The fine item you are considering is a Vintage Alamo 2×10 Combo Tube Guitar Amplifier Amp. This cool vintage Alamo tube amp sports a pair of 6V6s for power tubes, and two original 10 speakers. The amp is basically working but it has some issues, these being that while the normal channel works perfectly and sounds fantastic at higher volumes (great break up and very spanky) the Vibrato channel looks to have what I think is a bad pot, which is very crackly (loud crackles when turned) and isnt allowing the volume to be as loud as it should be. Also, it doesnt appear that the vibrato effect is functioning. One of the paper cones on one speaker is torn, but I cant hear it effecting the sound, and otherwise the amp shows typical wear from age and use, but makes a great vintage appearance. The amp measures 23 long and has a nice chrome front plate. Please see my photos to have a look at this nice item. Amp works and sounds good. This model was the top of the line, most expensive. All point to point hand wired. I shot 2 videos: 1 prior to me removing from the cabinet…. And the 2nd after being removed from cabinet. In the 1st video, it states it comes with original tubes. I HAVE CHANGED OUT THE EL842 AND 12AX7S AND THATBIS THE STATE IT IS IN DURING the 2nd video. Also the 2nd video states I could not locate the original knobs. I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL KNOBS as shown in the pics I took the next day. One knob is missing the inner sleeve that keeps the knob on snug. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take a moment and watch the videos… They describe and show the condition best. Should be worth at least that now! Just to clarify: Unit works and comes complete with all tubes but not original tubes. VOX AC30 HEAD CLONE PROJECT. I PICKED THIS UP FROM A GUITAR STORE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO BUILT IT. IT WAS IN NON-WORKING CONDITION WHEN I BOUGHT IT, SO I BROUGHT IT HOME, FIXED SOME BROKEN SOLDER JOINTS, REPLACED THE FUSE, REPLACED THE WEBER COPPER CAP RECTIFIER (THOSE SUCKERS NEVER WORK RIGHT ANYWAY) WITH A RUSSIAN GENALEX GZ34 AND GOT IT TO FIRE UP. THIS AMP SOUNDS REALLY GOOD, VERY SIMILAR TO MY 62 AC30, BUT A BIT BRIGHTER (WHICH ISN’T NECESSARILY A BAD THING). PLENTY OF VOLUME AND IT BREAKS UP BEAUTIFULLY. THIS WOULD BE A PERFECT AMP TO GIG WITH SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAUL YOUR PERSNICKETY VINTAGE VOX AC30 AROUND TO GIGS. THE REASON I’M LISTING IT AS A PROJECT IS BECAUSE IT IS OVERHEATING AFTER 5 – 10 MINUTES OF USE. WITH WORK, FAMILY AND OTHER PROJECTS, I JUST DON’T HAVE TIME TO GO THROUGH THE CIRCUIT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE OR ISSUES ARE. I SUSPECT THAT THE ISSUE IS NOT A VERY DIFFICULT ISSUE TO FIX. THERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL SOLDER JOINTS THAT COULD BE CLEANED UP, BUT OVERALL THE PERSON WHO WIRED THIS AMP DID A PRETTY SOLID JOB ON A FAIRLY COMPLEX BUILD. THE CABINET AND PARTS ARE GOOD QUALITY AND THE FITMENT ISN’T BAD. NICE LEATHER HANDLES AND BRASS VENT COVERS. IT HAS AN INTERNAL SELECTOR FOR 4 OR 8 OHM OUTPUTS, WHICH IS NICE. THE POWER AND PREAMP TUBES APPEAR TO BE ALL JJ TUBES. THE REPRODUCTIONS ARE BUILT IN CHINA WITH PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIX WHEN THEY BREAK. These Mark III’s have just been completely gone through and had numerous updates to improve reliability, but these amps have not had any audio path mods, hacks, or “hot rods”, and remain true to the original Dynaco sound and character. The Quad caps are brand new, replaced with the upgraded versions from Dynakit, The coupling caps and bias caps were replaced. The old selenium rectifiers were updated with modern parts for better reliability. The rectifier circuits have had updates to extend the life of the rectifier tubes. The input jacks were replaced with new jacks and the old screw terminals were upgraded to binding posts. These amps have also been upgraded with bias balance controls. This update allows the bias to be setup properly for each tube and eliminates the need to have perfectly matched output tubes, allowing for greater flexibility if you want to experiment with different tubes. Amps come with: New 5AR4 Shuguang rectifier tubes (arguably the best new rectifier available today). 1 amp has a vintage National 6AN8 and the other a Dynaco branded 6AN8. The output tubes in both amps are vintage RCA 6550′s. They sound, and work, great. Cosmetics are very nice, I would say above average. There is some very small pitting on the chrome chassis of both units, but overall the chrome still looks very good and has a nice shine. The cages look great. The cages are included, so is the original manual. I have the original “Black Cat” coupling caps I will include if you want them. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with vintage Jensen C12N speakers in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and complete with fresh JJ 6L6 power tubes. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. This amp is one of few to retain the original AA165 guts! The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to early 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. The majority of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the preamp and the circuit has been thoroughly maintained with new main filter caps and a few smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “OG” date stamp which translates to July of 1965. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Jensen C12N speakers, and these 12 drivers are arguably the most desirable speakers for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The dark greenish blue frames are quite clean, and the speakers date to early 1964. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex. A new solid pine baffle has been installed (superior in both tone and reliability over the stock MDF baffle) and new silver sparkle grillcloth has been installed on both the head and cab and appropriately aged. Most of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, and sphinx glides (feet). Both Fender logos are modern replacements. The original faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of patina on the hardware, and some expected scuffs and minor wear around the edges of the enclosures, but as the photos show, this Bassman presents very well and wound look great in a studio collection. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures.
