1968 Fender Princeton Reverb Drip Edge Vintage Tube Amp with Blackface Circuit

Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Princeton Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original footswitch. A transitional “drip edge/black line” example, this amp features a set of unique cosmetic cues including a small tail-less Fender logo, aluminum trim framing the grillcloth, and thin vertical black lines on the early Silverface faceplate, denoting a Princeton Reverb which retains the same circuitry and components as its Blackface era predecessor. Freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the Princeton Reverb is the perfect amplifier for small club gigs and studio sessions. This classic Fender AA764 Blackface circuit delivers both well-balanced, sparkling cleans and smooth, harmonic-rich overdrive when you dime it out. The Reverb is extremely lush and the Tremolo has a nice pulse with a wide range of speeds. The circuit retains the original pair of transformers manufactured for Fender by Better Coil & Transformer, dating between late 1967 and the first weeks of’68. The preamp boasts most of the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps (an essential part of the Blackface sound), along with a few replacement caps, smaller top shelf Sprague electrolytics, and low-noise metal film resistors. The larger multi-section can cap in the power supply has also been recently replaced to ensure trouble-free performance, and the power cable has been upgraded to the modern three-prong variety. All of the original pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 2nd week of’68. The tubes consist of a matched pair of JJ 6V6s with an JJ GZ34 rectifier and a bevy of modern and vintage valves in the preamp. The speaker is the original Oxford 10J4 with a black frame and blue foil Fender label on the magnet. The speaker retains the original speaker harness as well, complete with the original speaker jack with Fender “F” cap. The tube chart is mostly intact and quite aged, with some tape on the edges. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are intact, with a few bald corners on the otherwise very clean tolex, and light, uniform aging of the grill. The original faceplate shows a speckling of light wear with a full compliment of witch hat knobs, and the hardware includes original chassis straps, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and small raised Fender tail-less logo. This vintage Princeton Reverb works exactly as it should, sounds great, and is ready for another 50 years of use. The amp comes complete with the original black two-button footswitch to engage the Reverb and Vibrato effects. 1956 Fender Princeton Tweed Vintage Tube Amp Narrow Panel Big Box 5F2 Circuit

Up for sale, a 1956 Fender Princeton in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This narrow panel Tweed amp has absolutely stunning and virtually un-ambered original tweed, and is one of the more impressive golden-age Fender amps to come through our shop of late. With its narrow panel configuration, this Princeton is considered the “big box” version, with a cab that’s far larger than the single 8 alnico speaker requires, and the resulting sound is deceptively round and rich for the relatively small speaker size. The circuit couldn’t be more simple and pure, with single Volume and Tone knobs and a Class A circuit design, powered by a single 6V6 power tube. The tone is articulate, dynamic and commanding, with the sizzle and churning overdrive of a Champ, but with more tonal range and fuller low end. The top end response is just right, and the amp doesn’t get too trebly, making the tone control quite usable for dialing in exactly as much zing and snap as you desire. The circuit is very original and only serviced as necessary for optimal functionality, retaining the original Triad transformers. The original Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and yellow Astron capacitors are intact, with the Stackpole pots dating to the 47th week of 1955. The power supply caps and smaller electrolytics have been replaced with high quality modern Spragues, and all original Astron Mini Mite electrolytics are included, along with the two-prong power cable (a three-prong is currently installed). The tubes include a vintage RCA 6V6 and Sylvania 5Y3 rectifier along with a modern Mullard 12AX7. The speaker is original and a particularly rare alnico Jensen. The speaker has the signature of the Fender employee who wired the circuit on the edge of the frame, and the speaker is also stamped “FE” just north of the magnet, matching the identical stamps on the chassis and tube chart. The tube chart is notable for its well-preserved condition, with perfect corners, handwritten serial number, and “FE” date stamp which translates to May of 1956. The inside of the cabinet is stamped for Torp’s Music Center and Dancing School in St. Paul, Minnesota, presumably the original purchaser of this amp in 1956. Torp’s also added a mini badge to the lower face of the amp, and clearly this amp never saw much use at the Music Center, given its stunning cosmetic condition. There is barely any ambering of the original tweed, with only extremely minor edge wear. The faceplate is extremely clean, with all of the white silkscreened font, shiny chrome, and a pair of original chicken head knobs. A new leather handle has been installed, yet the original is also included (split at one end). This amp is a true rarity given its condition, and this particular example has been carefully tested and inspected to ensure originality and ideal functionality. Any original parts which necessitated replacement are included, such as capacitors, the two-prong power cable, and leather handle. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. 1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Drip Edge Vintage Tube Amp with Blackface Circuit

Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb, in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. A very early transitional example with “drip edge” aluminum trim, this Vibrolux Reverb is a variation made only for a few short months in early’68 which still retains identical circuitry and component values to its Blackface predecessor, including blue Ajax tone caps and cloth-covered wire. With good reason, the Vibrolux is one of the most desirable Fender models for its ideal size and power, performing well both on stage and in the studio with shimmering Fender cleans and smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive when you push the amp towards 10 on the volume dial. Clean and sweet up til about 5 on the volume knob (with a perceived volume that’s loud enough to keep up with an aggressive drummer), the Vibrolux has smooth attack and tube rectifier sag, not to mention lush tube reverb and punchy tremolo. This Vibrolux has been serviced to balance originality and functionality, boasting a recap of the power supply and a modern three-prong power cable. The original Schumacher-made power and output transformers are intact and date to’68, and the original choke and reverb transformer are present too. The preamp features many of the original blue Ajax caps, with a few Sprague Orange Drops and smaller electrolytics installed as needed to ensure reliable, consistent performance in-line with factory spec. The original Oxford 10 10L5 speakers sound fantastic, with clean black frames and Fender foil stickers on the ceramic magnets. The tube chart is fully intact with crisp corners, noting the AA864 circuit. The pair of Tung Sol 5881 (6L6) power tubes sound wonderful and are optimally biased, and the preamp tubes are a matched compliment of modern Electro Harmonix-branded valves. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with blue stripe are stunningly clean. The grill is framed by the distinctive “drip edge” aluminum trim, and the faceplate is incredibly well-kept with all of the original witch hat knobs. The hardware includes the raised Fender logo with tail, handle caps, chassis straps, corners, and sphinx glides (feet). A vintage Fender two-button footswitch is included, along with an amp cover from the 1970s. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! The circuit is very original and serviced as necessary for optimal functionality, retaining the original transformer pair, with a Schumacher power transformer that dates to the 49th week of’59. The original Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and a couple blue Ajax capacitors are intact, with the pots dating to the 52nd week of 1959. The power supply caps and smaller electrolytics have been replaced with high quality modern Samwha and Sprague caps. The tubes are all vintage valves with a Bogen-branded USA-made 6V6, and RCA-made 5Y3 rectifier and 12AX7 tubes. The speaker is an era-correct Oxford 8 driver which has been professionally reconed, with a very clean gray frame and wiring harness with RCA end. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet. There is notable ambering of the original tweed, with a few bald corners and modest scuffing on the enclosure edges. The faceplate is quite clean, with the majority of the white silkscreened text, shiny chrome, and a pair of original chicken head knobs. 1962 Fender Vibrolux Vintage Tube Amp Brownface Pre-CBS 1x12 Combo, 6G11 Circuit

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Vibrolux in excellent condition and in good working order. This rare 1×12 “Brownface” version of the Vibrolux is a bridge between the Tweed and Blackface models in both specs and tone, with a glassy, touch sensitive quality, robust cleans, and rich overdrive characteristics when you dime it out. Pushing 35 all tube watts through a vintage Oxford alnico 12L5N speaker, there’s plenty to love about the versatility and tone offered by this Fender. The amp has plenty of clean headroom and the sweet sag of a tube rectifier, and when pushed above 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly and cascade into sweet overdrive with just enough bite. The bias-based tremolo circuit also has a very strong, thumping pulse that’s notably deeper than later Fender circuits, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is freshly serviced and largely original, retaining the original Schumacher output transformer and choke which both date to early-1962. The power transformer is a properly spec’d replacement for this amp courtesy of Mercury Magnetic’s Tone Clone series. All of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp and an integral part of the sweetness and clarity of the circuit. All of the stock pots are intact as well (dating to late’61) with largely original solder joints and cloth covered wire. The power supply has been recapped with high quality Sprague Atoms, along with new bias and bypass caps in the preamp. The amp has also been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a matched pair of Groove Tubes 6L6-GE small bottle valves, with matching Groove Tubes in the preamp and an Amperex “bugle boy” rectifier. The Oxford speaker is original, dating to the 4th week of’62 and sporting a very clean frame and original cone. The stock speaker harness is intact as well, and inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is intact with an LG date stamp, translating to July of 1962. Cosmetically, this amp would look great in a studio, with original rough brown tolex and wheat grillcloth. The leather handle is a modern replacement, and the enclosure shows only some requisite minor marks and scuffs, with light wear through the tolex on the bottom corners of the cabinet. The faceplate retains all of the original brown barrel knobs. This Vibrolux is a rare, thoroughly serviced, and largely original vintage Pre-CBS Fender amp that’s ready for stage and studio use. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. 1958 Fender Deluxe Tweed Vintage Tube Amp 5E3 Circuit, Factory Brown/Oxblood

