I took this amp to my repair tek back in 2006. The work performed is as shown below. Only the tubes shown are included no power tubes. No base cover plate. The choke is from a Hammond. Up for sale is this vintage Gretsch 6159 tube amp. The amp was made in 1965 by Valco. It is all original with 2 Jensen 12 speakers (both dating to 1965) and it still has the 2 prong power cable. Don’t let the “bass amp” logo fool you. These amps were made with the intention of them being used for bass, guitar, and/or accordion. I have been using the amp for guitar and it sounds amazing! It currently has Groove tube power tubes and all of the other tubes are RCA. It has an incredible tremolo that I would compare to that of a Magnatone. I prefer this tremolo over any other new or vintage Fender amp I’ve tried. The tremolo is very smooth with nice depth to it. Overall, the amp is in very good condition, especially considering it is over 50 years old. There are some marks in the tolex, a few stains and small snags in the grill cloth, and some oxidation on the chrome parts. It is rare to find one of these in all original condition and in this good of shape. Most of the examples I’ve come across have 1 or both grill cloth badges broken and have undergone modifications. Fender Pro Junior tube amp, covered in vintage blonde tolex. This first generation Pro Junior delivers classic Fender sound in a compact size, made in USA. Two EL84 power amp tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes, one volume and one tone pot for a pure authentic sound. With the tone knob fully open, you can get that famous Fender crystal clear sound. Speaker has been changed for. Please note there have some been modifications so that this does run as loud as a regular Fender Pro Junior (I don’t know any more than that, but have included some circuit photos). The volume is much lower, it does not distort when the volume is 6, or above and the tone is notably a lot warmer. The internal speaker is connected into the chassis with a jack plug, so you can pull this out and use an external speaker box (for example 4 x 12 at 8 Ohms) if you want. Thank you for looking. Up for sale, a 1951 Oahu Chicago Model 51, recently serviced and ready for stage and studio use. This early Oahu amp was manufactured in Chicago by the parent company, Valco, who made amps under the National, Supro, and Gretsch brands, among others. Powered by a pair of 6V6 tubes and voiced through a modern Jensen 10″ alnico speaker, there’s a midrange richness and detail to the breakup of these amps that is signature “Valco tone. The bloom, light compression, and creamy nature of the sound reacts well with a variety of guitar pickups and makes this amp a perfect secret weapon for studio sessions, and it really shines with a microphone in front of it. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, with new Mallory caps in the preamp where necessary, Sprague Atom filter caps, and a new three-prong power cable. The original Stackpole pots are intact, along with the original transformers. Mounted to the back panel, an external speaker jack has been installed, with an on/off switch to engage or disengage the internal speaker as needed. In addition to the new Jensen speaker, the original Rola speaker is also included. The amp retains the majority of the original white covering, with the exception of the bottom and left side of the enclosure. The black segmented grillcloth is intact and the metal “Oahu” badge is present, along with the original molded handle. It uses four 6L6 vacuum tubes for 40 watts per channel of output power. This unit comes with RCA 6L6 power tubes and a rare tube cage. It is in good cosmetic condition – with minor blemishes, scratches, and dents on the transformer covers. The lettering on the top plate is very good, but on one side a lot has rubbed off.
