Up for sale is this vintage Gretsch 6159 tube amp. The amp was made in 1965 by Valco. It is all original with 2 Jensen 12 speakers (both dating to 1965) and it still has the 2 prong power cable. Don’t let the “bass amp” logo fool you. These amps were made with the intention of them being used for bass, guitar, and/or accordion. I have been using the amp for guitar and it sounds amazing! It currently has Groove tube power tubes and all of the other tubes are RCA. It has an incredible tremolo that I would compare to that of a Magnatone. I prefer this tremolo over any other new or vintage Fender amp I’ve tried. The tremolo is very smooth with nice depth to it. Overall, the amp is in very good condition, especially considering it is over 50 years old. There are some marks in the tolex, a few stains and small snags in the grill cloth, and some oxidation on the chrome parts. It is rare to find one of these in all original condition and in this good of shape. Most of the examples I’ve come across have 1 or both grill cloth badges broken and have undergone modifications. The Bronson “Singing Electric” was one of the many companies Valco made amps for. It shares the all octal tube Valco Supreme 12 watt class AB push pull ciruit with a 10 inch alnico magnet Ted Weber signature speaker. The finger jointed baltic birch cabinet is covered in 2 tone beaded tolex. This amp has that amazingly thick & saturating Valco sound and touch sensitivity our amps are famous for. Up for sale, a 1951 Oahu Chicago Model 51, recently serviced and ready for stage and studio use. This early Oahu amp was manufactured in Chicago by the parent company, Valco, who made amps under the National, Supro, and Gretsch brands, among others. Powered by a pair of 6V6 tubes and voiced through a modern Jensen 10″ alnico speaker, there’s a midrange richness and detail to the breakup of these amps that is signature “Valco tone. The bloom, light compression, and creamy nature of the sound reacts well with a variety of guitar pickups and makes this amp a perfect secret weapon for studio sessions, and it really shines with a microphone in front of it. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, with new Mallory caps in the preamp where necessary, Sprague Atom filter caps, and a new three-prong power cable. The original Stackpole pots are intact, along with the original transformers. Mounted to the back panel, an external speaker jack has been installed, with an on/off switch to engage or disengage the internal speaker as needed. In addition to the new Jensen speaker, the original Rola speaker is also included. The amp retains the majority of the original white covering, with the exception of the bottom and left side of the enclosure. The black segmented grillcloth is intact and the metal “Oahu” badge is present, along with the original molded handle. Produced in the same Valco factory as the Thunderbolt and marketed by Harmony to pair with their guitar line, the H420 is extremely similar in terms of circuit and layout to its more famous Supro cousin, with the added benefit of individual Treble and Bass controls. Rich, powerful, and nuanced, the H420 pushes 35 watts through a pair of original RCA 6L6GC power tubes and the original Jensen C15N speaker. For everything from clean, wooly rhythm tones to saturated tube overdrive further up on the volume dial, this Harmony delivers a pure sound with a simple yet ingenious circuit. The circuit is completely stock, with CTS pots that date to 1965 and original impressively sized transformers as well. The faceplate retains its original shiny chrome appearance, with all of the original black silkscreen graphics and lettering, as well as a minty trio of stock witch hat knobs. The Jensen C15N speaker has a near mint black speaker frame, gold foil label on the ceramic magnet, and date code from’65. Built by Valco for montgomery ward. I believe a 1971. There is alot of humm buzz coming from the amp. Where the middle light is the plastic is broke. It powers on and you can play a instrument through it. Its not 100% playable condition and needs shopped. It seems like the reverb had some troubles. I replaced two 12ax7 tubes with new JJ’s as the old ones where micro-phonic. It may have more bad tubes. The reverb circuit seemed to make a bunch of unwanted noise. YOU WILL HAVE TO PICK IT UP AT THE NEAREST BUS STATION TO YOU. Most bus station or within 25 miles of somebody’s house. Most people don’t mind picking up there items as its normally not that far. Check out this beautifully preserved old Supro! The power-cord is hilariously under-built, which perfectly demonstrates this items original 60′s mystique. The amp works beautifully and the tremolo knob together with the dual glass vacuum tubes produce a classic analog sound that is hard to find today. Unfortunately two plastic knob covers are missing, but this is a simple fix to the right enthusiast. As you can see from the pictures, there is very little damage to the wood and cloth covering the wood. The front speaker mesh is also very weather-free. Please make an offer!
