Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Vibroverb in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. An extremely original and stunningly clean example of Fender’s rarest and most desirable Blackface amp, the Vibroverb was only made in the Pre-CBS Fender era, lasting from late-1963 through’64. This is one of the very first Vibroverbs made, with an extremely low A003XX serial number, Production Run #1 stamp on the tube chart, transformers dating between Fall 1962 and Summer’63, and even a brown two-button footswitch, an exceedingly rare accessory only officially offered with the Brownface 2×10 Vibroverbs produced a few months before this Blackface model began production. Perhaps best known for its association with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Vibroverb delivers 40 tube watts via a pair of 6L6 power tubes and a JBL D130F speaker. The tone is clear and powerful, with dynamic Fender cleans that sparkle and twang. The highly efficient JBL speaker keeps things clean and tight, with very little speaker cone distortion even at high volumes, letting the light compression and velvety tube overdrive of the circuit be heard with stunning clarity when you push the amp near 10 on the volume dial. The Reverb has plenty of splash and dimension with a long decay, and the Vibrato (technically tremolo) has a strong, smooth pulse. The circuit is extremely clean and stock, with all of the original Schumacher-made transformers intact. The rare open bell output transformer dates to the 42nd week of’62, while the choke and power transformer date to the 7th and 27th weeks of’63 respectively. Visible date codes on the Stackpole pots date to the 18th week of’63. The preamp retains its full compliment of original blue molded Ajax caps, a key ingredient of the sweet, musical sound of Fender’s Blackface circuits. The power supply features a professional recap of the main filters with F&T caps, and the smaller bypass caps in the preamp have been upgraded as well, along with the bias cap and pot. The original two-prong gray power cable is still intact. The tubes consist of a modern pair of Sovtek 5881 (6L6) power tubes, with a genuine vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier and a host of modern and vintage valves in the preamp including a few RCAs. The tube chart is intact and very clean, with crisp corners and an “MK” date stamp for November of 1963. The original JBL D130F speaker has a recone with a WHF cone and proper aluminum dust cap, and the speaker has a full, robust sound with no voice coil rub and incredible articulation. Cosmetically, this amp is an absolute stunner which has likely lived its life in the studio, due to the absence of any notable cosmetic wear. The stock smooth black tolex is exceedingly clean, and the original silver sparkle grillcloth has only aged sparingly, with lots of sparkle left in the thread. The original hardware is all intact and clean, with only the faintest patina on a couple of the corners and on the original Pat. This is a collector-grade and well maintained vintage Fender Vibroverb, ideal for the stage, studio and discerning player! The original brown two-button Reverb/Vibrato footswitch is included. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet and original JBL D130F speaker. The amp boasts a full compliment of modern valves, including a quad of properly biased Ruby 6L6s, and this Showman has a sound that is powerful, clear, and sparkling. As Fender’s flagship amp boasting a whopping 85 watts of all tube power, the Showman is a real powerhouse for guitar, bass, or your favorite Fender Rhodes or combo organ. The low end is ample and thick, and the amp has plenty of headroom and efficient clean power until about 6-7 on the Volume knob where things start to compress and overdrive. Fresh back from our techs and ready for another half century, this Showman is dialed in for stage and studio use. One very unique and desirable feature of the Showman is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This large 1×15 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone with a stock JBL D130F speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This elegant design makes the Showman cab work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. Plus it just looks so impressive! The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D130F sounds incredible with a professional recone. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced and is very original, with a virtually untouched preamp save for a few small electrolytics. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are intact with a sweet, musical tone that’s a hallmark of the Blackface sound. The original power transformer is intact, dating to the 18th week of’65, while the output transformer and choke are genuine vintage Fender transformers substituted later in the amp’s life and dating to 1970. Other important date codes include the CTS pots, with visible date codes from the 12th week of’65. The power supply has also been professionally recapped, and the tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet too, with an “OE” date stamp that translates to May of 1965. