No mid-fi, no gimmicks, no junk. Each piece of equipment is cosmetically restored and fully tested in our well-equipped lab by an engineer with 30+ years of experience in the HiFi world. Through our sister company, which is an authorized dealer for McIntosh, Audio Research, Sonus Faber, ClearAudio, Project, and Sony ES, we have access to OEM parts, service, and support. The MV50 is one of our most beloved and versatile tube amplifiers from CJ. The MV52 takes it to the next leveI. Our in-house tube expert went through this amplifier carefully to ensure it meets full and original factory performance. PLUS this example was factory upgraded from an MV50 to MV52 in August 1993. Tube Notes: (4) Matched Quad New Svetlana EL34 (2) Philips ECG 6CG7 (2) GR 5751. Cosmetic Notes. Right channel terminal block has some minor damage. Left handle slightly bent but barely noticeable. Great bit of info from CJ: CIRCUIT DESIGN It has been our experience that simple designs with few active stages when executed with care and great attention to detail will be both more musical and more reliable than overcomplicated alternatives. Accordingly, the audio circuit of the MV52 is remarkably straightforward. A triode input amplifier comprised of paralleled sections of a 5751 is direct coupled to a cathode coupled differential phase inverter using high current triodes to provide balanced, low impedance drive to the pushpull output stage. The output stage features ultralinear operation which permits high power levels while greatly reducing the source impedance of the stage. As a result, the amplifier is capable of supplying the large current demands of high amplitude musical transients driven into reactive speaker loads. A substantial main power supply of massive polypropylene capacitors enables the MV52 to easily meet these extraordinary current demands. Voltage regulators for the voltage amplifiers and phase inverters provide nearly absolute isolation of these sensitive stages from the output stages. 45 watts per channel RMS both channels driven into 8 ohms from 30Hz to 15KHz at no more than 1% total harmonic distortion or intermodulation distortion. 750 mv to full power. 20Hz to 20KHz +0.5dB. 90dB below full power output. 11.5D x 19W x 9H inches. The SkyFi Testing Process for Tube Amplifiers. We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking. We then power up the unit carefully and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise. Finally we run the amplifier to its full rated power into the appropriate resistive load provided by our Sencore amplifier tester. If there is an issue, it will usually be noticeable at this point. If it all looks clean we will often test for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) measured by our Keithley distortion meter, and compare it against the original manufacturers specifications. The amplifier the remains powered on to “burn in” on our test bench for a few hours to make sure there are no heat related issues. If there are balanced inputs available they will also be tested. We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our modern and professional tester against the original manufacturers specifications. If needed, the tubes will be replaced from our vast NOS (New Old Stock) vintage or modern inventory. Final testing involves pushing actual music thorough the amplifier. We’ve learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we’re very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some amplifiers will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice. We have too many items for sale and it’s nearly impossible to keep track of offers outside of the official system. We accept trade-ins of equal or lesser value under certain conditions. Please visit our website to submit your gear for full consideration. We will only consider high-end equipment from mainstream manufacturers such as McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Krell, etc. And will typically pass on displays, projectors, receivers, dated surround processors, and mid-fi equipment of any type. We will offer a fair value for your equipment, but keep in mind we’re running a business and will need to be able to resell the equipment at a profit after investing a great deal of time and resources in testing, certifying, repairing, cleaning, and packaging the incoming equipment. SELL US YOUR GEAR (Working or Broken). Simply visit our website to submit your gear for full consideration. We are currently operating from our shop inside our dedicated building in Glen Rock, NJ. We have several well-equipped and dedicated listening areas, plus a dedicated listening studio with tons of equipment of all makes and models. We’re not a store, so please don’t make an appointment if you’re just curious as to how a speaker or piece of equipment sounds. In essence – no tire kickers please. This is super useful when purchasing large speakers or heavy amplifiers. It’s also great for ensuring your new turntable is setup correctly in its final resting place. Up for sale, a 1958 Fender Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A golden era narrow panel “tweed” amp with an incredibly detailed and dynamic range of tones, this amp is a true rarity, featuring a Fender factory retolex in early pinkish-brown rough brown tolex circa 1961. Sitting squarely in the realm of “go find another, ” this Deluxe has a distinct visual appearance and all the raucous, touch-sensitive overdrive and sweet harmonic richness that defines the 5E3 model and narrow panel era of Fender Tweed production. At low volumes this Deluxe can deliver sparkling cleans that are round and powerful, with two distinctly voiced channels that overdrive beautifully. There’s plenty of rich roar and sizzle on tap when the amp is pushed to its max, and the single tone knob has ample range for sculpting the low end or adding treble zing. Especially when connecting the two channels with a small jumper 1/4 cable, the interactive pair of Volume controls can dial in everything from fully saturated snarl to particularly sweet, buzzy qualities with ideal midrange bite that you often times can’t coax out of any other Tweed circuit. This amp reacts well to a host of effects pedals and different guitars, but truly shines with the guitar plugged straight into the amp, using your volume knob to govern clean rhythm tones and singing leads with the twist of a knob. The circuit is extremely original, with stock Triad transformers and CTS pots that date to the 37th week of 1957. The power transformer retains its original windings, and the output transformer has been recently rewound to original spec. The preamp retains three of the famed yellow Astron capacitors, giving the circuit a certain sweetness that no modern cap can match. The power amp has been professionally recapped with F&T capacitors and a few of the smaller electrolytics have been upgraded as well and fitted in the original Minimite sleeves for a clean, vintage look. The tubes include a matched pair of RCA 6V6s with a 5Y3 rectifier and USA-made valves in the preamp too. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong. The speaker is a modern Jensen P12Q with a green frame and alnico magnet construction closely matching’50s Jensen spec. The tube chart is intact and extremely clean, with paper that is only lightly faded, crisp corners, and an “HA” code, dating the amp to January of 1958 (the latest date on the amp). The chrome on the chassis still has plenty of shine, and much of the original white silkscreen lettering is still present on the panel, along with stock chicken head knobs. A new leather handle has been installed, retaining the original fasteners. The rough brown tolex is in great shape, and this distinctive tolex tint and texture has never been replicated since Fender’s original use from 1960-63. Both back panels are original as well, along with the Oxblood gold stripe grillcloth on the stock baffle.
