Vintage Tube Amp

1975 Music Man HD-130. Electric Guitar Amplifier Head. It had been used quite a bit by a previous owner who painted some hardware and Tolex black, red on the handle ends, and blue on the logo and badges. The amp was still in good shape and had the original giant rubber sliders and all 8 corners so I bought it and added it right to my collection in the early 1990′s. There is a modification of two holes drilled into back of the chassis in-between the back plates; we cannot figure out what they were for. (Please see photos) This amp comes with it’s original cover and reverb tank. Recently (Nov 2024) I took it to my current amp tech and he replaced the filter caps, added 4 new 1/2 longer chassis mounting bolts, lubricated the pots and switches, powered it for an hour and checked operation. He says it’s now in great shape and is very loud. This is a 130 watt amp. Serial # B 000472. Cabinet Yellow Marker Stamp. (13th week of 1975). (38th week of 1973). (14th week of 1975). It might serve the buyers purpose to bring up the power slowly with a variac since these used amp heads are over 50 years old and have not been used for a few decades. Our amp tech has only replaced the needed parts -(filter caps & power cords as specified) to just get them turned on and running for an hour. Please see a skilled amp tech before extended use. The operation of the amps requires that they be regularly serviced for optimal performance. Please remember these are vintage pieces, we cannot guarantee that they will not need service or more parts in their future; only some obvious parts were changed to get it working. Most of the parts are still the original old parts remaining which will be stated in our listings. Please take the time to read about this guitar amplifier and message me with any further questions: this is old and showing signs of cosmetic wear, commensurate with age. The cabinet has a few cracks seen (though it remains in one piece), and the green pearlized wrap has chipped in some places. The power cord is solid, but the sheathing on the braided wires leading to/closest to the speaker have become frail over the years and are now wrapped in electrical tape. One of the dial knobs are missing, but knob turns as it should. The unit powers on and tubes light up, however, I’m not getting any sound from the speaker, but I do hear static. May be something super simple like a grounding issue, in which case, my loss is your gain. If no takers, I’ll be taking the amp to a tech for a refresh and relist once working fully. This unit does come with the back cover plate, a lot of times when these show up on the market the back cover is missing, likely in part due to them not staying on very well, which this one doesn’t, but it is included!
