Up for sale, a 1981 Hiwatt Custom 50 DR504 head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This very original and freshly serviced head delivers thick crunch and pummeling low end grind. Extremely powerful and clear with a pair of JJ EL34 power tubes, this Hiwatt can achieve saturated roar and robust cleans, and it’s as nuanced, bass-rich, and commanding of a sound as we’ve ever heard from any British tube amp. This amp is loud, efficient, and searing, with an incredibly dynamic, touch-sensitive responsiveness. The amp features a late’70s-style two input preamp circuit, with each input dedicated to a discreet channel, Normal and Brilliant respectively. These inputs are summed in the next preamp tube, followed by a Master Volume and an additional gain stage not seen in the early’70s Hiwatt models. Essentially a 50 watt version of the venerable DR103, this Hiwatt has the incredible headroom and muscle that defined the early Hiwatt sound, and is one of the last to feature this earlier circuitry before Hiwatt would bow to the pressure of adding more gain to their models. The circuit is very original and freshly serviced, with stock Partridge transformers. All of the original mustard caps are intact in the preamp, and the power supply has been recapped as necessary to ensure optimal, reliable power and tone. The back panel of the chassis has a few silver plugs from previously removed mods, and the original Hylight badge is intact. The tubes include a brand new properly biased pair of Electro Harmonix EL34s as well as a host of modern preamp tubes. This is a Custom made Cabinet with a MC-25 Masco chassis. The amp is driving out of 2 X 12 speakers.. 1 speaker is a vintage Oxford 2ND speaker Rola.. The amp sounds amazing. Has some serious power. Nice bass response and also breaks up really easy… I never even pushed past 3/4 volume…. There are 2 channels, the third channel i believe was for a phono but is not hooked… The 1 and second knobs are marked mic.. The 4th knob is power and treble… Sounds between a thunderbolt the the bass response of a twin… Overall this is a great amp.. The channel 1 had a bit static. But seemed to go away.. 2 ND channel ran strong and quiet.. The amp weighs 53 LBS…. CA, NV, WA, FL, TX. VINTAGE 1960′s CUSTOM KRAFT 600 A AMPLIFIER, ORIGINAL, 1- 8 SPEAKER? This is an original Custom Kraft amp I’ve never seen another amp like it, the grill covering is gray has a bit of glitter to it.. This has a 8″ speaker I did not measure it but it looks like and 8″ If you have questions I would be happy to respond. I was recently told this may be a Lectrolab. I looked it over and that may be correct. The 3 tubes from the right to the left are 1- 35W4, 1- 50C5 and 1- 12 AU6, This one has humm I would guess a filter cap it has more hum now than when I first listed it. Up for sale, a 1960 Magnatone Custom 250 tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A rarity in any condition, this vintage Magnatone is 100% original aside from a couple capacitors swapped to keep everything operating within original factory spec. Even the tube set is a complete vintage compliment from the likes of RCA, General Electric, Amperex, and Sylvania. One of the cooler and less common mid-size Estey-era Magnatone amps, the 250 boasts a single 12 alnico Oxford 12L5N speaker powered by a pair of 6973 power tubes. The characteristics of the 6973 valve are similar to the more common EL84, with a smooth midrange character and dynamic breakup at higher volumes with perfect top end bite. Whether you’re looking for surfy hollow twang or surprisingly thick overdrive, this Magnatone easily supplies a range of classic tube driven textures. Magnatone’s legendary frequency modulated pitch shifting vibrato effect is present on the Custom 250, with a width and warble unequalled in tube amp design. This vibrato circuit is in one word “lush, ” and while it functions in mono inside the speaker cabinet, a 1/4 extension speaker jack allows the effect to bounce back and forth between two cabs if desired. The vibrato can be engaged via the included original “doorstop” footswitch. The point-to-point circuit boasts the original Schumacher transformers which date to the 34th and 36th weeks of 1960. The original blue molded Ajax capacitors in the preamp have a smooth and musical character, and are the same caps at the heart of Fender’s Blackface era circuits. Other date codes of note include CTS pots which date to the 31st week of’60 and the original Oxford 12L5N speaker which dates to the 40th week of 60. The faceplate is notably clean, with all of the stock knobs and graphics present. The original smooth brown leatherette covering is in remarkable shape, and while the corners show some customary light wear and scuffs, the amp presents very well. The brown and gold grillcloth is similarly clean, and the original Magnatone logo is intact with a slightly bent chevron wing.
