Up for sale, a 1951 Fender Pro, fully serviced and retaining the original tweed and transformers, complete with a vintage tube set. This was the very first iteration of this classic lacquered tweed “TV front” model, and this era Pro is perhaps best known as being the amp Buddy Holly recorded all of his hits on at the Norman Petty studio in New Mexico. The baffle and face of the cabinet have been altered (presumably to resemble the later “narrow panel” Tweed amps) with a more squared-off appearance and modified baffle mounting brackets. A very powerful and high fidelity amp in its day, the Pro pushed close to 40 sweet and dynamic tube watts through one 15 Jensen P15N alnico speaker. The early octal preamp tubes give these TV front amps a different tonal color than any later Fenders, as the octals have a more girthy midrange and a kind of warmth that can’t be achieved with the later dual triode (12AX7, etc) tubes Fender used from the mid-1950′s through the present day. Just like you’d expect with Buddy Holly’s cutting and robust rhythm sound, the Pro can give you primitive Fender cleans that chime and growl, with surprising headroom and a tone that overall really fills out the frequency spectrum when paired with Fender’s single coil pickups of the day. The circuit has been maintained faithful to original factory spec, with a full recap of the power supply with high quality Sprague Atom filter caps. The preamp has replaced caps as well, with replica white Astron sleeves on what appear to be genuine vintage blue Ajax capacitors (as Fender would use in their later Brown and Black Panel amps). The original trio of Stackpole pots have visible date codes from the 18th week of’51. The original Triad power transformer is intact, along with the stock output transformer mounted to the speaker frame. The amp has also been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a pair of properly-biased vintage USA-made RCA 6L6GCs, with a GE-branded 5U4 rectifier and trio of RCA 6SC7 preamp tubes. The chassis is in great overall condition, with only a light speckling of patina and the majority of the original white silkscreen text intact. All three original chicken head knobs are present too, along with a modern leather handle and original metal Fender logo on the face. The Jensen P15N speaker is stock, sporting a clean dark green frame and original Jensen foil label on the bell cover. The original tube chart is present as well and very clean with crisp corners and hand-inked serial number. The original low contrast diagonal tweed is intact, and the tweed is deeply ambered. The tweed covering is no longer present on the bottom of the cabinet, and the baffle has been regrilled with vintage-style oxblood/gold stripe cloth. As the cabinet’s face was altered from the TV front design to a more squared off appearance, the baffle is mounted to the cabinet by a number of L-shaped brackets.

Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Pro in museum-grade condition and in perfect working order complete with the original footswitch and a complete vintage tube set. One of the very first Brown Panel amps to leave the Fender factory, this Pro is jaw-dropping in its presentation, purportedly a test amp at the Fender factory, given to an employee with only two subsequent owners. Early Brown Panel design elements of this Pro include the lighter pinkish brown-colored tolex than later offerings, an RCA speaker jack, and a dark green frame alnico magnet Jensen P15N speaker. This amp delivered 40 powerful, articulate all-tube watts via a vintage USA-made pair of matched Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes. The Pro boasts Fender’s unique “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit, and this complex design was Fender’s only true pitch-shifting vibrato offered in an amp. Swampy, thick, and very Leslie-esque, it’s a three-dimensional, full-bodied tone unlike any other Fender. The perfect middle ground between the dynamic, saturated tones of the earlier Tweed era amps and the shimmering cleans of the later Black Panel line, this Pro has a very warm and nuanced sound, with plenty of clean headroom before pushing into saturated overdrive. The circuit offers EQ controls that have a very wide sweep for everything from classic hollow twang to warm, sweet sounds that will delight any Jazz player. The circuit is extremely original, serviced sparingly only to ensure optimal functionality. The preamp retains all of the original yellow molded Astron caps which have a sweet, musical quality central to the sound of Fender’s early’60s circuits. New components are limited to the main filter caps and smaller electrolytics in the preamp, all cleanly sleeved in their original Astron Minimite wrappers. The transformers are a combination of Triads and Schumachers (Triad being Fender’s primary Tweed era transformer supplier, and Schumacher supplying most of the transformers in the Brown Panel era). While the Triads don’t have date stamps on the transformer bells, the Schumacher-made choke dates to the 30th week of 1959. All of the original CTS pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 10th week of’60. The tube chart is intact, and the “JK” date stamp translates to November of 1960. And while the tube chart notes the 6G5 circuit, this is actually one of the first examples with the 6G5-A circuitry. The speaker is the original Jensen P15N alnico magnet driver with a clean dark green frame, blue foil Jensen label on the magnet cover, and date stamp from the 30th week of’59. The speaker has also been professionally reconed. Cosmetically, this Pro is immaculate in its presentation, retaining the original pinkish brown rough brown tolex and oxblood grillcloth. The faceplate is also in remarkable condition, complete with the full set of original brown barrel knobs. The original flat Fender logo, sphinx glides (feet), and nickel corners are present, along with the original, very well-preserved and unbroken dogbone handle. The original footswitch is included, along with a replica slip cover that’s just a hair shorter than the cabinet.

