Vintage Tube Amp

Up for sale is a terrific little tube amplifier from the 1960′s with a 12 speaker by Univox…. This hard to find gem is worth every penny we are asking! It is a full tube amp…. The power tubes are 6BM8′s , which are typically used in hi-fi stereos. And you all know how good those can sound! What I really love about this amp is how it overdrives. It has no gain knob or control, just a master volume. So like many class A, single ended one channel amps, this guy gets dirtier as you turn the master volume up. And of course, like any very good tube amp, your sound cleans up with a twist of your guitar’s volume knob downward! But dime this thing and it comes up with a very smooth and pleasing sounding overdrive, just like a tube amp should! As a matter of fact, this amp sounds great throughout the whole master volume range! I have a modded Epiphone Valve Jr. Head that starts to get loose and lose it’s smoothness and tightness when you turn it up all the way…. The speaker is super old and I’m going to guess original to the amp. It looks like one of those old Utah speakers and/or those vintage Fender alnico speakers. If I was going to replace anything on this amp, that would be the only thing, as it is very old after all. Add to all this that the amp has on-board tremolo! Man, this aspect of the amp sounds so good, it alone is worth the price of admission! It has such a huge and use-able range. You can go from really subtle / barely there when it’s engaged and turned down low. All the way to crazy fast tremolo mayhem when turned up all the way! Just an amazing feature that I love on these older tube amps! This amp has been serviced every year by one of the best, if not THE best amp tech in the Metro Charlotte, NC area. No scratchiness in the pots or wierd-ness in the sound. Tubes are fairly new so the amp is at full power and it sounds like it is! Tremolo has no issues and works perfectly! Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Twin Reverb in excellent condition and in great working condition! I believe everything in this amplifier, output transformer – reverb transformer – choke – power transformer, are original. Except for a few caps, resistors and tubes. I bought this amp up slowly with my variac when it started playing there was no hum, just great sounding music. I listened for about 10 minutes and shut it down. Before I shut the amp off I use the bias switch to set the bias on the output tubes to the proper line and that adjustment worked great. This amplifier makes it easy to set the perfect bias. The new owner should do this from time to time, or whenever you change tubes. This amplifier is not mint. There are some scratches that show it is 60 years old. Please use the many pictures provided to judge for yourself regarding the condition. They have used tubes and while they do work these used tubes should be replaced with good quality new tubes. Please consider these tubes as a free gift with the amplifier and as such have no value connected with the cost of the amplifier. While this amplifier is working and sounds great I have no idea if it will work for another 60 years or 60 minutes. Vintage electronics like this that have never been serviced can stop working. Before you consider using this amplifier on a regular basis you should have it checked out by a qualified person. All old capacitors, tubes, filters, and resistors should be checked before regular use. The answer is this unit can always be rebuilt, but once rebuilt it can never be all original like this again. Many collectors of vintage audio only want all original units like this, that have never been changed and are just like they left the factory. Some audio guys may want to rebuild this unit themselves using certain parts that they prefer. Many just collect rare audio items like this and never plan to plug them in, and they want only all original electronics. I will leave those choices to the new owner. The amplifier powers up and plays. I did not test everything. I had my neighbor look at the amp and he says that the wiring and tubes should be cleaned and gone over. He is not saying that the wiring or tubes are bad, but since this is 45 years old it should be checked out better. The pedal in the picture has been cut and needs to be rewired. Not sure if the pedal is good or bad. I was told that the serial number on the chassis date the amp to around 1972. It looks like the tag with the serial number is missing part of the tag. The cabinet is in decent but not perfect shape. This amp is 45 years old so please do not expect to show up at my house and have a perfect amp. I bought that amp earlier this year and it has not been touched by anyone. When you come to my house I will power it up so you can see it gets power.
