently went through it, and replaced all the caps. It’s all original, along with the original 1961 Jensen speaker in it. Some of the tubes may not be original though, due to age. It also has the original built in foot switch. The power cable looks to be original. The tremolo is working well. The only issue that I know of, is that you go to use the foot switch to turn the tremolo off, the tremolo doesn’t go all the way off, it just lowers the tremolo effect. So you have to turn the depth knob all the way off if you don’t want the tremolo effect. Showing it’s age. Control panel has rust, wear on corners, and a few cigarette burns.
