1963 Ampeg Reverberocket R-12R Vintage Tube Amp Blue Diamond, Jensen C12R, Ftsw

Up for sale, a 1963 Ampeg R-12R Reverberocket in exceptional condition and perfect working order. The amp is complete with the original blue diamond tolex, Jensen C12R speaker, and footswitch, loaded with a bevy of vintage tubes including a matched pair of Hammond 6V6s. Under the oversight of Ampeg founder Everett Hull, Ampeg guitar amps were geared towards Jazz guitarists who wanted clean headroom and zero breakup, but according to former Ampeg employee Ken Fischer (long before starting his own company Trainwreck Amplifiers), there was one model that “slipped through the cracks”, and that was the R-12R Reverberocket. This amp has a fantastically spongy feel with plenty of chewy compression, thanks is large part to the octal preamp tubes (6SN7s and 6SL7s in this case), and picking dynamics are glorious, particularly when the amp is cranked to “edge of breakup” tones. The Reverberocket boasts footswitchable bias-based tremolo, along with onboard reverb (the first amp to do so, predating Fender’s Vibroverb by a year or two), which is thick and lush without sacrificing clarity. The circuit is extremely original, with only a few new Sprague Orange Drop capacitors and a couple 5W resistors in the preamp to keep everything working within original factory spec. The original CTS pots date to the 22nd week of’63, with one modern Alpha pot in the mix as well. Both transformers are original, manufactured for Ampeg by Electrical Windings and both dating to mid-1963. The date stamp on the edge of the original Jensen C12R speaker frame is from the 33rd week of’63, and the speaker has a particularly clean frame and original bell cover with minty Jensen foil sticker. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet with hand-written tube designations and the original stamped serial number from’63. The tube compliment includes mostly vintage valves, with a matched pair of properly biased Hammond 6V6 power tubes. The chrome faceplate is quite clean, with the majority of the original white silkscreened text intact and just a speckling of light surface patina. All of the original knobs are present too. The original Blue Diamond tolex is extremely well-kept, showing only very minor edge wear and one small tear through the material on the lower right corner with a spot of blue marker touchup. The stock metal corners, feet, and raised Ampeg logo are intact, and the handle is original. The original two-button Reverb/Tremolo footswitch is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. Vintage 1960s Hand Wired Tube Guitar Amp Head Akai Conversion like Fender, Vox, Ampeg. Excellent condition, no issues. Listen to samples of the clean and overdrive sounds these amps can produce with P90, Strat, and humbucking pickups at: (Its a friend, not me playing). The Sammies from Charlotte, NC performing a cover of Gang Of Four’s “To Hell With Poverty” in the studio for the virtual benefit show “Love Thy Neighbor: A Tribute to Benefit Roof Above”. The guitarist on the right, with the darker Strat, is playing through one of these amps in this video. This amp was designed and constructed using the basic foundation of a 1960s (Akai M8) Roberts 770X tube reel to reel tape recorder. The amplifier circuitry has been optimized to specifically serve as a guitar amp rather than as hi-fi equipment. Where practical the original vintage components, including the tubes, have been kept. All filter and bypass capacitors have recently been replaced and a 3 prong power cord added. The amp is in excellent operating condition and looks almost new. There are 2 instruments inputs which share the common volume and tone controls. The 2 inputs however employ separate, and different, input stage tubes and therefore sound very different. The first input uses an EF86 (6267) tube. These tubes were used in 1960s vintage VOX amps, and are still used in some Dr. Z, Matchless, and other boutique amplifiers. The 2nd input uses a 12AX7 (12AD7) tube. 12AX7s are the most common preamp tubes used in guitar amplifiers such as Fender, Mesa Boogie, and Marshall. All of the tubes included are the original vintage 1960s tubes. This amp is very quiet (background noise and hum) and breaks up nicely at reasonable volume levels. The tone circuit uses a modified passive Baxandall/James circuit (Bass and Treble controls) similar to the type of tone stacks used in the original Ampeg, Orange, and some Dr. Additionally, a boost switch increases the gain and frequency response of the amp providing additional tonal flexibility. The output stage is a single-ended class A power amp. This amp uses an EL84 (6BQ5). Single-ended class A amps were used in many lower power 1950s-60s Fender Tweed and Blackface amps and in Vox’s AC-4, which also used the EL84 tube. The amp uses a 6X4 tube rectifier. For reference, the Layla album was recorded with both Clapton and Allman playing single-ended Class A, 5 watt Fender Champ amplifiers. This amp is great for rehearsal, small venue use, and especially studio recording. The cabinet was custom designed and constructed for this amp. The amp comes with the decorative vent grill which can be removed exposing the glowing tubes, which looks very cool. A schematic diagram will be provided for future reference. 1962 Ampeg B-12-X Fliptop Portaflex Vintage 1x12 Tube Amp with Trolley, Satellite

