Up for sale, a 1946 Gibson BR-1 combo amplifier in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This rare Gibson dates to the earliest days of guitar amplification, produced in limited quantities, with only a few hundred made between 1946-49. This particular iteration is also notable for featuring a green felt stenciled “G” on the aluminum grill, an extremely uncommon feature only seen on select few surviving amps and likely only used in first-year examples from’46. The BR-1 is arguably one of the most important amplifiers of the early days of rock and roll, and was the amp used by Danny Cedrone to record the iconic solo on Bill Haley & His Comets’ landmark Rock Around the Clock, the first rock and roll song to experience significant commercial success. This BR-1 pushes around 12 watts and offers distinct voicings via two Instrument inputs and a single Microphone input. The Microphone input is far and away the most aggressive, quickly pushing into fuzzy, sizzling breakup, while the Instrument inputs have more headroom and retain clean, warm sounds with a very pleasing chug that evokes the earliest days of rock and roll, particularly when paired with a set of single coils. The Tone knob has a limited sweep: rolling it off results in a slightly gentler, spongy sound, and when opening up the control this amp really starts to sing, with a full-bodied sound and just a touch of natural gain. Or, roll off the Tone and crank up the Volume for a thick wooly heft and roar similar to a classic fuzz box, particularly via the Microphone input. The amp retains the original transformer pair, and the power transformer dates to the 17th week of 1946. The original 12 field coil speaker is present, with the output transformer mounted to the speaker frame. There are only a couple modern capacitors in the preamp, and a three-prong power cord has been installed. The tube complement comprises a pair of JAN Philips 6L6WGB power tubes, a Tung-Sol 5U4GB rectifier, and an RCA 6J5 preamp tube. The amp retains its original smooth brown covering with only minor edge wear, and gold “Gibson” text is silkscreened on the top edge of the amp’s face. The perforated metal grill plate is extremely clean, retaining the green felt-stenciled “G” and original trio of brown Bakelite knobs. The original leather handle is also intact.

Just serviced with a matched quad of valve art el34 power tubes and all new 12ax7 preamp tubes, Everything is working. Amp is all original minus the tubes. Original caps, Transformers, etc. Cosmetically the amp shows slight normal wear for an amp of this age. This includes small marks and tolex wear. Ready for a new home. Thanks for stopping in. Up for sale is a Univox U-1226 Amplifier restoration. This amp is fully restored and in excellent condition. You will not find many of these in this condition. Intended for guitar, this amp’s tone circuitry and effects remain true to the original designer’s intentions. This amp sounds great, has lots of vintage sound, and plenty of punch. This amp is equipped with two (2) channels, Channel 1- High Boost, and Channel 2- Normal, each with Normal and Bright inputs with individual Volume controls. Channel 1 incorporates a High Boost Pull Switch on the Channel Volume. The two channels then mix into a single tone section incorporating Bass, Middle, Treble, and Presence controls. Channel 1, additionally, feeds the Reverb circuit incorporating a Pentode Driver and Accutronics (USA) pan and is provided with a Reverb Depth Control. A Bias Wiggle Tremolo circuit (a departure from the 12AU7 Driven circuit which tends to be noisy) rounds out the effects with Speed and Intensity Controls. Both effects are full and deep. This amp achieves clean output up to 51 Watts RMS. This amp is equipped with an all-vintage pre-power tube line-up and includes a well matched pair of Svetlana 6L6GCs. This amp has low noise (a choke, similar to those in the higher power Univox units, has been added to keep noise in check), has been burned in, extensively tested, and documented. This amp is provided with schematics including an As-Built and As-Restored conditions. An impedance selector switch allows for choosing between 8 and 16 ohm outputs. The U-1226 has a bit higher power than the earlier two 6L6GC models, and unlike most of them, has a TMB Tone Section and Presence, providing a greater array of tone shaping. Channel jumping can also provide some additional variation, mixing the Normal and High Boost Channels. A Custom Lighted foot switch and Amp Cover with embroidered Emblem are available at additional cost. This amp includes a number of safety and protection upgrades including IEC power cord connection with grounding, AC line safety capacitor, varistor surge protection, HT fusing, an HT discharge resistor, and OT output protection resistor. The transformers are original. All power supply and other electrolytics, and resistors beyond 10% of their original ratings have been replaced. An adjustable fixed bias circuit is original to this circuit. This amp has new knobs, new black Tolex, new hardware, new handles, and new rubber feet. There are minor scratches, imperfections, and metal oxidation typical of an amp over 50 years old. During this period, you may return the unit for any reason. A detailed explanation of the problem(s) is required prior to the unit’s return. SLA Restoration LLC will make every attempt to repair the unit, unfortunately, there may be vintage parts that cannot be replaced with modern alternatives.