Speaker Cabinet from the 70′s. Measures 20 inches Tall, 24 Inches Wide, 15 Inches Deep and weighs 45 pounds. Bought it from the original owner who played. In a Polka Band. She cut the Cabinet in half. Making a single 15 inch cabinet that’s easier to travel with. Adding a piece of Plywood to the bottom. Cosmetically in Well Used Condition with quite a bit of wear as shown. About 10 years ago I put another speaker. From my Traynor Bassmaster and it sounds great. Works well with Bass and Electric Guitar. A great find, conversation piece and nice addition to your collection. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Be sure to check my other auctions this week for more great items.

1963 Fender Vibroverb Vintage Blackface Pre-CBS Tube Amp 1x15 with JBL D130F, Ftsw

Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Vibroverb in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. An extremely original and stunningly clean example of Fender’s rarest and most desirable Blackface amp, the Vibroverb was only made in the Pre-CBS Fender era, lasting from late-1963 through’64. This is one of the very first Vibroverbs made, with an extremely low A003XX serial number, Production Run #1 stamp on the tube chart, transformers dating between Fall 1962 and Summer’63, and even a brown two-button footswitch, an exceedingly rare accessory only officially offered with the Brownface 2×10 Vibroverbs produced a few months before this Blackface model began production. Perhaps best known for its association with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Vibroverb delivers 40 tube watts via a pair of 6L6 power tubes and a JBL D130F speaker. The tone is clear and powerful, with dynamic Fender cleans that sparkle and twang. The highly efficient JBL speaker keeps things clean and tight, with very little speaker cone distortion even at high volumes, letting the light compression and velvety tube overdrive of the circuit be heard with stunning clarity when you push the amp near 10 on the volume dial. The Reverb has plenty of splash and dimension with a long decay, and the Vibrato (technically tremolo) has a strong, smooth pulse. The circuit is extremely clean and stock, with all of the original Schumacher-made transformers intact. The rare open bell output transformer dates to the 42nd week of’62, while the choke and power transformer date to the 7th and 27th weeks of’63 respectively. Visible date codes on the Stackpole pots date to the 18th week of’63. The preamp retains its full compliment of original blue molded Ajax caps, a key ingredient of the sweet, musical sound of Fender’s Blackface circuits. The power supply features a professional recap of the main filters with F&T caps, and the smaller bypass caps in the preamp have been upgraded as well, along with the bias cap and pot. The original two-prong gray power cable is still intact. The tubes consist of a modern pair of Sovtek 5881 (6L6) power tubes, with a genuine vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier and a host of modern and vintage valves in the preamp including a few RCAs. The tube chart is intact and very clean, with crisp corners and an “MK” date stamp for November of 1963. The original JBL D130F speaker has a recone with a WHF cone and proper aluminum dust cap, and the speaker has a full, robust sound with no voice coil rub and incredible articulation. Cosmetically, this amp is an absolute stunner which has likely lived its life in the studio, due to the absence of any notable cosmetic wear. The stock smooth black tolex is exceedingly clean, and the original silver sparkle grillcloth has only aged sparingly, with lots of sparkle left in the thread. The original hardware is all intact and clean, with only the faintest patina on a couple of the corners and on the original Pat. This is a collector-grade and well maintained vintage Fender Vibroverb, ideal for the stage, studio and discerning player! The original brown two-button Reverb/Vibrato footswitch is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet and original JBL D130F speaker. The amp boasts a full compliment of modern valves, including a quad of properly biased Ruby 6L6s, and this Showman has a sound that is powerful, clear, and sparkling. As Fender’s flagship amp boasting a whopping 85 watts of all tube power, the Showman is a real powerhouse for guitar, bass, or your favorite Fender Rhodes or combo organ. The low end is ample and thick, and the amp has plenty of headroom and efficient clean power until about 6-7 on the Volume knob where things start to compress and overdrive. Fresh back from our techs and ready for another half century, this Showman is dialed in for stage and studio use. One very unique and desirable feature of the Showman is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This large 1×15 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone with a stock JBL D130F speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This elegant design makes the Showman cab work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. Plus it just looks so impressive! The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D130F sounds incredible with a professional recone. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced and is very original, with a virtually untouched preamp save for a few small electrolytics. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are intact with a sweet, musical tone that’s a hallmark of the Blackface sound. The original power transformer is intact, dating to the 18th week of’65, while the output transformer and choke are genuine vintage Fender transformers substituted later in the amp’s life and dating to 1970. Other important date codes include the CTS pots, with visible date codes from the 12th week of’65. The power supply has also been professionally recapped, and the tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet too, with an “OE” date stamp that translates to May of 1965. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the hardware is intact (with the exception of new back panel screws on the cabinet), including chrome tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. The amp shows some nicks and scuffs around the edges of the enclosure, and the grill on the head and cabinet has aged uniformly. The original one-button footswitch to engage the Tremolo is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
