(Tubes are extremely rare) and the original Hammond preamp tubes, all included. This is perfect and simple conversion project to the “SPITFIRE” style guitar amp. And these amps are very popular to convert. If you need the wiring schematic for the “Spitfire” conversion, please send me a message.

Late 1940s Masco MA-25PN. Originally a Public Address System. Now re-purposed into a fully restored amplifier. All components have been tested/replaced if out of spec, and ran this amp wide open for hours. Tubes have all been tested and ran for audio/instrument clarity. 30 Watts Class A. Original Output, Replaced Power with Transformer from Era. Sounds amazing, tuned, ready to inspire! Original Knobs and Paint. Amp has been altered from it’s original wiring circuit. We jumper all channels as one. This mod allows you complete access to all of the channels if you like, or just one at a time. They all sound slightly different. 6J7 Preamp (4), one for each channel. Russian 6SL7 Phase (1), bass and treble controls. 5U4 Single Rectified (1). New grounded cord and plug. 1/4″ stereo input, 1/4″ mono outputs in 4,8,16, ohm operation. Vintage 1940s-1950s tube PA head in good condition. Has not been powered on. This unit is 100% original, with high quality vintage glass (untested, may need fresh tubes). This will be an easy tweed-era Fender style tube amp conversion for a competent amp tech to perform. Unsure of wattage or power capabilities once converted, amp currently uses 6SJ7 preamp tubes. Needs new caps and probably needs some of the old carbon comp resistors replaced, as I’m sure they’re out of spec. Chassis and case are in nice condition with normal wear, and are very high quality. Nice heavy steel construction and a nice, thick, industrial paint job. The Guitologist on YouTube has a video doing a complete conversion of this exact model. I have too many projects and way too many old tube guitar amps or I’d convert it myself. Gotta kill my darlings sometimes. This will make a great project for someone. Vintage 1960s Hand Wired Tube Guitar Amp Head Akai Conversion like Fender, Vox, Ampeg. Excellent condition, no issues. Listen to samples of the clean and overdrive sounds these amps can produce with P90, Strat, and humbucking pickups at: (Its a friend, not me playing). The Sammies from Charlotte, NC performing a cover of Gang Of Four’s “To Hell With Poverty” in the studio for the virtual benefit show “Love Thy Neighbor: A Tribute to Benefit Roof Above”. The guitarist on the right, with the darker Strat, is playing through one of these amps in this video. This amp was designed and constructed using the basic foundation of a 1960s (Akai M8) Roberts 770X tube reel to reel tape recorder. The amplifier circuitry has been optimized to specifically serve as a guitar amp rather than as hi-fi equipment. Where practical the original vintage components, including the tubes, have been kept. All filter and bypass capacitors have recently been replaced and a 3 prong power cord added. The amp is in excellent operating condition and looks almost new. There are 2 instruments inputs which share the common volume and tone controls. The 2 inputs however employ separate, and different, input stage tubes and therefore sound very different. The first input uses an EF86 (6267) tube. These tubes were used in 1960s vintage VOX amps, and are still used in some Dr. Z, Matchless, and other boutique amplifiers. The 2nd input uses a 12AX7 (12AD7) tube. 12AX7s are the most common preamp tubes used in guitar amplifiers such as Fender, Mesa Boogie, and Marshall. All of the tubes included are the original vintage 1960s tubes. This amp is very quiet (background noise and hum) and breaks up nicely at reasonable volume levels. The tone circuit uses a modified passive Baxandall/James circuit (Bass and Treble controls) similar to the type of tone stacks used in the original Ampeg, Orange, and some Dr. Additionally, a boost switch increases the gain and frequency response of the amp providing additional tonal flexibility. The output stage is a single-ended class A power amp. This amp uses an EL84 (6BQ5). Single-ended class A amps were used in many lower power 1950s-60s Fender Tweed and Blackface amps and in Vox’s AC-4, which also used the EL84 tube. The amp uses a 6X4 tube rectifier. For reference, the Layla album was recorded with both Clapton and Allman playing single-ended Class A, 5 watt Fender Champ amplifiers. This amp is great for rehearsal, small venue use, and especially studio recording. The cabinet was custom designed and constructed for this amp. The amp comes with the decorative vent grill which can be removed exposing the glowing tubes, which looks very cool. A schematic diagram will be provided for future reference.
