Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Bandmaster in mint condition and in good working order. A “best of both worlds” amp for a player that seeks a like-new appearance, optimal reliability, and a lush, all-tube sound with vintage circuitry, this Bandmaster is a stunning example. Professionally retolexed and regrilled with vintage-correct materials and patterns, this Bandmaster is loaded with a modern pair of Jensen C12N speakers, while the circuit is 100% original. This 40 watt Black Panel Fender powerhouse has the powerful, balanced cleans and smooth tube overdrive at high volumes that you expect from a vintage Fender from this era. The cleans are warm and articulate, with Fender’s sparkly top end and the ability to dial in just the right amount of grit and light tube compression. The preamp retains all of the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps, essential to the sweet, musical sound of the Black Panel circuits, and the original Schumacher-made transformers all date to 1965. The Stackpole pots have late’65 date codes, and the tube chart rounds out the applicable dates with a “PB” stamp that translates to February of 1966. Even the original power supply caps are intact and still viable. The tube complement includes a brand new pair of properly biased 6L6 power tube pair, with a host of mostly vintage valves in the preamp from the likes of RCA and Sylvania. The cabinet is stocked with a modern pair of Jensen C12N 12 speakers with immaculate deep green frames and original cones. The cabinet has also been fitted with new sound dampening foam sheets. The head and speaker cabinet have been professionally retolexed with correct smooth black tolex, cut in vintage-correct patterns, along with new silver sparkle grillcloth on both enclosures. Both the head and cabinet retain their original raised “Fender” logos, and the gleaming hardware includes new nickel corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), chassis straps, and chrome tilt-back legs. You simply won’t find a better vintage Blackface Fender at this price point, and the Bandmaster truly delivers on the promise of the AB763 circuit, with incredible cleans, smooth overdrive and strong tremolo! Vintage 1965 Fender Bandmaster Blackface AB763 Guitar Tube Amplifier Amp Head. This amp dates to early/mid 1965. The amp was fitted long ago with a 1964 Twin/Showman transformer to accommodate four power tubes to have the option for more power. Very much like a Showman now with a little more mid bite. The rest of the iron is all original dating to 1965. Operates as stock when using only two power tubes running at 40 watts. The feel is there and has all the great tone youd expect from a classic amp such as this. The tone stack on these blackface Bandmasters is such a killer tone and there is good reason why these are such classics. This particular amp is no exception. This one will make somebody very happy. The CTS pots have late’65 date codes, and the tube chart rounds out the applicable dates with a “OI” stamp that translates to September of 1965. Even the original power supply caps are intact and still viable. The cabinet is stocked with the original pair of Oxford 12L6 12 speakers with immaculate black frames, original cones, and clean date stamps from the 10th week of’65. All of the original fiberglass sound dampening sheets are intact inside the cabinet too. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are extremely well-kept, with only light darkening of the grillcloth and zero snags. Both the head and cabinet retain their original raised “Fender” logos and all of the original hardware is intact including the nickel corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), chassis straps, and Pat. You are looking at a Fender Bandmaster Head and cabinet from 1962. Not even caps have been changed to my knowledge. When we opened the cabinet to take pictures it was clear that we were the first to do so. WE didn’t open up the head, but, based on conversations with the previous owner we felt it better to not do so. His back story would confirm that it has never been worked on. It is also safe to say that it hasn’t been played much in the last couple of decades. We did though, and, it sounds beautiful. All original from 1962, original Jensen speakers. Check out the video. Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bandmaster head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Pre-CBS Fender piggyback amp features original smooth blonde tolex and a AA763 circuit, typically only seen on the very first Blackface amps. The rare combination of cosmetics on this amp was only seen from the last months of 1963 through mid-64, and this amp sounds particularly good with a matched pair of brand new and freshly biased Tung Sol 5881 power tubes. This Bandmaster delivers the incredible cleans which are a hallmark of the Blackface tone, with sparkle, clarity and definition unlike any amps before or since. Pushing the amp beyond 4 on the Volume dial on either channel yields natural grit and tube breakup, overdriving hard when you dime the controls. The tremolo has a nice strong pulse and a very dimensional sound with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is very clean and original, with the stock Schumacher transformers dating from late 1963-64. All of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp and an essential part of the Blackface Fender tone, while the main filter caps have been upgraded to Sprague Atoms to ensure that the circuit is working optimally. The original CTS pots are all intact too, with visible date codes from the 40th week of 1963. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. In addition to the Tung Sol power tubes, the amp features a pair of USA-made General Electric 12AX7 preamp tubes along with modern valves from the likes of Mullard and EH. The original tube chart is mostly intact inside the head, with an ML date stamp that translates to December of 1963. The original smooth blonde tolex shows some scuffs and light signs of wear on the edges of the enclosures, and the baffle has been freshly regrilled with wheat grillcloth and fitted with the original raised Fender logo. The back panel is a modern replacement with matching smooth blonde tolex. The hardware shows its fair share of surface patina yet is all accounted for including the corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and piggyback clip bars. This early Blackface Bandmaster features stock transformers, fresh power tubes, and a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
