Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Bandmaster in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, loaded with a full vintage tube set. Extremely original, this “Piggyback” Bandmaster is decked out in original rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth. This Brown Panel circuit drives two matched Tung Sol USA small bottle 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes for 40 powerful watts. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brown Panel circuits are dynamic and responsive, delivering Fender’s hi-fi glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a positively huge sweep, from thick and mellow to biting, twangy snap. After around 5 on the volume dial, the amp cascades into rich tube overdrive that compresses a bit and feels slightly loose and gritty in just the right way without losing too much clarity. It’s the kind of natural tube overdrive that only comes from pushing a well-designed Fender circuit. The Harmonic Vibrato circuit is also a complex design only found on the top tier Brown Panel models, utilizing three tubes and creating a lush pitch shifting effect that has more in common with a Leslie or Chorus than a traditional tremolo. The circuit is 100% original save for a recap of the main power supply. The full complement of Schumacher-made transformers are intact, with date codes from early’63. The preamp is untouched, with all of the famed blue Ajax tone caps intact, along with all of the original Stackpole pots which have visible date codes from the 14th week of’63. The power cable is the original gray two-prong, and a three-prong cable can be installed at no additional cost at the next owner’s discretion. The full (likely original) vintage tube set includes include a pair of matched small bottle vintage Tung Sol USA 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes with RCA and Tung Sol-branded valves in the preamp. The speaker cab is loaded with the original Oxford alnico magnet 12L6 speaker pair and untouched speaker harness. Inside the head cabinet, the tube chart has a “MF” stamp which translates to June of’63. Cosmetically, this is an extremely well-kept example, with clean and original rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth. The faceplate is in great shape, and all of the original cream barrel knobs are present. Both flat Fender logos are original on the head and cab and all additional stock hardware is present too, with tilt-back chrome legs, leg stops, sphinx glides (feet), nickel corners, flat handles and piggyback clip bars.

Fender Bandmaster Black Panel AB763 1966 Amplifier Head Guitar Tube Amp. Tested and fully functional. It does have some cosmetic wear as expected for its age. Previous owner has recapped it at some point. The output transformer does not appear to be original, and the 3 prong power cable was added at some point. 1969 Fender Bandmaster Reverb – Vintage Silverface Tube Head with Upgraded Transformers. Looks to have had been re-tolexed. For sale is a powerful and great-sounding Fender Bandmaster Reverb amplifier head from the 1970s Silverface era. This model features the classic Fender clean tone, lush spring reverb, and responsive tremolo. It’s been thoughtfully upgraded with newer output and power transformers for improved performance and reliability. Model: Fender Bandmaster Reverb. Output: 40 watts, tube-powered. 1967 Fender Bandmaster Amp. Electric Guitar / Bass Amplifier Head. I bought this amp many decades ago and used it briefly before adding it to my collection. This is an unusually clean drip edge model. A former owner drilled 3 holes in the back of the chassis partially obscuring the last digit of the serial number. I taped plastic over the tube chart to preserve it but retained all the original hardware. I replaced the original silverface faceplate with a repro blackface faceplate because it was an early drip edge model with two 1967 transformer coded dates and the output transformer is a 1964. I took it to my current amp tech and he replaced the filter caps, powered it for an hour and checked operation. He says it’s now in great shape. Serial # A 2937 1? Last # is cut out. (48th week of 1967). (45th week of 1967). (26th week of 1964). It might serve the buyers purpose to bring up the power slowly with a variac since these used amp heads are over 50 years old and have not been used for a few decades. Our amp tech has only replaced the needed parts -(filter caps & power cords as specified) to just get them turned on and running for an hour. Please see a skilled amp tech before extended use. 1965 Fender Bandmaster / Showman. Electric Guitar / Bass Amplifier Head. This is what I call a Showmaster. It is essentially a Bandmaster thats been converted to a Showman amp, putting out approx. I got this amp head many decades ago and took it to my amp tech back then who removed all unnecessary modifications, changed the filter caps, the power cord and ran it for an hour. He put two plugs in the back of the chassis where the holes were from the pots, which cover the first letter of the serial number. He restored the circuit back to original model blackface circuitry but retained the Showman modification. I have not ran or played it since. It’s been often said by many that this is not a practical modification as it can overload the transformers and cause many problems. That is not necessarily true and especially in this case since both the output transformer and power transformer are the same ones used in Fender Dual Showman and Twin Reverb amplifiers. I recently, July 2024, took it to my current amp tech who checked the circuitry and ran the amplifier for an hour and found no problems. This amp should be working fine. The cabinet was pretty beat up when I got it so this was one of my first attempts back then of recovering. I re-tolexed the entire cabinet but not knowingly, I removed all the staples holding the screen on and re-stapled with silver staples. I taped plastic over the tube chart which was falling apart and saw enough of the date code so I wrote it in with black marker (OD). I also changed all of the hardware with the exception of the piggy-back slide brackets. This is why the amp looks so clean, I wanted it to match the exceptionally clean faceplate. Serial # A 10155. Professionally retolexed and regrilled with vintage-correct materials and patterns, this Bandmaster is loaded with a modern pair of Jensen C12N speakers, while the circuit is 100% original. This 40 watt Black Panel Fender powerhouse has the powerful, balanced cleans and smooth tube overdrive at high volumes that you expect from a vintage Fender from this era. The cleans are warm and articulate, with Fender’s sparkly top end and the ability to dial in just the right amount of grit and light tube compression. The preamp retains all of the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps, essential to the sweet, musical sound of the Black Panel circuits, and the original Schumacher-made transformers all date to 1965. The Stackpole pots have late’65 date codes, and the tube chart rounds out the applicable dates with a “PB” stamp that translates to February of 1966. Even the original power supply caps are intact and still viable. The tube complement includes a brand new pair of properly biased 6L6 power tube pair, with a host of mostly vintage valves in the preamp from the likes of RCA and Sylvania. The cabinet is stocked with a modern pair of Jensen C12N 12 speakers with immaculate deep green frames and original cones. The cabinet has also been fitted with new sound dampening foam sheets. The head and speaker cabinet have been professionally retolexed with correct smooth black tolex, cut in vintage-correct patterns, along with new silver sparkle grillcloth on both enclosures. Both the head and cabinet retain their original raised “Fender” logos, and the gleaming hardware includes new nickel corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), chassis straps, and chrome tilt-back legs.
