Vintage 1974 Ampeg V4-B Bass Guitar Tube Amp Head
Thursday, April 18th, 2019Vintage 1974 Ampeg V4-B Bass Amp Head. I just pulled this amp out of storage where it’s been for nearly 2 decades. I don’t have a bass so I tested it out with an electric guitar just to make sure everything is functioning properly. I played it for about a half hour but didn’t take the volume above 4. It’s been idle for a long time and I think it should get the once over by a tech before really pushing it. The good: All the controls worked properly. Every knob and switch seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. Additionally, when it was last retubed when 7027As were still available, (no longer the case) so it has a nice set of Magnavox branded 7027 output tubes. The bad: The lamp for the power indicator is burned out (the standby light works fine) The amp has normal scuffs and scrapes you’d expect from a heavy amp head and one big spot where the vinyl is missing.
