Vintage Tube Amp

Here’s a very early Carvin tube amplifier from around 1950. It appears to be a Model 205, but I cannot be certain. The tubes are two 12J5, two 6V6GT, and a 6X5. It has a 12 inch permanent magnet speaker. Probably manufactured by Magna/Magnatone in California. The speaker code is 371041 (41st week of 1950). One pot is readable with a code of 304048 (48th week of 1950). The amp has an updated 3 prong grounded power cord. The two 12J5 tubes are “new old stock” and the other tubes test good. The amp has a loud hum when you turn it on, so it likely needs filter caps. If you are into early Carvin stuff, or early vintage tube amps in general, this is a great find. This vintage Carvin amplifier is almost like new. I just replaced the tubes with brand new ones from Tube Depot, but the originals are included. This amplifier features pentode and triode modes (using five tubes or using just three). In pentode mode you can easily gig it. In triode mode it sounds great in the bedroom and breaks nicely at low volume. It also has spring reverb. But it’s not going to come close to today’s digital. Also included is the original manual. The tweet tolex is perfect but there’s a very small what looks like a slightly oily fingerprint on the bottom of one side of the cabinet. I tried wiping it off with Dawn but I didn’t want to risk possibly damaging the tolex tweed which is perfect other than that slight discoloration. It’s virtually perfect. This was probably a closet Queen it doesn’t look like it was never taken out. No scratches dents dings or anything. Those white tabs on the corner are stick on velcro they hold a protective plywood over the grill.

This is in great working condition. This guitar amp has two channels. All you need is the speakers you’d like to add in which are 2, 4, 12′s. This is a very strong type of amplifier head. This amp sounds like a Reveria and Fender amplifier to be frank with you. It’s a bit heavy too but will be wrapped up securely. It is light but has great tone and power.