Up for sale, a 1962 Ampeg B-12-X in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. An early, collector-grade example, this rare Ampeg features the Navy Random Flair tolex which preceded the blue diamond covering Ampeg used extensively in later years, complete with the original satellite speaker for the Reverb effect, as well as the original matching trolley and two-button footswitch. One of the physically larger and more complex designs in the Portaflex series, the B-12-X features both vibrato and reverb through a ported cabinet outfitted with the original Jensen 12 ceramic driver. Stocked with a host of vintage preamp tubes as well as a fresh, properly biased pair of Tung Sol small bottle 6L6 power tubes, the B-12-X delivers a tone that has warmth, clarity and the rich overdrive characteristics commonly associated with Ampeg’s best designs. The physical size of the cabinet and ported design adds extra low end fullness too, and the EQ controls have a wide, useful sweep. The vibrato (not tremolo like most amps), has a deep, warbling pulse with a swirling, Leslie-like effect that is extremely lush. The reverb utilizes the original Accutronics two-spring tank, and curiously enough, is designed to only operate via the satellite cabinet, which is included and boasts its own original oval alnico speaker. The circuit is clean and stock, with only a few minor component substitutions to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The turret board design is true to how the amp left the factory, with original transformers and CTS pots that date to late 1961. The chassis has incredible shine with bright chrome plating and pristine white silkscreen lettering. Central to the face of the amp, a lucite, light-up “Ampeg” logo is present, secured with two new tiny screws. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is fully intact, dating to 1962, and the original Jensen 12 speaker offers a very smooth and pleasing voice that compliments the circuit design. Cosmetically, the original Navy Random Flair covering and silver grillcloth are intact and stunningly clean. A blue textured covering with dense silver sparkles, Navy Random Flair has a subtle distinction all its own. The original chrome side handles are present, and the stock blue leather handle central to the mounting tray of the head shows wear, but still works. The original multi-pin head to cabinet cable is intact, and the six shockmounts that suspend the head above the mounting tray are all brand new components from Fliptops, ensuring no rotted out rubber and a secure connection between the head and mounting tray when transporting the amp. The matching trolley is included, and the satellite Reverb cabinet and two-button footswitch both have their own dedicated spots to secure inside the cabinet. Nice condition 1966 Vintage Ampeg Jet J-12D version. Please look carefully at the photos. Don’t hesitate to ask for more photos. Check out the tolex and grill cloth on this one. This killer little combo amp is in sweet condition and I doubt you will find another 1966 vintage Ampeg Jet J-12D anywhere close to being this clean cosmetically. These Ampeg J-12D models are getting scarce, are highly sought after (for many reasons), and are very collectable. Light weight and super portable. Not to mention, built like a miniature tank. The build quality is top notch. Ampeg used quality parts and paid close attention to detail with these little gems. There is some fading of the silk screen on the faceplate, which is consistent with these amps of this vintage. Most Vintage Ampeg Jets we have seen have the silkscreen on the control panel almost completely rubbed off and missing. This happens over time and with a lot of use. This little Jet is all original and un-molested. It sounds wonderful at any volume. You’ll be surprised at the power of this little gem. Pedals really shine when used with this amp. He really hates to let it go, but he’s gotten older, doesn’t play much anymore, and says. It’s time to clear some things out. He takes great care of all his instruments and gear, and is very meticulous. He’s owned this amp for well over 20 years and says it has served him well at home and in the studio. He said it has never been on a live gig as long as he has owned it. Like other Ampeg amps of this era, the Jet 12 experienced some variations both in its enclosure style as well as in its electronic configuration. In this era, the model was also designated as the J-12D Jet and used a solid-state rectifier. Years of Production: 1958 – 1970. This one is a 1966 model. PLEASE BE AWARE IF APPLICABLE. This is an all sales final, no return listing. Please do not ask. All payments will be in USD (UNITED STATES DOLLARS). If Item is defective, YOU MUST notify us within 48 hours of receipt.