Up for sale, a 1958 Fender Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A golden era narrow panel “tweed” amp with an incredibly detailed and dynamic range of tones, this amp is a true rarity, featuring a Fender factory retolex in early pinkish-brown rough brown tolex circa 1961. Sitting squarely in the realm of “go find another, ” this Deluxe has a distinct visual appearance and all the raucous, touch-sensitive overdrive and sweet harmonic richness that defines the 5E3 model and narrow panel era of Fender Tweed production. At low volumes this Deluxe can deliver sparkling cleans that are round and powerful, with two distinctly voiced channels that overdrive beautifully. There’s plenty of rich roar and sizzle on tap when the amp is pushed to its max, and the single tone knob has ample range for sculpting the low end or adding treble zing. Especially when connecting the two channels with a small jumper 1/4 cable, the interactive pair of Volume controls can dial in everything from fully saturated snarl to particularly sweet, buzzy qualities with ideal midrange bite that you often times can’t coax out of any other Tweed circuit. This amp reacts well to a host of effects pedals and different guitars, but truly shines with the guitar plugged straight into the amp, using your volume knob to govern clean rhythm tones and singing leads with the twist of a knob. The circuit is extremely original, with stock Triad transformers and CTS pots that date to the 37th week of 1957. The power transformer retains its original windings, and the output transformer has been recently rewound to original spec. The preamp retains three of the famed yellow Astron capacitors, giving the circuit a certain sweetness that no modern cap can match. The power amp has been professionally recapped with F&T capacitors and a few of the smaller electrolytics have been upgraded as well and fitted in the original Minimite sleeves for a clean, vintage look. The tubes include a matched pair of RCA 6V6s with a 5Y3 rectifier and USA-made valves in the preamp too. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong. The speaker is a modern Jensen P12Q with a green frame and alnico magnet construction closely matching’50s Jensen spec. The tube chart is intact and extremely clean, with paper that is only lightly faded, crisp corners, and an “HA” code, dating the amp to January of 1958 (the latest date on the amp). The chrome on the chassis still has plenty of shine, and much of the original white silkscreen lettering is still present on the panel, along with stock chicken head knobs. A new leather handle has been installed, retaining the original fasteners. The rough brown tolex is in great shape, and this distinctive tolex tint and texture has never been replicated since Fender’s original use from 1960-63. Both back panels are original as well, along with the Oxblood gold stripe grillcloth on the stock baffle. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 1968 Fender Vibro Champ Drip Edge Vintage Class A Tube Amp with Blackface Circuit

Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Vibro Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order with transitional cosmetic features. One of the first Silverface-era Fender amps produced, this Vibro Champ features “Drip Edge, Black Line” cosmetics, with aluminum trim framing the grillcloth and slender vertical black lines on the faceplate. Under the hood the circuit is identical to Fender’s Blackface amps of just a few months prior, and the Vibro Champ’s five watt Class A circuit delivers clear, chiming cleans and raucous, sizzling drive with a twist of the Volume knob. The Vibrato has a nice pulse and chop too, and this amp is a studio and apartment-friendly combo that delivers a dynamic, sparkling vintage Fender sound. The circuit is largely untouched, with original transformers that date to the first weeks of’68, and CTS pots that date back to 1966. All of the original pots are intact save one, and the preamp only has a few new capacitors as necessary to keep the amp functioning optimally. The tube compliment includes a modern Grooves Tubes 6V6 power tube, with a vintage Jan/Phillips 5Y3 rectifier and pair of modern preamp tubes. The speaker is a modern 8 replacement courtesy of Weber, and the ceramic magnet keeps the low end tighter and fuller than the stock speaker. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe is intact, and the grill features both the transitional aluminum trim and small tail-less Fender logo only seen on the very first Silverface Fender amps. The grillcloth shows light uniform aging, and all of the original hardware is intact with modest surface patina including the handle caps, chassis straps, and sphinx glides (feet). The enclosure shows only one notable divot on the top edge adjacent to one of the chassis straps. 1967 Fender Bassman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp 2x12 AB165 Circuit

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp features a well-maintained and very original circuit, with stock transformers and a fresh recap of the power supply. The AB165 circuit delivers clarity, warmth, and headroom, and this Bassman excels at sweet and articulate Fender clean tones with the distinctive punch of the accompanying 2×12 closed-back cabinet design. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. The AB165 circuit retains all of the original Schumacher transformers which date to late’66. The stock CTS pots date to early 1966 as well, while the chassis stamp puts the amp’s manufacture at early’67. The preamp retains the full compliment of original blue molded Ajax caps, as well as a few new smaller bypass and bias caps to ensure optimal operation. The power amp has also been professionally recapped with top-tier F&T capacitors, and the power cable changed to a modern three-prong. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “QD” date stamp which translates to April of 1967. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Fender-branded 12 drivers including one Oxford and one Utah made speaker with nearly identical black frames and original blue foil Fender labels on the ceramic magnets. The speakers deliver a bold and smooth sound with ideal punch and top end detail without being overly bright. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are some expected small scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, but no serious wear of any kind, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of localized patina and light surface rust on the tilt-back legs and bottom corners of the cabinet, but that’s about the extent of any wear. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with Oxford 12T6 speakers in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is a rare transitional model with a larger cabinet meant to be oriented vertically, yet still smaller than the Silverface cabinets seen by’68. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones, and the increased cabinet size boosts the low end response. The AB165 circuit retains all of the original Schumacher transformers which all date to 1967 along with the chassis stamp, while the CTS pots date back to’66. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the virtually untouched preamp, while the bias cap and main filter caps have been freshly replaced with top tier Spragues to guarantee decades of future, trouble-free performance. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed too. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is clean and intact with a “QF” date stamp which translates to June of 1967. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage, factory-spec Oxford 12T6 speakers which date to’72, and these 12 drivers are a perfect compliment for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well-balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The frames are near mint, the original blue foil Fender labels are present, and both speakers have their original cones. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are only a few small scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, and this amp would look great in a studio collection. All of the original hardware is present, including the nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of light patina on the hardware as well as aging of the grillcloth, but that’s about the extent of any wear! Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Vibro Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This little Blackface-era Fender wonder delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone! A surprisingly loud amp with the original alnico 8 speaker, this Vibro Champ delivers just the right amount of glassy, sparkling clean tone before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive at about 4 on the volume knob. Dynamic, responsive, and absolutely huge sounding when you put a microphone in front of it, it’s hard to beat the Vibro Champ for pure simplicity and great tone. And of course, Fender’s lush sounding tremolo circuit has a strong pulse and wide range of speeds, perfect for subtle shifts in volume or machine gun chop. The circuit is very original, with stock Schumacher transformers that date between late 66 and mid 1967, and pots that date to the 42nd week of 66. The circuit features a brand new multi-section filter can cap along with a couple new Sprague capacitors in the preamp to ensure optimal functionality. The tube chart is very clean and fully intact, with an “QB” code which translates to February of 1967. The speaker is the original Fender-branded Oxford 8 with a clean blue Fender foil label on the alnico magnet. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth is quite clean. All of the stock hardware is intact, with light patina on the original handle caps and sphinx glides. The tolex is free of notable wear, and the grillcloth has only light aging, with the original raised Fender badge intact. The faceplate is very clean with its full compliment of black witch hat knobs, and this Vibro Champ is an ideal specimen of Class A Blackface Fender tone.
