Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Deluxe tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured in the brief Brownface Pre-CBS era, this amp has a very original 6G3 circuit, only serviced as needed for optimal performance. Providing a perfect middle ground between the warmth and dynamic range of the Tweed amps that preceded it and the clarity and chime of the Blackface amps that would be introduced a couple years later, this Deluxe offers everything from rich and mellow tonalities to twangy and crystalline bite at the turn of a knob. The bias based tremolo circuit is deep and throbbing, with a very smooth waveform and a tone that has an almost three-dimensional quality. It’s truly one of the best examples of this classic Fender effect. The circuit features the original Schumacher transformers which date to the 36th and 38th weeks of’62, with a closely matched chassis stamp from the 49th week of 1962. The preamp is virtually untouched save for a one new bias capacitor sleeved in their original brown Astron wrapper, and all of the original Stackpole pots are intact too. The preamp features the full compliment of original blue molded Ajax tone caps, essential to the sweet, musical character of Fender’s golden age circuits. The power supply has also been professionally recapped, and the new caps have been neatly sleeved in the original Astron brown wrappers. The tube compliment includes a brand new matched pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6s, an NOS rectifier, and modern valves in the preamp as well from the likes of Groove Tubes and Sovtek. The stock Oxford 12K5 speaker is intact with a minty frame and date code from the 32nd week of 1962, and the speaker has been professionally reconed. Inside the cab, the original tube chart is mostly intact too. Cosmetically, this amp is remarkably clean, with original rough brown tolex, wheat grillcloth, and even the stock leather handle. The original chassis straps, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet) are also intact, and the faceplate is very clean, retaining its full compliment of brown barrel knobs. Widely considered to be one of the greatest tube amps of all time, this Deluxe Reverb has a very original circuit that has been freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. Stocked with new properly-biased EH 6V6 power tubes and a full compliment of new JJ preamp tubes, this Deluxe delivers the shimmering, balanced clean tone that has made these amps a mainstay in studios and on stages for decades. The amp has a clear and dynamic sound, delivering sparkling cleans that are a great effects pedal platform. The amp starts to saturate with smooth tube overdrive after about 5 on the volume dial, cascading into rich, lightly compressed crunch as you push the volume to 10. The Reverb is very lush with a long decay, and the tremolo has a strong pulse with an almost three-dimensional quality to the effect when you increase the intensity. The circuit is very original, with all of the stock Schumacher-made transformers (Fender’s primary transformer supplier in the Blackface era) dating to late 1965. The preamp is loaded with the full compliment of the original blue Ajax molded capacitors, a key ingredient in the dynamic, musical tone of Fender’s Blackface amps, and all of the original CTS pots are intact as well, with date codes from 1965. The power amp has been professionally recapped with F&Ts, and the preamp features a new bias cap and smaller bypass caps to ensure the amp is operating within original factory spec. All new caps have been carefully sleeved in their original Minimite wrappers for a flawless vintage look. A three-prong power cable has been installed as well. The original Oxford 12K5-6 12 speaker is intact, freshly reconed and a very rare speaker, used only in the Deluxe Reverb. The speaker has a clean black frame, Fender blue foil sticker on the magnet, and 1966 date stamp on the frame. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is mostly intact too. Cosmetically, the amp is very original, with stock smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The amp was at one time fitted with tilt-back legs, and the small mounting holes for this hardware have been cleanly doweled on the sides of the cabinet. The lower back panel is original, while the top panel is a modern factory-spec replacement. All of the original hardware is present including the chassis straps, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), corners, and raised Fender logo on the baffle. The original faceplate also shows sparingly little wear with bold graphics and stock witch hat knobs. The original two-button footswitch is included. The tube compliment includes a vintage pair of matched General Electric 6V6 power tubes, with an Amperex 5AR4 rectifier and a combination of vintage and modern valves in the preamp. The stock Oxford 12K5 speaker is intact with a minty frame and date code from the 4th week of 1962, also retaining the exceedingly rare brown metal bell cover for the magnet and Fender foil sticker. The speaker has also just been professionally reconed. Inside the cab, the original tube chart is fully intact too, with an “LE” date stamp that translates to May of 1962. Cosmetically, this amp is remarkably clean, with original rough brown tolex and wheat grillcloth. A bevy of original blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp (an essential part of the Blackface sound), and all of the original CTS pots are intact as well, dating to mid’64. The original Schumacher transformers date between the 31st and 33rd weeks of’64. The power supply has been professionally recapped, and the smaller bias and bypass caps in the preamp have been replaced as well, sleeved in their original hollowed out Astron wrappers. A three-prong cable has been installed too. The tube chart is present, with an “NI” date code which translates to September of 1964. The speaker is the original Oxford 12K5-6 with a clean black frame and date code from the 39th week of’64. One of Fender’s (and Oxford’s) rarest speakers, the 12K5-6 was only used in the Deluxe Reverb and this speaker has been recently reconed. Cosmetically, the amp is complete with the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The grillcloth has aged moderately since’64 and the Blackface faceplate shows very little wear with all of the black witch hat knobs intact. The tolex shows some wear at the corners corners along with some requisite stray nicks and scuffs, and overall this amp presents well. All of the original hardware including the corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet) and logo is present. The original two-button footswitch is included. Cosmetically, the amp is complete with the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The grillcloth has aged moderately since’65 and the Blackface faceplate shows very little wear with all of the black witch hat knobs intact. The tolex shows some wear at the corners corners along with some requisite stray nicks and scuffs and a single cigarette burn on the top, and overall this amp presents well. A logo was added to the grill and subsequently removed, showing a very faint outline of its placement, and an extra set of feet was installed on the bottom of the enclosure. All of the original hardware including the corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet) and logo is present. A modern two-button footswitch is included.
