Vintage Tube Amp

All the tubes are included…. 1 12AX7 1 12AU7 (I substituted a 5814). The speaker case and grill cover are in really nice condition. The tolex has no rips or tears and only has very minor age related wear. The handles are also in great shape and work perfectly. The case unlatches and detaches from each other and work as they should and are in very good condition. The Amplifier features an On/Off Toggle Power Switch, a single 6BQ5, a 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes, A Volume and Tone control, a fuse holder, 1/4″ input plug for guitar and a 1/4″ speaker output plug that the speaker plugs into. All of the knobs work and turn freely as they should and the power light comes on. The fuse is still good too but the tubes do not light up and it does not produce any sound. So this amp is a great candidate for a rebuild and need some tubes or work to bring it back to its full potential. The chassis is in good cosmetic condition for its age (please see photos). It measures approximately 13 3/4″ x 9 1/4″ x 9 1/4 including the handle and weighs about 18 lbs. For parts or restoration. I bring tube amplifiers up to power slowly on a variac with a full load to avoid damage and properly reform the capacitors and although I test them to the best of my ability, I’m not an expert by any means! I may not be able to test all functions, some may have been repaired or worked on by others and some functions may or may not work as there may be damaged components that we are unable to determine that need additional repairs. Some items may just be plugged in and powered on without further testing so don’t assume the item works because it powers on. When purchasing 50+ year old items you should expect that some work may need done to bring them back up to their full potential… Our items decades ago. These beautiful Altec 872a “Madrid” are from about 1974. Part of the 870 series from the era. The original Spanish style. Lattice grills were broken so custom grills have been added. Guilford of Maine “Crosstown” Fabric. Grill cloth, acoustically transparent. The original dust screens are still intact behind the new grills. The cloth color is “graphite”, the grill frames were made from new 1/4 birch plywood. The grills are removable (8 stapled on velcro squares each) however service is performed out the rear of the cabinet. The Original Altec badges were retained and used on the new grills. The cabinets have been hand oiled and rubbed out several times then hand waxed for durability and protection of the wood. One cabinet has a few scars, “character” as they say, on the top, please see photos. The bases have some edge wear. One corner on the bottom back of one has had a small repair and a replaced foot. From any angle these just look amazing. Dean Martin would have loved these. The original 420Y Biflex woofers and the crossbar mounted tweeters are all working beautifully. All of the insulation is original and complete and intact. The backs of the cabinets are as nice as the front, the terminals are in perfect condition. Original factory stickers still in place with each speakers serial number, only two digits apart, these are a true pair. The speakers have only been auditioned by ear, no electronic testing has been performed. These have that true classic Altec vintage sound and I think they have just a great look. These probably weigh in at over 50 lbs each, 21 wide x 24 tall x 17 deep… They aren’t perfect but they are very nice and hard to come by. Receiver, Turntable and other items in the photos are not included. I don’t mess around. Sale is final once they leave my property.
