Vintage Acoustic Model 165 Tube Guitar Amplifier. Up for sale is a vintage Acoustic 165 tube guitar amplifier. This one was made in the USA, circa 1980, serial number 165001608. This one was just serviced by our amp tech and it sounds great. The speaker is the original Electro Voice one it came with. It does some have some non original knobs and sliders, and it’s missing the wood rear cross member that went in front of the tubes. The cabinet is solid, with no cracks, though it does have some scratches/wear from being lugged around for nearly 40 years. Why should you care about the Peavey VTM 120? Simple, this is one of the best heads I’ve ever owned. The thing you will hear about the head is that it is essentially a “hot-rodded JCM800″, let me be the first to tell you, that is absolutely nonsense. This amp sounds nothing like a JCM800, it is entirely its own beast. It is one of the final heads in a long series of chains that leads to 5150, however I will argue that Peavey got it right at VTM and the quality only went downhill after. The most unique aspect of the head are the dip switches. There are eight switches in all, including: two extra stages of gain, compression circuit, two low end modifications, mid range modification and finally two high end modification switches. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Deluxe in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the famed AB763 circuit and Pre-CBS features including the “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and early no-logo cabinet, this amp has an incredible amount of headroom and power, something that instantly sets it apart from its reverb equipped brother. Since the addition of the reverb effect into the Fender circuit essentially adds another gain stage, the non-reverb Deluxe really stands out as Fender’s premier 1×12 Blackface combo amp, with incredible warmth, EQ balance, and clarity. Perfect as a platform for pedals and an ideal amp for studio use, this Deluxe captures the quintessential Fender clean sound, with smooth tube overdrive and a hint of compression at higher volumes. The tremolo has a strong, even pulse as well, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is extremely original, and the stock Schumacher-made transformers date to Spring of’65. The filter caps and smaller bypass caps have been replaced with top-tier Sprague components to keep everything operating within original factory specifications, and the circuit is otherwise untouched, with all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps intact in the preamp. These caps are essential to the rich, musical quality of the Blackface-era circuits. The CTS pots are all stock as well and date to the 12th week of’65. The power tubes are a pair of vintage matched gray plate RCA 6V6s which have been biased to perfection and sound particularly good, along with a vintage 5U4 rectifier. The preamp tubes are a combination of newer and vintage valves, all working as intended. The speaker is a vintage Oxford 12L6 with a clean black frame and original blue foil Fender label on the magnet. The original tube chart is intact and particularly clean, with an “OF” date code that translates to June of 1965. The amp also is from only the 2nd production run of the Blackface Deluxe, making it a notably early example. Cosmetically, this is an extremely clean and well cared for amplifier, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. As the photos show, the tolex is extremely tidy and the faceplate is quite clean as well, with a set of minty witch hat knobs. This Deluxe would look great in a studio and is an example that will satisfy players and collectors alike. Pr Altec 340A Vintage Tube Amplifiers, 1950s, Clean, Serviced, Close SN. S/N: 461 & 466. Both amps have the same Peerless transformers. Parts number on the Peerless decals: Power 6142, output 16345. Very close serial numbers clean 1950s matched pair. Amps are the same circuit – schematics are paper labels on the bottom pan. No modifications to circuit design. At some point, most likely the 60s or 70s three of the same front end capacitors in each amp were changed to vintage Cornel Dublier and Sprauge. There a few very minor chips along the bottom edges of the amps. Chassis and transformers are rust free and the paint has the original glisten. The camera picked up all kinds of reflections in the paints during the snapshots. It is not unusual to see some potting compound leak from the transformers. In this case there are stains under the output transformers of each amp. In my experience this is not a sign of any trouble. Raytheon 6550 output tubes have been tested and matched on an Amplitrex AT1000. I have experienced Raytheon 6550 tubes in government contractor’s inventory. Raytheon made a very high quality product. The AT100 does a very thorough job of testing each tube twice and carefully testing for gas and increased current draw during each tube tested. The 12AY7 and 12AU7 front end tubes are quality vintage 1960s tubes, and measure almost high. What makes these amps so unusual and have such great sound is the 0A2 regulator tube on the 6550 screen voltage. Regulation is an added expense in manufacture cost but the sound quality makes it all worthwhile. This is a solid pair of classic low production amps that sound very clean, much cleaner sound than the competition’s 6550 amplifiers. The combination of clean detailed sound and the characteristic tube amp sound quality sounds great even today. New owner should be aware power supply capacitors this old will need replacement at some time. Please have the services of an experienced tube technician for future parts upgrade. This Guitar Amplifier is Tweed de-luxe style amplifier (clone) with the famous 5e3 hand wired circuit. Handbuilt by myself, I have been building Amplifiers of all types since about 1968. Please note that the name Tweed Deluxe 5E3 is a Fender product, this is similar, designed to recreate the classic sound and feedback potential of the late’50s. Great pride is taken in the design of each amplifier and I take pride in using USA parts wherever possible. All wiring is hand done of course and the end result has been tested and tuned over a period of months to ensure reliability. All feeds to the tube heating elements are twisted and tucked into the corners of the chassis. All other wiring is carefully placed and shielded as well to avoid noises. End result is a beautiful tone, whether you want mellow or crank it up and play some Jimi Hendrix, have at it. It breaks up nicely when driven, great distortion and feedback if desired. This is a LOUD Amp. By the way, I saw Jimi in Chicago in August of 1967, blew my mind and I have been playing with amps ever since.
