For sale is a cool oddball amp. Magnatone twilighter 260r twin 10 amp. Got this on a recent estate pick. Will need work and servicing. Ive never had it working or tried. Just assumed whoever buys it will know more about it than I will. Information found on Google. Twilighter was a brand Magnatone used on a line of amplifiers during the late 1 950s and the early 1 960s for LoDuca Brothers in Milwaukee. The LoDuca Brothers were a maior distribution company in the 1960s. Magnatone (Estey) built these amps, which were almost all clones of Magnatones, and put a Twilighter logo on the front instead of Magnatone. Essentially all Twilighter models should have a corresponding model with Magnatone. Known models include the Model 213R. Any further information on Twilighter amps can be submitted directly to Blue Book Publications. Amplifiers previously produced by Magnatone during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Please look over all pictures and ask any questions prior to purchasing.

The Magnatone Estey M10 “suitcase amp” is a mid-1960s vintage tube amplifier known for its signature pitch-shifting vibrato effect, driven by a varistor circuit, a big round clean tone, and a thick overdrive when pushed. Part of Magnatone’s “Suitcase” series, these amps featured a portable design and a two-channel configuration with a spring reverb and controls for volume, tone, and vibrato speed. They were originally designed for guitar, bass, and accordion, and their features like the tone stack, original cover, and footswitches contribute to their iconic vintage appeal. Key Features & Characteristics Pitch-Shifting Vibrato: A hallmark of Magnatone amps, this effect uses varistors for a unique, true pitch-shifting vibrato, different from standard tremolo. “Suitcase” Design: The M10 belongs to a series of portable, suitcase-style amplifiers known for their distinctive look and ease of transport. Dual-Channel Operation: The M10 is a two-channel amp, allowing for versatile tonal options, including clean sounds and thick overdrive. Tone Control: It features a tone stack with “mellow, ” “bright, ” and “tone boost” settings, the last of which creates a unique “cocked wah” sound. Spring Reverb: Many M10 models include a long-spring reverb, further enhancing their vintage sound. Tubes: The specific tube configuration varies by year and model, but they are generally tube-powered. Musical Applications Versatile Use: Originally designed for guitar, bass, and accordion, the M10′s rich tone made it suitable for various musical applications. Iconic Sound: Musicians today still seek out M10s for their distinct “big, round clean tone” that can also produce a “thick overdrive”. Vintage Appeal: The M10 is prized by collectors and players for its authentic vintage vibe, sound, and features like its original cover and footswitches. Key Characteristics Tube Power: A valve-driven architecture that produces authentic tube warmth and rich harmonic depth. Two Channels: Offers different sonic possibilities, with one channel providing clean, full-bodied tones and the other adding more grit. True Pitch-Shifting Vibrato: A signature feature that creates a unique, watery, warbling tone. Spring Reverb: A sweet, long-spring reverb that sounds fantastic on this amplifier. Speaker Configuration: Depending on the specific model year, it might feature a custom 10-inch speaker, or an 8-inch Jensen with a 3-inch tweeter. Varistor Circuit: The vibrato effect is created using a special semiconductor component called a varistor. Versatility Musical Styles: Ideal for jazz, blues, rock, and country styles. Instrumentation: Suitable for guitar, bass, and accordion. Dual Use: Designed for both studio use and small venue gigs. Up for sale, a 1957 Magnatone Custom 213 Troubadour in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original wooden “doorstop” footswitch and full vintage tube set from the likes of Amperex and RCA. An early example of this Troubadour model, the Custom 213 is fresh back from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with a clean bill of health. One of the cooler and less common mid-size Magna Electric-era Magnatone amps, the 213 boasts a single 12 alnico Oxford speaker, delivering 18 all tube watts. Whether you seek round, sparkling cleans or surprisingly thick overdrive, this Magnatone easily supplies a range of dynamic tube-driven textures. Of course one of the main draws of any Magnatone is the true pitch vibrato, and with a width and warble unequalled in tube amp design, this vibrato circuit is in a word lush. The point-to-point circuit boasts the original transformers (Thordarson power transformer, no definitive markings on the presumably Triad or Schumacher-made riveted-mounted output transformer), and the preamp retains many of the original signal caps with a few high quality tubular Jupiter “dynamite” caps used where needed. The original CTS pots are all intact, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. There is a small silver plug central to the faceplate (renaming the “Troubadour” to the Troubado) from a removed aftermarket mod. Tubes include Amperex and Thomas-branded valves in the preamp, with a pair of well-matched 6V6 power tubes and a coke bottle 5V4 rectifier. The original Oxford 12KR alnico magnet speaker has a very clean frame, with a bold date stamp from the 25th week of’57. The original model sticker is intact in the cabinet too. The original smooth brown leatherette covering is intact and incredibly clean, along with the wheat grillcloth and unique back panel, also with original grillcloth. The faceplate is in wonderful shape, complete with all of the original knobs. The leather handle is a modern replacement. This amp is fully serviced and ready to be played, complete with the original large wooden “doorstop” footswitch to engage the vibrato.

Please take the time to read about this guitar amplifier and message me with any further questions: this is old and showing signs of cosmetic wear, commensurate with age. The cabinet has a few cracks seen (though it remains in one piece), and the green pearlized wrap has chipped in some places. The power cord is solid, but the sheathing on the braided wires leading to/closest to the speaker have become frail over the years and are now wrapped in electrical tape. One of the dial knobs are missing, but knob turns as it should. The unit powers on and tubes light up, however, I’m not getting any sound from the speaker, but I do hear static. May be something super simple like a grounding issue, in which case, my loss is your gain. If no takers, I’ll be taking the amp to a tech for a refresh and relist once working fully. This unit does come with the back cover plate, a lot of times when these show up on the market the back cover is missing, likely in part due to them not staying on very well, which this one doesn’t, but it is included!

Check out this mid 50′s Magnatone Starlet amp that I hot rodded into a Fender narrow panel tweed champ! Originally the starlet is an ACDC amp with no power transformer. These typically sound kinda weak, SO I gutted the circuit and added a vintage new old stock stancor power transformer from the 50′s, kept the original speaker and output transformer and built a narrow panel 5f1 champ circuit inside! The results is a super hot rodded maggy! TONS of hot gain and sounds fantastic with every single guitar. Great for low output guitars too like a kay thin twin etc because it has so much gain! The video I made with les paul is only on 3! Grounded cable ALL new caps and resistors. Original cab is in fantastic shape and even has most the original waterslide decal on the front. I have never seen a starlet in this nice of shape. Lots of natural wear and tear. Original button alnico speaker that works great but I cannot promise how long it will uphold if you abuse the amp with pedals or put a metal guitar through it. Watch the video and see how awesome it sounds! This is a killer piece!