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the hardware is intact (with the exception of new back panel screws on the cabinet), including chrome tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. The amp shows some nicks and scuffs around the edges of the enclosure, and the grill on the head and cabinet has aged uniformly. The original one-button footswitch to engage the Tremolo is included. Ampeg B-15N in good working condition. New JJ 6L6 Final tubes, all other test good. There is a modification with the top. The clips where removed and 2 metal brackets where installed the cabinet and thumbscrews hold the top onto the cabinet. There is also 2 metal strips riveted to the back, not sure why there are there, both where like that when I got it 3 years ago. The speaker code shows an Eminence 15 speaker with a date code of’78. Up for sale, a 1964 Ampeg B-15N “Flip-Top” Portaflex tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order, freshly serviced and ready for studio use. This clean B-15N is an early example with gleaming chrome, blue diamond tolex, a full set of vintage USA-made tubes, and stock CTS 15 speaker. As the amp that defined the Motown bass sound and a must-have for studios worldwide, the B-15N is the undisputed king of vintage bass tone, with a thick, thumpy sound that is round, detailed, and versatile, bringing out the best in your instrument’s natural tonal characteristics. The two channels each have a unique voice, with Channel One being a bit more mellow and smooth, while Channel Two has a touch more grit and bite, also making it an excellent choice for guitar (diming this channel out delivers a particularly nice overdriven roar with a humbucker or P-90 equipped instrument). Just given a checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this B-15N is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit features all of the original capacitors and CTS pots which date to the 21st week of 1964. The stock output transformer is intact, with a genuine vintage power transformer furnished by Fliptops. Fitted between the transformers, a new plexiglass Ampeg badge has been installed, illuminating as it should when the amp powers on. A new multi-pin connection between the head and cab has been installed, and the amp retains the original two-prong power cable. The speaker is the original CTS 15 driver with a clean black frame. This ceramic driver sound clear and powerful, keeping low frequencies rich and focused. The original tube chart is intact inside the cab, with the stamped serial number dating to August of 1964. Cosmetically, this amp is a particularly nice early B-15N, with clean white silkscreen text on the chrome-plated chassis and a full compliment of original knobs. The stock latches are still mounted to the original tray, and the shockmounts which secure the head to the tray are viable. The enclosure shows modest edge wear, particularly on the tray, yet as the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. A new leather handle of the correct style has also been installed. Vintage Ampeg B-15N Portaflex fliptop amp has some cosmetic wear but sounds great. Up for sale, a 1962 Gibson GA77 RVT Vanguard 1×15 tube amp in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Freshly serviced and extremely original and well-kept, this amp is in many ways Gibson’s equivalent of Fender’s Vibroverb. A two-channel affair with a freshly biased pair of 6L6 power tubes and 15 Jensen C15N driver, this Gibson offers smooth, robust clean tones with both warmth and sparkling top end clarity. Pushing the amp hard at higher volumes delivers a touch of compression and cascades into overdrive, with plenty of ambient splash provided by the spring reverb on Channel Two. The second channel also features a two-knob tremolo with a strong pulse. The trio of original transformers and choke are intact, manufactured by Triwec and Magnetic Components Inc, all dating to 1962. The circuit is hand-wired on a tag board, and the circuit has been fully recapped to ensure optimal functionality and tone. The original pots are intact, along with the full compliment of black reflector caps with red pointers, and the aluminum faceplate retains all of its original silkscreen text. The tube compliment includes a brand new pair of properly biased 6L6 JJ power tubes as well as a host of vintage preamp tubes, many of which are the stock Gibson-branded valves. The speaker is the original Jensen C15N with a clean silver frame, Jensen foil sticker on the magnet cover, and date stamp on the edge of the frame from the 47th week of 1961. The amp retains its original smooth brown tolex and oxblood grillcloth with aluminum trim. The raised plastic Gibson badge is fully intact on the amp’s face, and the stock handle is present too. There’s only light wear on the tolex, primarily on the bottom edge of the cabinet. The original two-button footswitch is included. Up for sale, a 1970 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original trolley and cover. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original 15 Eminence ceramic magnet speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol 6L6GC power tubes. Notable for the addition of Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel not found on earlier iterations, this B-15N has surprising output given its modest power and excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. The original transformers are both present, and the preamp is virtually untouched, with original CTS pots and visible date codes from the 21st week of 1970. Along with the Tung Sol 6L6 power tubs, the amp features a combination of modern and vintage octal preamp tubes as well as a vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier. The stock Eminence speaker has a clean frame and date code from the 13th week of 1970. The cabinet retains the original smooth black tolex, silver sparkle grillcloth, and Ampeg badge. The faceplate retains virtually all of the original blue pinstriping, along with a full compliment of original knobs. Wear on the cabinet is limited to minor scuffs and light edge wear, and all original hardware is included and viable including the shockmounts for the head and original latches.
