1 Pair of Vintage Marantz 5 Monoblock Amplifiers Tube Amp Lot. Units power on as we brought them up slowly on a variac, all tubes come on. These amps were acquired by us a couple years back from an audiophile collection, back then we did test them and seem to remember there was issues with one if not both of the meters but they were producing sound back then. Due to the age of the items we would recommend them being serviced either way. These are in relatively good condition for their age; there is some scratches, scuff marks, stains, chips and dings; there is some noticeable marks on the side of one of the amps. Also a previous owner etched #s on the back panels of both units; not sure if there is a trick to filling them in to make it less noticeable. These units are getting harder to find; we were hesitant to even list them as we know we probably won’t ever own another pair. Up for sale here is this neat vintage Voice of Music tube amplifier, marked 20010 87 on the chassis. This is circa 1958 and is Made in USA. It normally uses a 6CA4 rectifier tube, two EL84/6BQ5 output tubes, and a 12AU7 and a 6AU6, but only the 6AU6 is included, sorry. This is a mono amplifier–you could match it with another for stereo, you could rebuild it as a guitar amp, or just use it as a mono amp. This is in good physical condition with light overall wear. There is no bottom cover. Everything looks original to me. It will be an amazing guitar amp once it’s done. I will guarantee the transformers to be good. Look at those neat vintage caps! Up for sale here is this single vintage Eico HF-20 tube amplifier, with serial number 7973. This came from a local tube guy, and came to me just as you see it. This is in fantastic condition, and includes all the tubes, the top cage/cover, and the bottom cover/feet as well. The bottom is missing a few screws, but has most of them. This is in really good physical condition, but here are some things to note. Light overall wear, some minor scrapes/scuffs. Knobs are all there and are in nice shape. Very light rust on transformers. Tubes are the ones that I got it with, and are untested. The outputs are a very mismatched pair–one is a 5881 and the other is a Sylvania 6L6GC. Cord is attached and seems fine. Circuitry may or may not be original–I don’t see anything modern, but I don’t know if this was ever updated. I will guarantee the transformers to be good. With regards to sound quality, the MC30 is considered to be the most desirable McIntosh model among audiophiles and collectors. It was only produced from 1954 to 1962, and unlike other McIntosh Tube amps there were no later model anniversary or commemorative editions produced. The restoration goal for this pair was to make these classics as reliable and as cosmetically clean as possible, without disturbing their special vintage sound quality. SkyFi Restoration Notes: New and professional reproduction chrome chassis. Multi-section filter can replaced, and new power resistors installed for the B+ Supply. Bias Diode replaced with a silicon unit. All signal path capacitors replaced with Solen branded polypropylene. Select out-of-spec resistors replaced on the peg boards. Bottom cover and transformers appear to have been repainted with textured matte black. New high quality RCA connectors. New Cinch barrier strips (also called a terminal block) for all speaker connections Both pieces have their original power cords but were reduced to 4 feet in length during the restoration for safety/to remove some past damage. Both MC30′s performed amazingly well on our bench tests. They are perfectly balanced to one another. Clipping at just under 35W each into 8 ohms. Tube Notes: Each MC30 is loaded with a carefully hand-selected set of vintage driver and rectifier type tubes. Alongside current production Tung-Sol 6L6GC output tubes. All tubes were tested and verified on our modern and professional Amplitrex AT-1000 tube tester. V1 – McIntosh 12AX7. V2 – NOS Philips ECG 6189W (12AU7). V3 – Vintage GE 12BH7. V4 – McIntosh 12AX7. We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our calibrated B&K 747 tester against the original manufacturers specifications. If needed, the tubes will be replaced from our vast NOS (New Old Stock) vintage or modern inventory. Final testing involves pushing actual music thorough the amplifier. We’ve learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we’re very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some amplifiers will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice. This pair of amplifiers is labeled “Dynaco Wired”, however they have underwent a significant modification at some point in the past. The majority of the electrolytic capacitors were replaced, film bypass capacitors were added to the various power supply rails, and slow start relay circuits were added to delay the B+ voltages. Other modifications may have been performed that we are unaware of that sharp Dynaco aficionados may recognize. Both amplifiers were tested to their rated power of 120W.
