Up for sale is a vintage Ampex Model 620 powered amplifier-speaker monitor. This unit is in beautiful cosmetic condition with a clean faceplate, original knobs, intact grill cloth, and a solid suitcase enclosure. Ampex Model 620 powered amplifier-speaker monitor I have used for years. Sometimes in my studio and sometimes in remote recordings. It has a JBL speakers and both units are in very good condition all original with power cables. I did recap it about 11 or 12 years ago. The brown leather-like exterior shows some minor scuffing and signs of use consistent with its age, including minor paint scrapes on the side ventilation grill, light surface oxidation on the metal rim around the rear recessed panel. When closed, the case measures approximately 17 x 14 x 8 1/2 inches and weighs about 24 pounds. This item is listed in multiple sites as well as locally. Manufactured in the 1960s by Olson Electronics, a popular supplier of consumer audio equipment and DIY electronics, this classic unit is highly sought after by vintage audiophiles and tube amp enthusiasts. The stereo amplifier pushes around 15 watts and has seven tubes. The currebt tube iibstallation consits of (4) tyoe 6BM8, (2) type 12AX7, and (1) type 6CA4. Here are some details on the Olson and its features on the back panel. RCA jacks for Channel 1 and Channel 2, including specialized inputs for a Tape Head, Magnetic Phono (MAG), Ceramic Phono (CER), Tuner (TUN), Auxillary (AUX), and a Tape Output (Tape Out). Hum Adjustments: (HUM/ADJ) Two potentiometer adjustment screws used to balance the heater filament voltage and minimize backround AC hum. Speaker Phasing Switch: A toggle to quickly invert the polarity of one speaker channel to insure playing in phase. The amplifier performs on one channel only, The potentiometers and switches perform without much extraneous noise. The video sound clip has one side of the amplifier at full volume with KLH AV-4001(C) 8 ohn center channel speaker with a Phillips CD player. The feet all have been recently replaced with new hard rubber isolation footers utiliziing the original slot type screws. The unit stands firm and very solid. The inside cabinet appears fairly clean and without any visual issues (photo supplied). There are some scratches on the bottom corner. Owners name scratched on rear. Manufactures name is missing from amplifier. Other scuffs are on the case (photos provided). One of the glamour rings is missing Channel 1 fron outert control knob, 3rd from left. Packed with tubes seperated from the unit if desired (recommended). Will double box and utilize some or all of the following packing materials: air pillows, bubble wrap, kraft paper.
