Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Princeton in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This rare, transitional “tuxedo” Princeton features the Brown Panel 6G2 circuit with Black Panel cosmetics, a pairing that only lasted a few short months. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive as you turn up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too. The circuit is 100% original, with the stock pair of Schumacher transformers which date to the very first weeks of’64, and a chassis stamp that dates to 1964 as well. The preamp retains all of the stock yellow Astron and blue molded Ajax caps, central to the sweet, musical quality of Fender’s golden age circuits. All of the original CTS pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 8th week of’64. The tube complement includes a pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6 power tubes, with a pair of vintage preamp tubes from the likes of RCA, and a vintage 5Y3 rectifier. The tube chart is fully intact inside the cabinet, and the “NE” date code which translates to May of’64. The speaker is an era-correct square magnet CTS 10 driver, matching the cosmetics and tonal characteristics of the original driver. The original smooth black tolex is extremely clean with only a few minor scuffs and light edge wear, while the baffle retains its silver sparkle grillcloth which shows very minimal aging. All the stock hardware is present including chassis straps, sphinx glides, handle caps, and a set of original white barrel knobs. All of the original CTS pots are intact, with visible date codes form the 39th week of’63. The tube compliment includes a matched pair of Tung Sol 6V6s, with a pair of Tung Sols in the preamp as well, along with a vintage RCA rectifier. The tube chart is fully intact inside the cabinet, and the “NC” date code that translates to March of’64. The speaker is an era-correct Jensen C10R dating to the 20th week of 1964, freshly reconed and very sweet sounding. The original smooth black tolex is extremely clean with only a few minor scuffs and light edge wear, while the baffle itself has been upgraded with a solid piece of pine and aged silver sparkle grillcloth, work which appears to have been done by the late, great Larry Rodgers. All the stock hardware is present including chassis straps, sphinx glides, handle caps, and a set of original white barrel knobs. The original footswitch is included. This is a super clean 64 transition Fender Princeton. The 6G2 circuit is the one with no reverb but the tube driven tremolo. I bought this from someone who deals with estates and it looks like it sat in someones closet untouched for years. A few dirt smudges here and there but overall it is in incredible condition. Amp was just serviced by Skip Simmons amp repair. He has a website if you are not familiar with him and he repairs vintage amps from all over the country. The only components that have been changed are a can cap that was bad and a volume pot. Some of these transitional Princetons came with a 250k volume pot from the factory instead of a 500k volume pot as designed. All orginal parts will be included. This amp will also come with a really nice heavy coveramp cover. You would be hard-pressed to find on in better condition. The amp will come with both the original speaker and a Jensen reissue. For some reason I could not get the original speaker to produce any sound. The cone is perfect and the speaker looks to be in perfect condition.
