They are really well-made, and sound wonderful–and this one is 12AX7/EL-84-based, which makes it super convenient and inexpensive to retube/keep running, as those are some of the most popular tubes in the guitar amp world. I had this one restored around 5 years ago, with all important signal caps changed, and everything else left as-is if operational. I replaced all the critical audio signal path tubes with new-production matched Russian tubes. I have put about 200 hours on it over the years, and it has always brought joy! You just don’t get sound like this in new-production hifi. I recently had the speaker terminal block replaced with modern binding posts, as the old screw-type were really worn and not safe. This work was done by a stereo repair shop in my area with over 50 years of experience, and they commented on what wonderful condition this receiver was in, and how rare it was. Operationally, it works very well–the radio isn’t as good as a Fisher, for sure, but it sounds good and will pull in stations given an aerial. I used it mostly like an integrated amp, feeding a modern DAC into it for listening. For a brief period I actually used this in a basement home theater to watch old movies with great soundtracks–”Elevator to the Gallows” was so memorable I remember it clearly to this day. I ended up seeking out a vintage copy of “Jazz Track” which I enjoy to this day. The only niggle I found when using the amp was a “pop” when I changed inputs. This never bothered me. Cosmetically, it is in good condition, although the casework isn’t quite a pretty (to my eyes) as similar-vintage US receivers from that golden era. But it’s unique, sounds wonderful, cheap to run, and totally rare, which is a winning combination in my book! I expect this unit to give you many years of service, but obviously due to the extreme age and vintage nature of electronics, there are no guarantees. I will pack it exceedingly well, and it will arrive as you see in photos. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and form your own “Elevator to the Gallows” memories!

Vintage Pioneer SX-800 Tube Stereo Receiver Amplifier 1965 Recapped 12ax7 7189a. Here is a 60s Pioneer SX-800 tube receiver. This was rebuilt in 2017. Every Suzuki capacitor and many resistors changed out. Good stuff was used!! I believe the rectifier changed to the newer style too. See pics for the work. It was our go to winter stereo, then got sidelined. It ran for hundreds of hours in the cool garage no problem. Almost always had the top off this thing it gets warm. I added tall rubber feet to let the air in. I started tube rolling, as the 12ax7 tone tubes change the sound a ton. They are now Electro Harmonix, a budget but great sounding tube. I like the sovtek lps too. There are tons out there.. Id search for new/nos 7189as. There are 2 GE and 2 with no markings. They sound great its just not a matched set. Remember these are not the 300V 7189, el84 or 6bq5s. These are the hotter 400 volt series. Music sounds crystal clear, sharp treble and good bass, but there is a tube rustle kinda sound that clears as it warms up. Not a hum just an underlying background ghost noise. When it warms up it is goes away. The first couple minutes I usually just keep the volume low and then start crankin! This is 25wpc but with good horn speakers it sounds punchy for sure, even pushing 15 altec 421s with the loudness switch on! Please inspect pics you can see the new caps and resistors top and bottom. There are newer style speaker connectors, and a new 2amp fuse holder. The pots work and arent scratchy. FM radio is sharp. This is old, and tube gear is finicky for sure, however this has been on for hours sounding great! This sounds crisp and clear, it is awesome, and the background noise is dead quiet. It is just a neat sounding unit. Writing this I dont even want to sell it, I just have a lot of stuff not being used and we have other projects to finish.. This will be boxed properly. A crossover network that emphasizes various functions and basic performance so that you can enjoy a wide range of multi-amplifiers from 2-way to 4-way. Band division can be multi-way up to 4 ways with 4 divisions of Low / Mid-Low / Mid-High / High. The cutoff frequency is 11 points select for each 1/3 octave, and high cut and low cut are independent. The level control of each band has adopted the attenuator type of 1dB step. There are 3 types of cutoff slopes to choose from: 6, 12, and 18 (dB / oct). 6dB / oct and 18dB / oct have an attenuation of -3dB at the crossover point, but in the case of 12dB / oct, if you cross at -3dB, the characteristics may rise due to the phase relationship, so 12dB / oct Only in the case, it is set to -6dB cross. Pioneer SA 508 also known as SA 5800 in the US, comes from well known and regarded Pioneer Fluoroscan series. The unit is very clean and in collectable condition.
