Up for sale, an early 1970 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced early in the Silverface run, this amp still has many of the hallmarks of the earlier Blackface design and circuit-wise is identical to the “drip edge” amps that preceded it. Tonally, the amp does everything you’d expect of your favorite Vibrolux Reverb, with a balanced, sparkly clean tone and just the right amount of headroom before giving in to smooth tube saturation and overdrive. There’s a reason why the Vibrolux is currently one of the most collectable and sought after vintage Fender amps, as it’s ideal for recording and also the perfect size for club gigs without overwhelming your bandmates. The balanced tone of the two 10 ceramic speakers, matched with a tube rectified 6L6 based circuit simply can’t be beat! Add Fender’s famed tube driven reverb and tremolo on top and you have one of the best tube amp designs ever conceived. The original Schumacher transformers date between late 1969 and early 1970 and the circuit has been serviced with new filter caps and bias cap to ensure that everything is operating as it should. All of the original CTS pots are present as well, and the amp has been upgraded with a heavy duty modern three-prong power cable. The speakers are a pair of era correct Oxford 10L6 10 ceramic speakers which are freshly restored. These speakers have cleaned and repainted black frames, new Fender blue foil labels, and professional recones. The tubes consist of a variety of newer and vintage preamp valves as well as a matched pair of Groove Tubes/Sovtek 6L6s. Cosmetically, the amp is very clean with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The black tolex shows very little wear, and all of the stock hardware is intact. There is moderate wear on the silver aluminum faceplate, with some light scratches, but all of the text is bold and present, as well as the blue trim around the knobs. The original Fender metal logo (with tail) is intact on the face of the amp, along with the stock sphinx glides (feet), corners, and handle caps. The original two-button footswitch is included. Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Vibrolux in excellent condition and in good working order. This rare 1×12 “Brownface” version of the Vibrolux is a bridge between the Tweed and Blackface models in both specs and tone, with a glassy, touch sensitive quality, robust cleans, and rich overdrive characteristics when you dime it out. Pushing 35 all tube watts through a vintage Oxford alnico 12LN speaker, there’s plenty to love about the versatility and tone offered by this Fender. The amp has plenty of clean headroom and the sweet sag of a tube rectifier, and when pushed above 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly and cascade into sweet overdrive with just enough bite. The bias-based tremolo circuit also has a very strong, thumping pulse that’s notably deeper than later Fender circuits, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is freshly serviced and largely original, retaining the original Schumacher output transformer and choke. The power transformer is also a genuine Schumacher and properly spec’d for this amp, although it dates to 1965. All of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp and an integral part of the sweetness and clarity of the circuit. All of the stock pots are intact as well with largely original solder joints and cloth covered wire. The circuit has been professionally recapped with high quality Sprauges and F&Ts for the capacitors in the power supply and the smaller bypass caps as well. The bias cap also has a small trim pot piggybacked on it to perfectly dial in the bias of the matched pair of 6L6 power tubes. The amp has also been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The preamp tubes are a mix of vintage and newer valves, although the first two tubes (the drivers for each channel) are vintage Tung Sol 12AX7s that sound particularly hi-fi and musical. The power tubes are a matched pair of Groove Tubes. The speaker is the right make and model for this amplifier (Oxford 12LN) and era-correct, although it dates a bit earlier than the amp with a code on the edge of the frame which translates to 1957. The tube chart is also partially intact inside the cabinet. Cosmetically, this amp would look great in a studio, with original rough brown tolex. The amp features modern wheat grillcloth on the original baffle and the cloth has aged to look appropriate for the stock tolex. The leather handle is a modern replacement, as is the lower back panel, while the top back panel is original. The faceplate is notably clean and retains all of the original brown barrel knobs. This Vibrolux is a rare, thoroughly serviced, and largely original vintage Pre-CBS Fender amp that’s ready for stage and studio use.
