Up for sale, a 1978 Marshall JMP 2204 Master Model 50w Mk II Lead vintage tube amplifier head, freshly serviced and sporting the original fawn tolex. Produced in the proverbial “sweet spot” for late’70s Master Model JMPs, this 2204 features cascading preamp gain and the kind of rich, muscly, ripping textures synonymous with AC/DC’s renaissance. At 50 watts, the amp has plenty of power and crunch, and the Master Volume is an infinitely usable tool for creating natural sounding drive at a variety of volumes. Conversely, turning the Master to 10 and dialing in the Preamp Volume to taste yields more Plexi-like textures. The EL-34 power tubes are Marshall’s signature valve of choice and have ample sizzle and headroom, and this amp is fitted with a brand new properly biased pair from Electro Harmonix. As the back panel of the amp can attest, numerous mods were removed and cleanly plugged. The chart on the chassis has a handwritten January, 1978 test date. The chassis itself is quite clean, with a faceplate that retains all of the original black silkscreen lettering and a full compliment of original knobs. The original fawn tolex shows plenty of scuffs and minor tears, yet the large Marshall logo on the face of the amp is fully intact. All of the original piping is present too, along with the original plastic corners and feet. A new vintage-spec handle has been installed. Up for sale, a 1984 Marshall JCM800 model 2203 “Mk II Master Model 100″ vintage tube amp head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the first Marshalls to feature the pre-phase inverter Master Volume circuit, this early vertical input JCM800 allows the preamp to saturate and deliver searing crunch at club-friendly volumes. Of course the amp really excels when you dial up both the preamp gain and volume for a thick crunch. The circuit is clean and stock, with original Drake transformers. The chart on the chassis has a handwritten 3-29-84 test date. The amp features a new quad of freshly biased EL34 power tubes, and a trio of modern preamp tubes as well. The chassis itself shows some oxidation and light surface wear, while the gold faceplate is quite clean with all original knobs intact. There is modest wear through the black silkscreen graphics, particularly above the knobs and adjacent to the inputs. An extremely rare iteration, this Marshall was originally imported to Japan. Curiously, the amp was never wired for anything but USA 120v power, and the amp has recently been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable (the polarity switch on the rear panel has been disconnected). The original tolex shows only a few small tears and nicks on the back edges of the enclosure, and the original large Marshall logo is fully intact. Marshall UK Vintage Modern 2466 – 100 Watt Tube Guitar Amp. This amp is considered one of the best Marshall’s evermade, flexible and versatile for any Marshall tone aficionado. It has Marshall 12AX7 Tubes/ Valves and Tube Amp Doctor branded KT66. The amp is solid made and built like a tank to easily take road or gigs abuse. Unlike some other Marshall VM amps, this amp doesn’t have that problem with intermittent Purple LED and the light glows perfect. Some normal wear in Purple Tolex but overall in Excellent Shape! Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 Tube Amp Head – PURPLE TOLEX. The Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 Tube Amp Head is an all-valve amplifier with a choice of two dynamic ranges selectable by footswitch. The Low range equates equates to the performance you would come to expect from a stock vintage Marshall amplifier in terms of tone and available gain. The High range adds an extra preamp valve into the signal path, facilitating those classic hard rock tones of the seventies. Add to this the ability to dynamically interface with your instrument’s Volume and Tone controls and the experience translates into a truly expressive and organic feel in performance. Two frequency selective Pre-amp Volumes (Gains) – Body and Detail – facilitate greater flexibility in tone shaping for individual guitars and styles while the power amplifier is heavily influenced by the first Marshall amplifiers to be produced, with four KT66 output valves yielding that substantial, fat and smooth tone. A MID Boost switch on the front panel fattens the tone even more while a traditional Marshall tone control circuit enables fine tuning of your sound. A master volume has been included in order to practically manage the output levels at all venues. This is implemented after the phase splitter in order to fully exploit maximum preamp drive when the master is turned down low. A reverb level control mixes the on board plate reverb with the direct signal to whatever degree the player chooses. The reverb can be toggled on and off via the footswitch. Finally, a series FX loop is provided for those players who wish to use outboard effects to further enhance their sound. Loop levels of 10dB and +4dB can be controlled via a rear panel switch as well as the option to completely bypass this feature if it is not required. The cosmetics are also a carefully crafted hybrid of old and new styles made even more dramatic by the deep purple vinyl that covers the entire series. Acquired from the private collection of esteemed amp builder Mike Soldano, this 2203 chassis has been fitted into a vintage 50w Marshall head cabinet. Featuring original custom color red tolex on both the head and speaker box, this visually and sonically stunning Marshall is dialed in to perfection with a quad of matched vintage Sylvania EL34 power tubes. One of the first Marshalls to feature the pre-phase inverter Master Volume circuit, this design allows the preamp to saturate and deliver searing crunch at club-friendly volumes. Of course the amp really excels when you dial up both the preamp gain and volume for a thick crunch synonymous with early AC/DC records. The circuit is clean and stock, with original Drake transformers. The chart on the chassis has a handwritten October, 1977 test date. In addition to the Sylvania power tubes, the amp features a combination of modern and vintage preamp valves. The chassis itself is remarkably clean, with a near flawless faceplate and all original knobs intact. The speaker cabinet is loaded with the original Celestion G12M 25 watt Black Back quad, and the speakers each have clean “HL9″ date stamps on the frames and “1777″ stamped original cones. The original red elephant tolex is intact on both the head and cab, with the original pair of large plastic Marshall logos as well as black plastic corners and handles. All of the original piping is intact, along with the original sprung amp feet. Naturally the head and cab have some scuffs and minor tears around the enclosure edges, but overall this set is particularly well-kept. The original back panel for the 50w head enclosure is also included, although it no longer mounts, given the size of the 100w chassis currently in the head box.
