Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Vibro Champ in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original RCA & Telefunken tube set and factory paperwork. This little Blackface-era Fender wonder delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone. A surprisingly loud amp with the original alnico 8 speaker, this Vibro Champ has just the right amount of glassy, sparkling clean tone before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive at about 4 on the volume knob. Dynamic, responsive, and absolutely huge sounding when you put a microphone in front of it, it’s hard to beat the Vibro Champ for pure simplicity and great tone. And of course, Fender’s lush sounding tremolo circuit has a strong pulse and wide range of speeds, perfect for subtle shifts in volume or machine gun chop. The circuit is nearly untouched, with stock Schumacher transformers that date between late 1966 and early’67. The preamp has only a few new capacitors to ensure the amp is operating optimally. The tube chart is extremely clean and fully intact, with an “QF” code which translates to June of 1967. The tubes are all original vintage valves from the likes of RCA and Telefunken. The speaker is the original Fender-branded Oxford 8 with a clean blue Fender label on the alnico magnet and a frame that shows virtually no wear. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are remarkably clean. The faceplate is near mint, with its full compliment of witch hat knobs. The stock handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and chassis straps are all intact, and the hardware shows only light surface patina. The tolex shows barely any wear, and the grillcloth still has plenty of sparkle to the thread. This Vibro Champ is an ideal example of Blackface tone that sure to delight both discerning collectors and serious players, complete with the original tube set. Up for sale, a 1963 Orpheum vintage USA-made tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced by Valco (the Chicago-based company responsible for Supro, National and others), this Orpheum is a miniature vintage wonder that delivers the kind of midrange thickness and grit that’s unique to Valco’s vintage preamps and original point-to-point circuits. Powered by a single 6V6 power tube pushing an oval shaped alnico speaker, this amp is perfectly suited for the recording studio, and sounds positively huge with a mic in front of it. The circuit couldn’t be simpler, with Volume and Tone controls, as well as two 1/4″ inputs, independently voiced for “Standard” or “Treble. The additional tremolo control both engages the effect and controls its speed. Aside from a couple new capacitors as necessary, the circuit is completely original. The pots are original, and both original transformers are intact, made by Triwec and dating to 1963. The original textured black ostrich covering is intact on the amp and in fantastic shape, along with the stock gold sparkle grillcloth and fragile plastic “Orpheum” badge on the amp’s face. The chrome faceplate retains the original knobs and has plenty of shine to the chrome plating, retaining virtually all of the original black silkscreened text. The original small serial number badge is intact on the back of the amp beneath the back panel, and aside from some light wear around the corners of the enclosure, this Orpheum is quite clean and would look great in a studio! Simple, elegant and clean enough to satisfy collectors and serious players alike, this vintage Champ boasts its original lacquered tweed and hallowed 5F1 circuit. It doesn’t get much more pure than the Champ, and this studio favorite delivers freakishly dynamic and glassy pure tube tone that can go from clean to fully saturated overdrive with a twist of the single knob. This particular Champ has been well cared for over the decades and is stocked with the original Oxford 8 speaker. The circuit has just been serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, with new filter caps sleeved in the original Minimite wrappers (all original caps included) The preamp retains the original yellow Astron tone capacitors. Both transformers are original, and the chassis itself boasts an extremely clean chrome faceplate with all of the original white silkscreen lettering. The original gray two-prong power cable is still installed as well. The original Stackpole pot dates to the 30th week of 1959, and the Oxford speaker dates to the 43rd week of the same year. Both the speaker frame and chassis have an “IK” stamp, which translates to November of 1959. The tubes are all vintage valves including a Tung Sol 6V6 power tube. Cosmetically, the original lacquered tweed has ambered considerably, with some minor scuffs and wear around the lower right corner on the face of the enclosure in particular, but overall the tweed looks particularly great and uniformly aged, with original nailed in feet and even the original leather handle! Both back panels are original as well as the baffle, which retains the original oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe.
