Antique 1920s Westinghouse RA Receiving Tuner & DA Detector Amp Combo – Vtg Tube. Up for sale is a remarkably preserved piece of broadcasting history: a matching 1920s Westinghouse Type RA Receiving Tuner and Type DA Detector-Amplifier system. Originally designed by radio pioneer Frank Conrad, this early 100+ year-old battery set is a centerpiece item for any antique electronics collector or museum display. The black metal top panel is in exceptional condition with crisp, bright, highly legible stenciling. All knobs, dials, and binding posts feel mechanically smooth and adjust cleanly. Inclusions: Appears fully intact internally and includes an installed vintage vacuum tube. Also comes with an authentic, period-correct Cannonball Dixie single earphone. The original finished wood cabinet remains structurally sound and presents wonderfully. Note that the top leather carrying handle has broken off over the decades and is missing. Due to the delicate nature of 100-year-old electronics and a lack of a compatible early battery power supply setup, this unit is completely untested. All listings are written and posted by humans! The Caswell-Runyan Company in Huntington was formed 1907 for manufacturing cedar chests as a commercial article. The one story building from 1907 measured 150 x 200 with thermally insulated chambers (dry kilns) of 36 x 75. There were between 30 and 40 employees. In 1918 this was transformed into a three story building of the same size. At last, the Caswell-Runyan Company had 275,000 feet of floor space and was said to be the second largest wood working plant in Indiana. From huntingtoncounty: Caswell-Runyan Company, Inc. In 1929 Caswell-Runyan merged with Utah Radio Products Co. At the close of World War II a further merger was accomplished in 1946 when Utah Radio Products together with wholly owned Caswell Runyan Division merged with International Detrola Corp. (later name changed to Newport Steel) of which Utah and Caswell-Runyan was a part, was acquired by Merritt, Chapman and Scott Corp. This company liquidated the machinery and inventory of Caswell-Runyan in April, 1956 at which time Adolph H. Schenkel acquired the Articles of Incorporation of Caswell-Runyan Co. From Merritt, Chapman and Scott Corp. And reactivated Caswell-Runyan as a manufacturing operation. The company manufactures wood cabinets for Hi-Fi and Stereo music systems and employs 50 to 60 people.
