Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bandmaster head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Pre-CBS Fender piggyback amp features original smooth blonde tolex and a AA763 circuit, typically only seen on the very first Blackface amps. The rare combination of cosmetics on this amp was only seen from the last months of 1963 through mid-64, and this amp sounds particularly good with a matched pair of brand new and freshly biased Tung Sol 5881 power tubes. This Bandmaster delivers the incredible cleans which are a hallmark of the Blackface tone, with sparkle, clarity and definition unlike any amps before or since. Pushing the amp beyond 4 on the Volume dial on either channel yields natural grit and tube breakup, overdriving hard when you dime the controls. The tremolo has a nice strong pulse and a very dimensional sound with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is very clean and original, with the stock Schumacher transformers dating from late 1963-64. All of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp and an essential part of the Blackface Fender tone, while the main filter caps have been upgraded to Sprague Atoms to ensure that the circuit is working optimally. The original CTS pots are all intact too, with visible date codes from the 40th week of 1963. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. In addition to the Tung Sol power tubes, the amp features a pair of USA-made General Electric 12AX7 preamp tubes along with modern valves from the likes of Mullard and EH. The original tube chart is mostly intact inside the head, with an ML date stamp that translates to December of 1963. The original smooth blonde tolex shows some scuffs and light signs of wear on the edges of the enclosures, and the baffle has been freshly regrilled with wheat grillcloth and fitted with the original raised Fender logo. The back panel is a modern replacement with matching smooth blonde tolex. The hardware shows its fair share of surface patina yet is all accounted for including the corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and piggyback clip bars. This early Blackface Bandmaster features stock transformers, fresh power tubes, and a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. Up for sale, a 1960s Echo Twin-Amp 45 vintage piggyback tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Exceedingly rare outside Japan and manufactured by Miyuki Ind. , this Echo amp was designed to capitalize on the success of Fender’s larger Blackface era amplifiers, yet has a sound all its own and actually more akin to a Music Man, with a EL34-based power section. Fully serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this Twin-Amp 45 features 45 watts of all tube power, a closed back cabinet design with original pair of alnico 12 drivers, and built-in Tremolo and spring Reverb. Channel One is designated the Reverb/Vibrato channel and is sonically more. On the scooped side, with a present top end cut and a taut bass response. The Reverb has a lush, splashy character, and the Tremolo controls have a wide sweep and particularly deep chop when required. Channel Two has a bit more power and punch, with a fat low end, a wooly low midrange character, and smooth treble. The tag board circuit has been thoroughly recapped with brand new Sprague Orange Drop capacitors, and the original power and output transformers are intact, while the reverb driver is a replacement. The chassis itself is quite clean, and the black silkscreened faceplate has its full compliment of original large barrel knobs. Remarkably, the complete matching set of original Matsushita tubes is also intact. Inside the cabinet, the original stock 12 speakers are present with clean frames and viable original cones. Taking its cues from its Fender contemporary, this Twin-Amp 45 features smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth that has aged over the decades. Aside from some minor scuffs and edge wear, there is very little wear to report, and this Echo Twin-Amp 45 is not only rare, but completely serviced. 1961 Gibson GA-8 Discoverer combo guitar amplifier. This vintage amp is in perfect working condition with zero issues and it sounds glorious, extremely similar in sound to a Tweed Fender 5F1 Champ but louder due to its dual parallel 6V6 tubes. These amps are very sought after for its Tweed Champ tone but at more usable gigging volumes. It has been very well cared for its entire life. It is all original with the exception of the 3-prong ground power cord, three capacitors, and a 2009 Jensen C12Q speaker. The original burgundy wine tolex looks great with only a couple tears, largest of which is on the front right top corner. The top control plate has some wear but the majority of the lettering is visible as shown in the pictures. The handle works great. Vintage Ampeg B-15N Portaflex fliptop amp has some cosmetic wear but sounds great. Since its introduction in 1960, the B-15 has been used on countless classic recordings, and it remains the standard for studio bass amps. This is a used but working tube PA amplifier. All the tubes test at least good on an emissions type of tube tester. One of the 7027A output tubes has a broken keyway. The tube works great but requires care in inserting it into the socket properly. All three inputs work: 2 microphone and 1 phono. Newcomb rated this at 75 Watts using 7027A output tubes in push/pull configuration. It was tested using a CD player into the phono input in the back using an RCA connector. It was tested using an electric guitar into the microphone inputs using the 1/4 microphone jack. I also used a y-connector so that the electric guitar can be plugged into both of the microphone inputs at once. It was plugged into a 4×12 speaker cab. There are screw terminals for 2, 4, 8, and 16 ohm speakers. This amp will overdrive when turned way up and it will move some serious air. It can also be used in 25 and 70 volt installations.
