Vintage 1962 HH Scott Stereomaster 222C Tube Amplifier – SHOWN WORKING READ. They will be pulled using gloves, and will be labeled as to exactly where they were pulled from so they can be placed back in their original locations. About this unit: When the unit first made it into my hands it was missing all knobs and I was unable to get the unit to power on (which turned out to be just because I didn’t know how). I sent the unit off to my technician a retired E. E and had him give the unit a once over. While he was able to get the unit to power on he wasn’t able to get sound out of it. So he ran some tests and got the unit up and running again (his full notes can be read at the bottom of the listing), in total he. Cleaned the selector switch’s using deoxit, allowing the unit to properly play sound again. Tested all electrolytic capacitors with an ESR meter and found that they were all in good working condition. Tested and confirmed all tubes in the unit were working as intended. Ran the unit under a dummy load at 20WPC for 2 hours to ensure the unit wouldn’t blow itself up. In his testing he found signs the unit had previously been worked on, finding many (but not all) of the ceramic tube capacitors had been replaced with “Orange Drop” caps (see final photo of the unit on the listing). The note from my technician, and a printed copy of the owners manual will be provided with the unit. NO original packaging, manuals, or other accessories included. All of the knobs are missing. Complaint was that it would not power up at all. I found that the tubes did light up, but that indeed, there was no sound. By trying all of the controls, I found that the tape monitor slide switch was intermittent. Treating that switch with DeOxit fixed it. Other tests and observations: I also applied DeOxit to the selector switches. No treatment of any of the pots, which were quiet and felt smooth. Testing the electrolytic capacitors with an ESR meter found that they are all okay, with ESR numbers far lower than the series resistors. Tested the tubes, which were all okay. The 7178 output tubes have no brand visible, but all 4 appear the same. Three of the 12AX7 input tubes are Telefunken, but the fourth is Sylvania. Removed dust with compressed air and mild cleaning of the chassis with a damp cloth. The amplifier was tested powering speakers and a dummy load at up to 20 W/channel, and about 5W/channel for 2 hours. As received, this amplifier was missing all of its knobs. They were replaced with new black bakelite knobs (Davies Molding p/n 1104). The new knobs do not match the originals, but they are clean and functional. They are easily changed if original style ones can be found. Note that there are some signs that this unit has been worked on before, mainly that most, but not all, of the white ceramic tube capacitors have been replaced with Sprague “Orange Drop” caps. Also the bottom cover is fastened by just 4 screws, 5 others are missing.

Vintage Scott 222C integrated tube Amplifier With Metal Cabinet. Unit was powered up slowly with a variac and it played music through all inputs. I did notice once in while I heard some static. Also the selector switch turns stiffly so will probably need lubrication. The bottom plate is not missing. I just removed it for picture taking. Very nice and clean example. 8 of the bulbs are Telefunken brand. This amp still looks very good and works very well. No big scratches or damage. Has been thoroughly tested by a vintage audio technician and everything is working well. All inputs produce clear, powerful, and evenly balanced sound. This listing includes a beautiful vintage H. Scott 222C Stereomaster vacuum tube integrated laboratory amplifier in clean and electrically restored condition. This amplifier was restored approximately 6-months ago by the original owner. Some of the work that was done to this amplifier includes: testing all tubes and replacing any weak tubes, cleaned all controls and switches with DeOxit, replaced bad / out of spec capacitors, replaced any out of spec resistors, all solder joints have been inspected and any loose connections were re-soldered. After the restoration was complete, this amplifier was bench tested and it is in great working / sounding condition. As the photos show, this vintage amplifier is exceptionally clean inside and out and was well cared for and maintained over the years. The entire face still looks fantastic with clear lettering and all four corners are still sharp. All of the knobs are clean and in great shape. The original power cord is in good shape and is not brittle. All of the transformers and the chassis (inside and out) show only minimal wear and no corrosion. Vintage Scott Stereomaster 222C Stereo Tube Amplifier 222-C. Very nice cosmetic and tested working condition! Tubes are all original Telefunken except for GZ34 which is a Sylvania tube. We tested the tubes with Orange VT1000 and also with a recently overhauled Hickock A600 tube tester. All tubes tested strong and very closely matched. After cleaning the pots with Deoxit D5 and also thoroughly cleaning the entire unit inside and out we very slowly powered up the amp using a variac, gradually increasing voltage over a period of several hours. We then tested the amp and sounds very clear with no hum or scratchiness to the controls. Not to say that recapping won’t make it sound better but what you gain from recapping you loose from loosing originality. Also most people are never happy with someone else’s soldering work or choice of caps. The wood case is in nice condition with some marks/patina from use and age. There are a couple of very small chips in the veneer on the bottom of the sides that have been color matches wood filled The front panel looks nice and clean but does have some scratches where someone missed putting headphone plug in the jack. Please look at the pictures closely and judge the condition, size and content of this lot for yourself as our photos are a large portion of our description. Amp works just as it should. Nice and warm Scott sound. Wood case is brand new as I made it myself for this amp. Fits perfect just as it should. Metal top is 14 gauge stainless steel mesh sheet so it is ridiculously strong, sturdy and overbuilt. Wood is 3/4 oak mdf with gunstock finish and two coats of poly satin to match the original period color. Amp comes with full complement of tubes. Russian 6p14p-ev subbed in for 7189 as equivalents. These are highly regarded tubes that will stand up to the higher current compared to el84s. Much of the lettering on the back of the amp is worn off. This amp could use a good cleaning and at some point will prob need cap work. It has always worked perfect for me so I never changed anything. The writing seen in the pics around the tube sockets is not etched into the metal, it is pencil and can be cleaned off. I got the amp this way and just never cleaned it off.
