The tubes are 6 Telefunken and 4 Dumont 7591. This unit still looks very good all around. Only has scratches/stains on the outer rim of the front. No dents or damage. All tubes are intact and working. All functions have been tested by our tech and everything works very well. Sound is clear, powerful, and evenly balanced. We tested all buttons, listened for hours, and did not detect anything abnormal. Please be advised that we did not do any servicing and do not know the service history. Best of all it’s fitted with vintage GE tubes that tested really well on our modern and professional tube tester. Not sure how many pieces were actually modified, but I have not found many examples of this amp online. So it’s relatively rare. This one looks great and sounds amazing. This listing is for a Vintage 1950 Hoffman PPP 6K6 Mono Tube Amp, Ideal for converting to a Parallel Push Pull Harp or Guitar Amplifier or for restoring a Hoffman console. It came from a Hoffman model 538 radio / record player and comprises the power & amplifier section of chassis # 168 (the tuner section will be listed separately). The schematic is in Rider’s Volume 22, which covers 1951, but both the tuner section and the speaker have 1950 dates, so that’s what we’re going with. The tube lineup is 4 x 6K6GT, in PPP, driven by a 6J5GT with a 5U4G rectifier. Prior to listing it was brought up on a variac and played well. This vintage pair of McIntosh MC60 monoblock amplifiers were modified by a hobbyist at some point in the past. One amp has a choke in the power supply, the other does not. The amp without the choke also has some neon bulbs on the tag board as shown in our listing photos. The slight differences in design do not affect the final outcome, as they tested the same in our lab and in our listening tests. Both amps were tested at our bench and fundamentally work. Both were driven into clipping with a 1 kHz sine wave and meet the official McIntosh 60W power specification. Although these amps technically work, we recommend further service/restoration before putting them into daily use. They are both good bones for a restoration, or someone looking to experience the glory of vintage tube monoblocks from McIntosh. During our testing we did notice an intermittent issue where the grid bias of one output tube would drop, causing the associated tube to red plate (not what you want to happen with any tube in operation). This issue was resolved by swapping out the final 12AX7 tube before the output tubes. Please note this listing includes the 2 x MC60 units, along with the vacuum tubes pictured in our images. The Dynaco Stereo 410 is a two channel power amplifier employing all silicon semiconductors. They include 38 transistors, 2 zener diodes, 24 diodes, and 3 thermal sensors. The output circuitry is of the full complementary symmetry design. The entire amplifier, except for an input network, is direct coupled. It’s measured distortion levels approach the threshold of much laboratory test equipment, not only at the commonly specified full power ratings, but more importantly at very low power outputs as well. This is the result of circuit techniques which eliminate any discernible crossover notch at low levels, and contributes to the Stereo 410′s freedom from listening fatigue. It’s accurate, uncoloured sonics have been achieved on a wide variety of loudspeaker loads, including electrostatics and multiple drivers with complex crossovers. The design of a superb power amplifier implies the necessity of several protection techniques for the amplifier, and for the speaker load. In addition to the AC line fuse, four separate B+ fuses are supplied.
