Up for sale, a 1966 Silvertone model 1484 “Twin Twelve” piggyback tube amplifier, fully serviced and complete with the original Jensen C12Q speaker pair and full compliment of vintage USA-made tubes. Manufactured by Danelectro in the USA and marketed through Sears via their house brand “Silvertone, ” the 1484 was one of the top-tier department store amps of its day, and also an amp that’s found favor with todays players including Jack White and Beck. The 1484 “Twin Twelve” has an extremely smooth and rich breakup, with warm clean tones at low volumes that give way to a touch of tube overdrive at roughly half volume, and reach full tube saturation with a touch of compression anywhere beyond 7 on the dial. Both channels feature a pair of inputs (high and low) and both channels share the built-in Reverb and Tremolo effects. While the Tremolo has a nice strong pulse that gets quite thick and deep, the Reverb is infamous in its own right for its thin, trashy sound that’s perfect for lo-fi and surf tunes, with a unique gain structure and chiming top end character. The circuit has been serviced with just a few new signal caps in the preamp as needed, and the power supply has been rebuilt with all new electrolytics as well, with a modern three-prong power cable installed as well as a conventional 1/4 female jack on the head for ease of use with other cabinets. The original power transformer is intact, and the output transformer is a modern, factory-spec replacement. The original CTS pots date to the 17th week of 1966, and the speakers are the original pair of C12Q Jensen 12 drivers which date to the 21st week of’66. The tube compliment includes a matched pari of small bottle GE 6L6s, along with the matched set of original Silvertone-branded preamp tubes, manufactured by the likes of RCA and Amperex. All of the original barrel knobs are intact on the polished aluminum faceplate, which also retains all of the original black silkscreen text. The original gray textured covering and gold sparkle grillcloth are intact. The cabinets show some modest edge wear, particularly on the speaker cab, yet the grillcloth has plenty of sparkle in the thread, and both the head and speaker cab are structurally sound. Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Twin Reverb in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original two-button footswitch and Fender-branded Jensen C12N speaker pair. Stunningly clean, this Twin’s condition is all the more uncommon given its size. While Fender’s smaller combos of the era can occasionally be found in pristine shape, it’s significantly rarer to find Fender’s gig-worthy large combos (which generally saw much rougher usage) as well-kept as this example. This Twin delivers warm, articulate cleans with ample bass response, a wide-ranging and responsive EQ, and present, sparkling Fender top end. When it comes to the quintessential Blackface Fender amp for clarity, headroom, and the balanced, authoritative response of a four 6L6 driven tube amp, it’s hard to beat the Twin. The tube-driven Reverb effect has incredibly depth and splash, and the Tremolo has a strong pulse with a wide range of speeds. It’s as iconic a design as Leo Fender ever created, also very well-suited to amplifying pedal steel or electric piano in the vein of a Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes. The circuit is extremely clean and straight, with all of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors in the preamp, a key part of the sweet, musical character of the Blackface-era preamps. The preamp features just a few new electrolytic caps, and the main filter caps have also been replaced with high quality F&Ts to guarantee decades of future trouble-free use. The power tubes are a quad of properly biased TAD 6L6GCs, and the preamp tubes are mostly modern valves as well from the likes of Tung Sol and JJ, while also including a pair of vintage Phillips 12AT7s for the reverb driver and phase inverter. All of the original Schumacher-made transformers are intact with dates spanning late 1965 to the first weeks of’66, and the original CTS pots have visible date codes from the 49th week of’65. The speakers are the original pair of Jensen C12Ns with Fender brown and gold foil labels on the ceramic magnets. The most favored speaker compliment for the Twin and also among the rarest, these speakers have clean black frames and date stamps from the 4th week of’66. These speakers easily handle the power of the Twin, and the speaker harness is original too. The tube chart is fully intact, with crisp corners and virtually unfaded paper, stamped with a bold “PC” date code which translates to March of 1966. The original black tolex is exceptionally clean, with only a few minor marks, primarily on the edges framing the grillcloth. The silver sparkle grillcloth shows only very faint darkening over the decades, and the faceplate is near mint, retaining its full compliment of original witch hat knobs. All of the original hardware is present and positively gleaming (save for some minor scuffs on the corners), including the chrome tilt back legs, nickel corners, sphinx glides, handle, and raised Fender logo on the amp’s face. Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Princeton Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with footswitch. Freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and boasting a full vintage tube set, the Princeton Reverb is the perfect amplifier for small club gigs and studio sessions. This classic Fender AA764 Blackface circuit delivers both well-balanced, sparkling cleans and smooth, harmonic-rich overdrive when you dime it out. The Reverb is extremely lush and the Tremolo has a nice pulse with a wide range of speeds. The circuit retains the original Schumacher output transformer (Fender’s primary transformer supplier in the era) along with a factory spec replacement power transformer. The preamp retains many of the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps (an essential part of the Blackface sound), along with a few replacement tubular caps and smaller electrolytics in the preamp. The larger multi-section can cap in the power supply has also been recently replaced to ensure trouble-free performance, and the power cable has been upgraded to the modern three-prong variety. All of the original pots are intact, dating back to’66. The tubes consist of a vintage matched pair of Magnavox-branded 6V6s with an RCA 5U4 rectifier and all vintage valves in the preamp as well. The speaker is a vintage Jensen C10Q, with a clean frame, traditional brown and gold Jensen foil sticker on the magnet, and 1967 date stamp on the edge of the frame. The speaker retains the original speaker harness as well, complete with the original speaker jack with Fender “F” cap. The tube chart is fully intact, with a “QC” date stamp from March of 1967. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are intact, with some modest edge wear on the tolex and uniform aging of the grill, with one small tear central to the cloth. The original faceplate shows a speckling of light wear with a full compliment of witch hat knobs, and the hardware includes a fresh pair of chassis straps along with the original handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logo. This vintage Blackface Princeton Reverb works exactly as it should, sounds great, and is ready for another 50 years of use. Vintage 50s Gibson BR-9 Tube Amp Amplifier With Jensen Speaker Excellent Condit. This an example of a perfect closet classic. This amp is from around 1956 as the Jensen field coil speaker is dated 1956. As the pictures show this amp was probably stashed in a closet for 50 years. It is completely original EXCEPT it has been professionally recapped using sprague and custom built capacitors and a 3 prong power cord has been added for safety. There is zero rust, zero corrosion, the wiring isn’t brittle or cracking and the solder joints are all original except as noted for recapping. There are a few few scuffs and small dings here and there but overall it’s in just amazing shape for a 65 year old amp. I think it’s eligible for medicare this year. This one has 2 6V6 power tubes, tube rectifier and preamp tube and I suspect they are all original also. The amp sounds wonderful to my ears. Clean and clear up to about 3/4 volume and then it starts to break up into a badass crunch. This amp has the serial number stamped into the chassis upside down so I suspect it was probably earmarked for another model like the BR-6. Gibson is famous for mixing and matching parts in the 50′s. This would be a great amp for studio, acoustic gigs or for that collector that seeks minty old gear. Up for sale, a 1956 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A transitional model, this early 5F1 circuit Champ is a very rare iteration with a narrow panel enclosure, 6 speaker, and 5E1 tube chart from the Champ’s previous circuit designation. With a bit more splat and looseness than the later 8 speaker-equipped Champs, the hallmarks of the 5F1 circuit are still evident with this amp. It’s a simple and elegant circuit that drives a single 6V6 power tube for everything from snappy cleans (with a single coil) to thick overdriven bark (achieved easily even at low settings on the dial with a P-90 or humbucker). There’s nothing that can match the rich dynamic sizzle of a 5F1 Champ, an essential studio tool that always punches well above its weight on a track. The circuit features the original Triad power transformer, with an output transformer of similar vintage with the correct output characteristics and size, yet not original to the amp. The original pot and jacks are present too, and the circuit has been rebuilt with premium preamp and power supply caps and all carbon comp resistors. The chassis retains much of the original white silkscreen lettering and stock chicken head knob too, with minor pitting on the chrome faceplate. The original Stackpole pot is present, and the era-correct Jensen speaker has a clean frame and original foil sticker on the alnico magnet. The speaker has also been recently reconed, guaranteed to handle the full tonal spectrum that the circuit delivers. The “FL” stamp on the tube chart translates to December of 1956, and the chart itself is very clean, still retaining the 5E1 circuit designation of the previous Champ iteration (a very common occurrence in Fenders of this era). The tubes are all vintage valves including a General Electric 6V6 power tube and 5Y3 rectifier. Cosmetically, the original lacquered tweed is well cared for with modest ambering, some fraying at the right front corner, and a bit of staining on the bottom of the enclosure, which retains the original four nail in feet. Both back panels are original as well as the baffle, which retains the original oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe, while the leather handle is a modern replacement. This very early 5F1 circuit Champ is clean, recently serviced, and equipped with a 6 vintage Jensen speaker. A great platform for effects pedals too, the cleans on this Pro are balanced, clear, and warm. Of course once you reach around 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly, and you get that dynamic, glassy sound that adds just the right amount of grit to your tone. The Reverb has plenty of depth and splash, and the Tremolo has a nice deep chop. Very original and well maintained, this Pro Reverb is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit is extremely original, with the original compliment of Schumacher transformers (Fender’s largest supplier of Blackface-era transformers), dating between late 1965 and the first weeks of’66. The stock CTS pots are all intact as well, dating to late’65, and the chassis stamp notes a 1966 build date. The preamp is untouched save for a few small electrolytic capacitors, and the amp retains all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps which are a hallmark of the Blackface sound. The power supply has also been professionally recapped. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed, and the amp is loaded with mostly vintage valves including a pair of likely original RCA 6L6GC power tubes. The speakers are the original pair of Jensen C12NA 12 ceramic drivers, and the speakers date to the 30th week of’65 with original foil stickers on the magnets and clan black frames. The tube chart is also fully intact inside the cabinet with crisp corners and a PB stamp which translates to February of 1966. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth is intact and in great shape, showing only light wear and still looking surprisingly clean after half a century. The cloth has only faint aging, and the tolex shows only some minor scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosure. The stock hardware is in great shape including original tilt back legs, chassis straps, corners, sphinx glides (feet), and handle. The faceplate is extremely clean, with a full compliment of witch hat knobs. This Pro Reverb has vintage tubes, a very original circuit, and a desirable Jensen C12NA speaker pair, sounding every bit as good as a Blackface Fender should!
