Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Pro in museum-grade condition and in perfect working order complete with the original footswitch and a complete vintage tube set. One of the very first Brown Panel amps to leave the Fender factory, this Pro is jaw-dropping in its presentation, purportedly a test amp at the Fender factory, given to an employee with only two subsequent owners. Early Brown Panel design elements of this Pro include the lighter pinkish brown-colored tolex than later offerings, an RCA speaker jack, and a dark green frame alnico magnet Jensen P15N speaker. This amp delivered 40 powerful, articulate all-tube watts via a vintage USA-made pair of matched Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes. The Pro boasts Fender’s unique “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit, and this complex design was Fender’s only true pitch-shifting vibrato offered in an amp. Swampy, thick, and very Leslie-esque, it’s a three-dimensional, full-bodied tone unlike any other Fender. The perfect middle ground between the dynamic, saturated tones of the earlier Tweed era amps and the shimmering cleans of the later Black Panel line, this Pro has a very warm and nuanced sound, with plenty of clean headroom before pushing into saturated overdrive. The circuit offers EQ controls that have a very wide sweep for everything from classic hollow twang to warm, sweet sounds that will delight any Jazz player. The circuit is extremely original, serviced sparingly only to ensure optimal functionality. The preamp retains all of the original yellow molded Astron caps which have a sweet, musical quality central to the sound of Fender’s early’60s circuits. New components are limited to the main filter caps and smaller electrolytics in the preamp, all cleanly sleeved in their original Astron Minimite wrappers. The transformers are a combination of Triads and Schumachers (Triad being Fender’s primary Tweed era transformer supplier, and Schumacher supplying most of the transformers in the Brown Panel era). While the Triads don’t have date stamps on the transformer bells, the Schumacher-made choke dates to the 30th week of 1959. All of the original CTS pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 10th week of’60. The tube chart is intact, and the “JK” date stamp translates to November of 1960. And while the tube chart notes the 6G5 circuit, this is actually one of the first examples with the 6G5-A circuitry. The speaker is the original Jensen P15N alnico magnet driver with a clean dark green frame, blue foil Jensen label on the magnet cover, and date stamp from the 30th week of’59. The speaker has also been professionally reconed. Cosmetically, this Pro is immaculate in its presentation, retaining the original pinkish brown rough brown tolex and oxblood grillcloth. The faceplate is also in remarkable condition, complete with the full set of original brown barrel knobs. The original flat Fender logo, sphinx glides (feet), and nickel corners are present, along with the original, very well-preserved and unbroken dogbone handle. The original footswitch is included, along with a replica slip cover that’s just a hair shorter than the cabinet.

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This genuine vintage Brown Panel era Princeton features a very original 6G2-A circuit. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive when turning up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too. The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers which date to the 39th (power) and 46th (output) weeks of’61, and the preamp retains all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps, which have a particularly sweet, musical tonal character. The original Stackpole pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 43rd week of’61. The power supply features a new multi-section can cap, and two smaller Sprague electrolytic caps in the preamp, all ensuring reliable use. The tube complement includes all vintage valves, with a matched pair of vintage JAN 6V6s, a Silvertone-branded (RCA) 5Y3 rectifier, and vintage preamp tubes as well. The speaker is the original gold frame Oxford 10J4 speaker, with a date code on the edge of the frame from the 21st week of’62. The original tube chart is intact, retaining an “LA” date stamp which translates to January of 1962. Cosmetically, this amp features the original rough brown tolex, wheat grillcloth, and the stock leather handle. There’s a bit of light staining and scuffing on the edges of the enclosure, and light patina on the original handle caps and chassis straps. The faceplate is very clean, retaining the original brown barrel knobs. A modern replica Victoria Luggage-style slip cover is included.

Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bassman in perfect working order. The last iteration of the Brown Panel-era “Piggyback” Bassman with smooth blonde tolex and gold sparkle grillcloth, this Fender drives two Sovtek 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube power. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brown Panel circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge sweep, and after around 5 on the Volume dial, the amp cascades into rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and is particularly roaring and thick. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well-designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat this particular Bassman circuit for a tone that bridges the gap between the dynamic grit of the Tweed circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Black Panel line. The circuit is extremely original and professionally serviced with just a couple new smaller electrolytics in the preamp and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp, an essential part of the sweet, musical character of Fender’s Brown Panel circuits. With stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth-covered leads. All of the Schumacher-made transformers are intact, with date codes from early 1964. The tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet. The tube complement includes a pair of Sovtek power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes consist of a combination of vintage and modern valves. The head retains the original smooth blonde tolex and gold sparkle grillcloth, a cosmetic combination only seen in early 1964. The tolex exhibits some various marks commensurate with age, with a couple spots of light staining where sap in the knots of the pine cabinet has made its way through the tolex, and some cigarette burns on top. The raised Fender logo on the head is original, and the black faceplate retains its full set of cream barrel knobs. The hardware includes the original piggyback clip bars, nickel corners, sphinx glides, and handle.

Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Bassman in excellent condition and in perfect working order, featuring the original matched pair of Oxford 12M6 speakers. An early iteration of the “Piggyback” Bassman with rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth, this Brown Panel-era Fender drives two Sovtek 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brown Panel circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge sweep, and after around 5 on the Volume dial the amp cascades into rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and is particularly roaring and thick. The circuit is very original and has been well-maintained and recently serviced with fresh F&T filter caps. A few new smaller electrolytics in the preamp, and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp, an essential part of the sweet, musical character of Fender’s Brown Panel circuits. With stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth-covered leads. All of the Schumacher-made transformers are intact, with date codes that span late 1962 and early’63. The tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet. The tube complement includes a pair of Sovtek power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes consist of a combination of vintage and modern valves. The cabinet retains the original matched pair of Oxford 12M6 speakers, with date stamps on the edges of the frames from the 43rd week of’63. Both speakers also boast professional recones, ensuring a particularly clear sound with refined, tight bass response. The cabinet is missing its internal central divider, of virtually no sonic consequence. Both the head and cabinet retain their original rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth. The tolex exhibits some various marks commensurate with age, with a couple spots of light staining where sap in the knots of the pine cabinet has made its way through the tolex. Both flat Fender logos on the head and cab are original, and the clean faceplate retains its full set of cream barrel knobs. The hardware includes the original piggyback clip bars, nickel corners, sphinx glides, and tilt-back legs, with a new pair of leg stops. The dogbone handle on the head is original, and the one on the cab is a modern Fender replacement. Nice bass response and also breaks up really easy… I never even pushed past 3/4 volume…. There are 2 channels, the third channel i believe was for a phono but is not hooked… The 1 and second knobs are marked mic.. The 4th knob is power and treble… Sounds between a thunderbolt the the bass response of a twin… Overall this is a great amp.. The channel 1 had a bit static. The Concert is the successor to the tweed Bassman 4×10, with a great sound and the famous harmonic vibrato that is unique to the brown face amps. Overall, this is a fantastic sounding vintage amp that is plenty loud enough to gig with, and a great value compared to other vintage Fender amps. This one has been serviced and had a few parts replaced (including the OT and speakers), so its a reliable player grade amp. There’s a couple small holes in the top from another handle, and holes on the bottom from casters, and general wear and tear from a 58-year-old amp, but it looks pretty good overall and sounds wonderful. Im no amp expert when things get technical, so please review the photos carefully, below is a recap of whats been changed or updated, from the previous owner. Fender Brown Concert 1961.
